A cervical rib is the cause of ∼5% of thoracic outlet syndromes (TOS). We report the case of a patient with arterial TOS due to the presence of a cervical rib, managed by combined thoracoscopic and supraclavicular approach. An 18-year-old female patient presented with symptoms of arterial TOS.

Background: The rising prevalence of acute ischemic stroke (AIS) in young adults, particularly with undetermined pathogenesis, is a growing concern. This study assessed risk factors, treatments, and outcomes between young AIS patients with undetermined and determined pathogeneses.
Methods And Results: This was a retrospective cohort study including AIS patients aged 18 to 55 years in Switzerland, treated between 2014 and 2022.

Aims: Highly cross-linked polyethylene (HXLPE) greatly reduces wear in total hip arthroplasty, compared to conventional polyethylene (CPE). Cross-linking is commonly achieved by irradiation. This study aimed to compare the degree of cross-linking and in vitro wear rates across a cohort of retrieved and unused polyethylene cups/liners from various brands.

Purpose: Approximately 7% of patients with rectal cancer experience local recurrence within 5 years of curative surgery. A positive circumferential resection margin (CRM) is among the most significant risk factors. Other reported risk factors include histopathologic type, anastomotic leakage, positive distal margins, and more recently, the anterior localization of the tumor.

The use of metal-on-metal bearing couples in total hip arthroplasty can lead to an increased release of metal ions, particularly cobalt and chromium over time. This can lead to local and systemic metallosis, which has cytotoxic, genotoxic, and immunotoxic effects and can cause a host of secondary disorders. We describe the case of a 37-year-old female patient that was diagnosed with warm-antibody autoimmune hemolytic anemia (WAIHA) one and a half years after bilateral large-diameter head metal-on-metal total hip arthroplasty.

Introduction: Hip microinstability has become a recognized cause of non-arthritic hip pain and disability in young patients. However, its pathophysiology remains unclear. We want to (1) present an overview of the evidence of hip microinstability and of its association with femoroacetabular impingement (FAI), (2) map out the type of evidence available, and (3) make recommendations for future research.

Background: Managing wounds of the lateral malleolus is challenging owing to limited nearby tissues and possibly injured or inadequate vessels for free flaps, especially in case of underlying infections. Moreover, free flaps require specialized skills and are not suitable for every patient. Therefore, identifying reliable local alternatives is crucial.

Despite the good clinical results in the treatment of Kienböck disease with distal radius core decompression, a radiological progression to a certain degree in the long-term follow-up is possible. Is there a negative correlation between the clinical improvement of the patients and the radiological progression? We retrospectively reviewed the radiological and clinical results of 24 patients (mean age: 38 years; 10 women) treated with core decompression for Kienböck disease. The mean follow-up was 10 years.

We present a case with bilateral hematogenous hip periprosthetic joint infection with Enterococci which could be treated successfully with implant retention despite chronification and partial loosening. A debridement and replacement of the modular components was carried out with replacement of a loose acetabular cup on the right side. Considering poor local infection control, antibiotic treatment was enhanced by local application of vancomycin.

Introduction: In situ pinning is an accepted treatment for stable slipped capital femoral epiphysis. However, residual deformity of severe slipped capital femoral epiphysis can cause femoroacetabular impingement and forced external rotation.
Purpose/questions: The aim of this study was to evaluate the (1) hip external rotation and internal rotation in flexion, (2) hip impingement location, and (3) impingement frequency in early flexion in severe slipped capital femoral epiphysis patients after in situ pinning using three-dimensional computed tomography.

We investigated the healing effect of a new dehydrated amnion/chorion membrane with a spongy layer over a 30-month period in 32 patients with 53 chronic non-healing wounds of different aetiologies. Wounds with <40% surface reduction after 4 weeks of best wound treatment underwent weekly allograft application by a certified wound specialist based on national guidelines and a standardised protocol until complete healing or definite treatment interruption. The main outcome measure was the percentage of wound surface reduction from baseline calculated using digital planimetry follow-up photographs.

Spontaneous and isolated dissection of the left gastric artery is a rare occurrence, with only a handful of cases reported in the medical literature. Clinical presentation may mimic more common intra-abdominal pathologies; however, it is imperative to identify this condition promptly due to its potential serious consequences. This underscores the importance of maintaining a high level of clinical suspicion and including this pathology in the differential diagnosis of patients presenting with acute abdominal symptoms.

Purpose: The modified Kapandji technique has been proposed for fracture reduction in pediatric displaced distal radius fractures (DDRFs), but evidence is sparse. The purpose of this study was to evaluate our outcomes and complications, critically and systematically, when performing the modified Kapandji technique in pediatric DDRFs. Using this technique since 2011, we asked: (1) What is the quality of fracture reduction using this technique? (2) How stable is fracture alignment with this technique? (3) What are the postoperative complications and complication rates?
Methods: Retrospective observational study of 195 pediatric patients treated with the modified Kapandji technique.

Antibody-drug conjugates (ADCs) represent a novel and evolving class of antineoplastic agents, constituted by monoclonal antibody linked to biologically active drugs, delivering cytotoxic compounds at the tumor site, reducing the likelihood of systemic exposure and toxicity. They are generally well tolerated, nevertheless some predictable adverse reactions need careful monitoring and timely approach. These include neutropenia, nausea and vomiting, alopecia, diarrhea, left ventricular dysfunction, ILD/pneumonitis.

Background: Acute hepatitis E virus (HEV) infection has recently emerged as a potential trigger for acute dysimmune neuropathies, but prospective controlled studies are lacking.
Aims: To compare the frequency of concomitant acute HEV infection in patients with neuralgic amyotrophy (NA), Guillain-Barré syndrome (GBS), and Bell's palsy with a matched control population.
Methods: Swiss multicenter, prospective, observational, matched case-control study over 3 years (September 2019-October 2022).

Introduction And Importance: Primary and metastatic carcinoma of the small intestine are rare. While most of these malignancies are adenocarcinomas, squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) of the gastrointestinal tract is uncommon. We present a case report of a rare occurrence of skin SCC metastasizing to the ileum, highlighting diagnostic challenges and clinical implications.

In patients with atherosclerotic disease in two of the three main vessels in the splanchnic circulation, symptoms of chronic mesenteric ischemia may arise, depending on the disease chronicity and the presence of mesenteric collateral pathways. The most commonly described collateral pathways are between the celiac artery (CA), superior mesenteric artery (SMA), and inferior mesenteric artery (IMA); and between the IMA and the internal iliac artery (IIA). Another collateral network between the deep femoral artery and the IIA can also become important, especially in patients with aorto-iliac occlusion.
