Aims: To investigate possible associations of glucose patterns with outcomes of Corona Virus Disease 19 (COVID-19) using continuous glucose monitoring (CGM) in 43 patients hospitalized for COVID-19 mild-to-moderate pneumonia, regardless of diabetes.
Methods: Prospective observational study conducted during two pandemic waves in 2020-2021. Glucose sensor metrics of 7-day recording were obtained from blinded CGM.

Objectives: Advanced therapy medicinal products (ATMPs) are medicines based on genes, tissues, or cells and can include gene therapy, somatic-cell therapy, and tissue-engineered medicines. Patient-reported outcomes (PROs) are reports on health and well-being that come directly from the individual without external interpretation. Patient-reported outcome measures (PROMs) are questionnaires aimed at assessing the individual and subjective experience with health and other psychosocial aspects.

Electrophysiology offers a high-resolution method for real-time measurement of neural activity. Longitudinal recordings from high-density microelectrode arrays (HD-MEAs) can be of considerable size for local storage and of substantial complexity for extracting neural features and network dynamics. Analysis is often demanding due to the need for multiple software tools with different runtime dependencies.

Sodium-glucose cotransporter-2 inhibitors (SGLT2i) and glucagon-Like peptide-1 receptor agonists (GLP-1 RA) are recommended in people with type 2 diabetes (T2D) for glycaemic control and for people with high cardiovascular risk. However, current guidelines do not specifically address the role of initial early combination therapy with SGLT2i and GLP-1 RA or dual gastric inhibitory polypeptide (GIP)/GLP-1 RA, but rather sequential initiation with either in T2D. This review synthesizes the available evidence on the use of SGLT2i and GLP-1-based therapies for T2D and provides a rationale for their combination.

High temperature can significantly affect the quality and yield of plants. However, there has been limited research investigating the thermotolerance of non-heading Chinese cabbage (NHCC). This study, identified BcWRKY23 through transcriptome analysis in NHCC with varying levels of thermotolerance.

Objectives: The SDMPH 10-year anniversary conference created an opportunity for a researcher to present at a professional association conference to advance their research by seeking consensus of statements using Delphi methodology.
Methods: Conference attendees and SDMPH members who did not attend the conference were identified as Delphi experts. Experts rated their agreement of each statement on a 7- point linear numeric scale.

Conventional cancer chemotherapy often struggles with safely and effectively delivering anticancer therapeutics to target tissues, frequently leading to dose-limiting toxicity and suboptimal therapeutic outcomes. This has created a need for novel therapies that offer greater efficacy, enhanced safety, and improved toxicological profiles. Nanocarriers are nanosized particles specifically designed to enhance the selectivity and effectiveness of chemotherapy drugs while reducing their toxicity.

Objectives: This study aimed to analyze the usage patterns and hypersensitivity reaction (HSR) profiles of six nonionic iodinated contrast media (ICMs) used in computed tomography (CT) to enhance patient safety and inform evidence-based contrast agent selection.
Methods: We retrospectively reviewed 248,209 CT scans obtained between January 2020 and December 2022. Six ICMs (iomeprol, iohexol, ioversol, iopromide, iodixanol, and iobitridol) were compared on the basis of their usage rates, HSR incidence, and severity.

Objective: To ascertain how an instrumental variables (IV) model can improve upon the estimates obtained from traditional cost-of-illness (COI) models that treat health conditions as predetermined.
Study Setting And Design: A simulation study based on observational data compares the coefficients and average marginal effects from an IV model to a traditional COI model when an unobservable confounder is introduced. The two approaches are then applied to real data, using a kinship-weighted family history as an instrument, and differences are interpreted within the context of the findings from the simulation study.

Veterans use cannabis as a chronic pain treatment due to a combination of the easing of restrictions and dissatisfaction with care standards. The segregation of medical cannabis from conventional health systems may translate to opportunities and disadvantages that are not well defined. Our study aimed to characterize how Veterans with chronic pain approach using cannabis for symptom management, including product access, developing a treatment plan, and its integration into daily life.

Cell division cycle 37 (CDC37) is a member of the molecular chaperone family and acts as a cochaperone of heat shock protein 90 (HSP90), which is overexpressed in many cancer types as a regulator of protein kinase maturation. In this process, CDC37 selectively recognizes and stabilizes protein kinases by forming a HSP90-CDC37-kinase chaperone complex. The protein-protein interactions (PPIs) of HSP90-CDC37 and CDC37-kinase complexes contribute to malignant tumors, as oncogenic kinases in malignant cells depend upon CDC37 expression.

Background/aims: Fecal occult blood test (FOBT) and fecal immunohistochemical test (FIT) are used for colorectal cancer (CRC) screening. However, when no adenomas are found following a positive FOBT/FIT, the future risk of advanced adenomas or colorectal cancer (CRC) is unclear. We determined the incidence and determinants of advanced adenomas or CRC after a negative index colonoscopy following a positive FOBT/FIT.

Background: The impact of novel photon-counting detector (PCD)-CT technology on in-vivo radiomics is not fully understood. This study aimed to compare the intra-individual stability and reproducibility of pericoronary adipose tissue (PCAT) radiomic features between PCD-CT and energy-integrating detector (EID)-CT in patients undergoing coronary CT angiography (CCTA) on both systems.
Methods: Patients undergoing clinically indicated CCTA on an EID-CT were prospectively enrolled for research PCD-CCTA within 30 days.

Background: The Veterans Health Administration (VA) recommends lung cancer screening (LCS), including shared decision making between clinicians and veteran patients. We sought to characterize 1) veteran conceptualization of lung cancer risk and 2) veteran and clinician accounts of shared decision-making discussions about LCS to assess whether they reflect veteran concerns.
Methods: We conducted qualitative interviews at 6 VA sites, with 48 clinicians and 34 veterans offered LCS in the previous 6 mo.

Objective: To evaluate whether race- and sex-based biases are present in a predictive model of avoidable hospital (AH) events.
Study Setting And Design: We examined whether Medicare fee-for-service (FFS) beneficiaries in Maryland with similar risk scores differed in true AH event risk on the basis of race or sex (n = 324,834). This was operationalized as a logistic regression of true AH events on race or sex with fixed effects for risk score percentile.

Active acromegaly may lead to irreversible complications. Among them, acromegaly osteopathy and fragility (vertebral and hip) fractures have emerged as frequent and precocious events in the natural history of the disease, being correlated with longer disease duration and higher growth hormone (GH) levels, accounting for patients' reported poor quality of life, physical performance and other life-impacting complications. Differently from primary osteoporosis, bone mineral density is not a reliable tool to predict fracture risk in this clinical setting, as patients with active disease frequently have normal or slightly reduced bone mass; whereas bone quality is particularly compromised, as determined by low trabecular bone score (TBS) in patients with active disease as compared to healthy controls or patients with cured/controlled disease.
