Background: The relationship between the extent and severity of stress-induced ischemia and the extent and severity of anatomic coronary artery disease (CAD) in patients with obstructive CAD is multifactorial and includes the intensity of stress achieved, type of testing used, presence and extent of prior infarction, collateral blood flow, plaque characteristics, microvascular disease, coronary vasomotor tone, and genetic factors. Among chronic coronary disease participants with site-determined moderate or severe ischemia, we investigated associations between ischemia severity on stress testing and the extent of CAD on coronary computed tomography angiography.
Methods: Clinically indicated stress testing included nuclear imaging, echocardiography, cardiac magnetic resonance imaging, or nonimaging exercise tolerance test.

Background: Diabetic retinopathy (DR), a leading cause of vision loss worldwide, is a common complication of type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) driven by chronic hyperglycemia and microvascular damage. Fibroblast growth factor 21 (FGF21) is crucial in blood sugar regulation and has been linked to DR incidence and severity. While some studies suggest that FGF21 levels may contribute to the DR incidence, others propose a protective role.

Acoustic indices allow time efficient analysis of large acoustic datasets obtained from passive acoustic monitoring, but results regarding their effectiveness in assessing biodiversity are inconsistent. We evaluated the efficacy of six acoustic indices (ACI, ADI, AEI, H, BI, NDSI) for studying bird and structural diversity in 51 cocoa plantations, 24 of which were certified by Rainforest Alliance, in Luwu Timur, Sulawesi, Indonesia. We used linear models to assess the correlation of index values with bird species richness, and linear mixed models to test the influence of canopy closure, shade tree basal area, distance to primary forest and tree cover in a 200-m buffer on index values.

Toxoplasma gondii, an obligate intracellular parasite, control its host cell cycle through mechanisms that are not fully understood. Key effector molecules, including MYR1 and HCE1, play roles in translocating parasite proteins and inducing host cellular cyclin E1 overexpression, respectively. We investigated the early role of MYR1- and HCE1-driven host cell cycle arrest and DNA damage (up to 3 h p.

The interaction between cancer cells and immune cells in the tumor microenvironment (TME) plays a crucial role in determining tumor growth, metastasis, and response to treatment. Tumor-infiltrating lymphocytes (TILs) in TME could be a predictive marker for treatment response in various therapeutic interventions, including chemotherapy and immunotherapy. Thus, imaging the tumor immune microenvironment is important for selecting the optimal treatment strategies in cancer therapy.

Purpose: With the growing interest in exploring radiolanthanides for nuclear medicine applications, the question arises as to whether they are generally interchangeable without affecting a biomolecule's pharmacokinetic properties. The goal of this study was to investigate similarities and differences of four (radio)lanthanides simultaneously applied as complexes of biomolecules or in ionic form.
Methods: Inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (ICP-MS) was employed for the simultaneous detection of four lanthanides (Ln = lutetium, terbium, gadolinium and europium) in biological samples.

Medical research within areas of deep learning, particularly in computer vision for medical imaging, has shown promise over the past decade with an increasing volume of technical papers published in orthopaedics related to imaging artificial intelligence (AI). However, as more tools and models are developed and deployed, it is easy for clinicians to get overwhelmed with the different types of models, leaving "artificial intelligence" as an empty buzzword where true value can be unclear. As with surgery, the techniques of deep learning require thoughtful application and cannot follow a one-size-fits-all approach as different problems require differential levels of technical complexity with model application.

Research Question: Does the shortened warming protocol impact the cell viability and outgrowth competence of human vitrified blastocysts warmed with or without fatty acids?
Design: In this study, 326 discarded vitrified human blastocysts donated for research by consenting couples were used. The blastocysts were randomly allocated to five groups depending on the warming solutions, protocols and recovery culture media: the control-conventional, control-shortened, FA-conventional, FA-shortened, and FA-shortened/recovery culture with fatty acid (FA-shortened/RF) groups. The blastocysts were warmed with or without fatty acids following the manufacturer's instruction (conventional method) or using the shortened method, in which blastocysts were immersed in a thawing solution for 1 min and then cultured in the recovery medium for 2 h.

Background: Acute exacerbations of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) in the emergency department (ED) involve dyspnea, cough, and chest discomfort; frequent exacerbations are associated with increased mortality and reduced quality of life. Noninvasive positive pressure ventilation (NiPPV) is commonly used to help relieve symptoms but is limited due to patient intolerance. We aimed to determine whether high-velocity nasal insufflation (HVNI) is noninferior to NiPPV in relieving dyspnea within 4 h in ED patients with acute hypercapnic respiratory failure.
