Fibronectin serves as a platform to guide and facilitate deposition of collagen and fibrillin microfibrils. During development of fibrotic diseases, altered fibronectin deposition in the extracellular matrix (ECM) is generally an early event. After this, dysregulated organization of fibrillins and fibrillar collagens occurs.

The hepatic content of amyloid beta (Aβ) decreases drastically in human and rodent cirrhosis highlighting the importance of understanding the consequences of Aβ deficiency in the liver. This is especially relevant in view of recent advances in anti-Aβ therapies for Alzheimer's disease (AD). Here, it is shown that partial hepatic loss of Aβ in transgenic AD mice immunized with Aβ antibody 3D6 and its absence in amyloid precursor protein (APP) knockout mice (APP-KO), as well as in human liver spheroids with APP knockdown upregulates classical hallmarks of fibrosis, smooth muscle alpha-actin, and collagen type I.

Fibril formation by amyloidogenic proteins and peptides is considered the cause of a number of incurable diseases. One of the most known amyloid diseases is Alzheimer's disease (AD). Traditionally, amyloidogenic beta peptides Aβ40 and Aβ42 (Aβs) are considered as main causes of AD and the foremost targets in AD fight.

The presence of citrullinated adenosine deaminase (ADA) was reported in the synovial fluids of rheumatoid arthritis individuals. This work reports the effects of ADA citrullination on the formation/stabilization of ADA complex with dipeptidyl peptidase IV (DPPIV). The electrophoretic mobility of in vivo citrullinated ADA was diminished compared to the native one.

The level of adenosine deaminase (ADA) activity increases in pathological effusions. Therefore, the concentration of its substrate, anti-inflammatory adenosine, decreases, thereby aggravating inflammation. Hence, the quest for ADA inhibiting compounds is an actual problem in medicine and pharmacology.

Angiotensin receptor blockers (ARBs) have demonstrated multiple neuroprotective benefits in Alzheimer's disease (AD) models. However, their beneficial effects on memory deficits, cholinergic activity, neurogenesis and Amyloid beta (Aβ) clearance reveal significant interstudy variability. The delivery route can impact not only delivery but also targeting and therapeutic efficacy of ARBs.

The function and regulation of amyloid-beta (Aβ) in healthy and diseased liver remains unexplored. Because Aβ reduces the integrity of the blood-brain barrier we have examined its potential role in regulating the sinusoidal permeability of normal and cirrhotic liver. Aβ and key proteins that generate (beta-secretase 1 and presenilin-1) and degrade it (neprilysin and myelin basic protein) were decreased in human cirrhotic liver.

Background: Stevia rebaudiana Bertoni has various pharmacological actions, which includes antidiabetic, antioxidant, anti-inflammatory activities. The superoxide and consequently NADPH oxidase (Nox) are relevant targets involved in biological effects of Stevia. The presence of NADPH-containing superoxide-producing lipoprotein (suprol) in Stevia leaves has not yet been tested.

Background: Excess dietary fructose intake associated with metabolic syndrome and insulin resistance and increased risk of developing type 2 diabetes. Previous animal studies have reported that diabetic animals have significantly impaired behavioural and cognitive functions, pathological synaptic function and impaired expression of glutamate receptors. Correction of the antioxidant status of laboratory rodents largely prevents the development of fructose-induced plurimetabolic changes in the nervous system.

Background: Pyridoxine (Pr, B6) or its active form pyridoxal phosphate (PLP, B6) deficiency promotes oxidative lipid peroxidation and exacerbates the oxidative stress. From the other hand, by our previous experiments we proved that B6 is able strongly inhibit Xanthine Oxidase (XO) activity, which is an enzyme responsible for the formation of uric acid and hydrogen peroxide.

The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of the external electrostatic field (ESF) on some hematological parameters in rats. Both in vivo and in vitro experiments were carried out. In in vivo investigations, rats were exposed to ESF (200 kV/m) during short (1 h) and long periods (6 days, 6 h daily).

Objectives: The aim of the work was the development of a simple method for measuring the plasma prothrombin carbonylation and the study the impact of prothrombin and fibrinogen oxidation on the rate of plasma clotting.
Methods: A new method was based on the ability of prothrombin to be adsorbed by the barium sulfate. It consists of four steps: prothrombin mixing with the water suspension of BaSO; reaction of 2,4-dinitrophenylhydrazine with the BaSO-bound prothrombin; desorption of prothrombin-2,4-dinitrophenylhydrazone complex from BaSO in an alkaline medium; neutralization and reading of the optical absorbance of the complex (λ = 370 nm).

A single intraperitoneal injection of a gram-positive pathogen Clostridium perfringens (Cp) causes a remarkable down-regulation the constitutive nitric oxide synthase (cNOS) with a simultaneous increase in the activity of inducible NOS (iNOS) and the level of reactive nitrogen species in the rat brain major regions (cortex, striatum, hippocampus and hypothalamus) at 48 h post-administration of Cp. Treatment by both a semiconductor laser (SCL) and/or a light-emitting diode (LED) with same wavelength, energy density and time exposure (continuous wave, λ=654 nm, fluence=1.27 J/cm(2), time exposure=600 s) could modulate brain nitrergic response following Cp-infection.

The present research summarizes the protective and immunomodulatory activity of hypothalamic proline-rich polypeptide galarmin against methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA). The protective effect of galarmin was shown on MRSA-infected animals' survival and weight loss recovery. The immunological impact of galarmin was evaluated in terms of immunocompetent cell recruitment, serum immunoglobulins, complement components C3 and C4, and pro- and anti-inflammatory cytokines (IL-6, IL-8, IL-10, IL-1b, TNFa, and KC) secretion.

The intraperitoneal (ip) endotoxin (lipopolysaccaride, LPS) (0.5 mg/kg) administration in combination with hemorphin (1 mg/kg) induce significant decrease in plasma corticosterone and modest decrease in plasma levels of tumor necrosis factor-alpha (TNFalpha) in compare with elevated levels of both corticosterone and TNFalpha in plasma of rats received LPS administration alone.

New cardioactive protein-hormone complexes (PHC) are identified in magnocellular nuclei of hypothalamus. It was proved that they are specific for nervous tissues and are involved in the regulation of metabolic processes of brain and visceral organs, including the heart. PHC dissociate into high-molecular forms which are new specific glycoproteins and the low-molecular cardioactive neurohormones.

Daily intraperitoneal injection of cyclophosphamide (CPA) (50 mgkg(-1) of body weight) for 5 days resulted in reduced levels of marrow and blood cellularity, which was most pronounced in 18 days post-treatment (pt). On day 18 after CPA treatment the enhancedlevels of nitric oxide (NO) precursors and metabolites (L-arginine, L-citrulline, reactive nitrogen species (RNS)) of marrow and blood cells (platelet, neutrophil, lymphocyte and monocyte) resulted from up-regulation of Ca(II)/calmodulin(CaM)-independent "inducible" NO synthase (iNOS), with a lessercontribution of Ca(II)/CaM-dependent "constitutive" cNOS isoforms to systemic NO.Biphasic response to CPA of marrow nitrergic system, i.
