In this study, we present a novel approach to injection molding, focusing on the strength of weld lines in polyamide 6 (PA6) composite samples. By implementing a mold temperature significantly higher than the typical molding practice, which rarely exceeds 100°C, we assess the effects of advanced mold temperature management. The research introduces a newly engineered mold structure specifically designed for localized mold heating, distinguishing it as the 'novel cavity.

This study applied an electro-Fenton process using chemically modified activated carbon derived from rubber seed shells loaded with α-FeOOH (RSCF) as catalyst to remove tetracycline residues from aquatic environment. Catalyst characteristics were evaluated using SEM, EDS, XRD, and XPS, showing successful insertion of iron onto the activated carbon. The effects of the parameters were investigated, and the highest treatment efficiency was achieved at pH of 3, Fe: HO ratio (w/w) of 500:1, catalyst dose of 1 g/L, initial TCH concentration of 100 mg/L, and electric current of 150 mA, with more than 90% of TCH being eliminated within 30 min.

This report aims to examine the effects of impact velocity, impact depth, and impact orientation on the Cu-Ta weld joint of the explosive welding process via MD simulation. The findings indicate that the residual shear stress in the welded block mostly increases as the impact velocity rises. The bottom Ta block is more severely distorted than the higher Cu block due to the impact direction.

Article Synopsis
  • - The study developed non-toxic quantum dots (QDs) using a starch paste stabilizer, revealing improved compatibility with antibodies due to the -CH-OH group in the starch.
  • - Different concentrations of manganese-doped ZnS in the QDs were tested, finding that a 3% Mn ratio yielded the best luminescence and quantum yield, enhancing fluorescence intensity compared to other formulations.
  • - The incorporation of protein A and EDC bridging technology demonstrated that the ZnSe/ZnS:3%Mn/ZnS-starch QDs exhibited strong signals and sensitivity, while being non-toxic to harmful bacteria like E. coli and MRSA.

EGFR tyrosine kinase inhibitors (TKIs) are the first-line treatment for advanced EGFR-mutated non-small-cell lung cancer (NSCLC). However, NSCLC patients with wild-type EGFR and KRAS mutation are ineligible for EGFR-TKIs. Therefore, the discovery of new therapeutic agents is urgently needed for NSCLC patients who cannot receive targeted therapies.

The maximum power point tracking (MPPT) solutions improve power generation efficiency, quickly stabilizing the output waveform of photovoltaic (PV) systems under variable operating conditions. Along with new algorithms, improved and adjusted methods to exploit energy from PV systems are increasingly being researched and proposed. However, the proposed solutions based on the traditional algorithms and their improvements have poor performance, while the advanced algorithms or hybrid methods bring high performance but need to be simplified, and the response speed is higher.

Rethinking Feature Generalization in Vacant Space Detection.

Sensors (Basel)

May 2023

Faculty of Electrical and Electronics Engineering, HCMC University of Technology and Education, Ho Chi Minh City 7000, Vietnam.

Vacant space detection is critical in modern parking lots. However, deploying a detection model as a service is not an easy task. As the camera in a new parking is set up at different heights or viewing angles from the original parking lot where the training data are collected, the performance of the vacant space detector could be degraded.

Impact of an Underlying 2DEG on the Performance of a p-Channel MOSFET in GaN.

ACS Appl Electron Mater

June 2023

Department of Electronic and Electrical Engineering, University of Sheffield-Mappin Street, S1 3JD Sheffield, U.K.

The influence of an underlying 2-dimensional electron gas (2DEG) on the performance of a normally off p-type metal oxide semiconductor field effect transistor (MOSFET) based on GaN/AlGaN/GaN double heterojunction is analyzed via simulations. By reducing the concentration of the 2DEG, a greater potential can be dropped across the GaN channel, resulting in enhanced electrostatic control. Therefore, to minimize the deleterious impact on the on-state performance, a composite graded back-to-back AlGaN barrier that enables a trade-off between n-channel devices and Enhancement-mode (E-mode) p-channel is investigated.

Article Synopsis
  • Injection molding is a popular process for producing plastic parts, involving five main steps: mold closure, filling, packing, cooling, and product ejection.
  • A method to control mold temperature effectively is through a cooling channel that uses hot and cool water, which is simple and cost-effective.
  • This study compares traditional cooling channels to a conformal cooling-channel design, revealing that the conformal method achieves better heating, with higher average temperatures and improved efficiency according to simulation results verified by experiments.

The fatigue performance of polypropylene (PP) at various amplitudes and frequencies on fatigue cycles under tensile test conditions is investigated in this study. The results show that increasing the frequency leads to a decrease in fatigue cycles due to increased cycle time. The decline rate can be divided into two stages, between 1 and 5 Hz.

Using gold nanoparticles (GNPs) in high-standard applications requires GNPs to be fabricated with high-quality size and surface properties. Plasma-liquid interactions (PLIs) have the unique ability to synthesize GNPs without using any reducing agents, and the GNP surface is free of stabilizing agents. It is an extreme advantage that ensures success for the subsequent functionalization processes for GNPs.

In micro-injection molding, the plastic filling in the cavity is limited by the frozen layer due to the rapid cooling of the hot melt when it comes into contact with the surface of the cavity at a lower temperature. This problem is more serious with composite materials, which have a higher viscosity than pure materials. Moreover, this issue is also more serious with composite materials that have a higher weight percentage of glass filer.
