External lumbar drainage for the management of refractory intracranial hypertension in pediatric severe traumatic brain injury: a retrospective single-center case series.

Objective: Guidelines for the management of pediatric severe traumatic brain injury (TBI) recommend external ventricular drainage for CSF drainage as a first-tier treatment in the intracranial pressure (ICP) pathway. However, ventriculostomy in children can sometimes be challenging because of the small size of the lateral ventricles. External lumbar drainage (ELD) may be a useful alternative; therefore, the authors analyzed the outcome of a cohort of pediatric patients who underwent ELD to manage intracranial hypertension (ICH).

Effect of Bee Venom on Glioblastoma Cancer: In Vitro and In Vivo Studies.

Background: Brain injury is one of the most serious complications after cardiac arrest (CA). To prevent this phenomenon, rapid cooling with total liquid ventilation (TLV) has been proposed in small animal models of CA (rabbits and piglets). Investigation of fingolimod-induced lymphocyte sequestration on inflammatory response and neurological damages after cardiac arrest.

Background: A sepsis-like syndrome is known to occur after cardiac arrest, leading to cerebral infiltration by white blood cells (WBC). We hypothesized that pharmacological sequestration of WBC, and more specifically lymphocytes within lymphoid tissues, could reduce the cerebral infiltration by these inflammatory cells and subsequent acute brain injury in a porcine model of cardiac arrest. Lymphocyte sequestration was induced by the sphingosine-1 phosphate receptors agonist fingolimod.

Behavioral training and mirroring techniques to prepare for elective anesthesia in children with autism spectrum disorder: a prospective evaluation of implemented program.

Background: Children with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) often require multiple interventions receiving general anesthesia during their lifetimes. However, a single negative experience may trigger and/or aggravate anxiety and subsequent development of unwanted behavior. This monocentric study assessed the compliance with mask induction of children with ASD who followed a preoperative preparation using behavioral training with positive reinforcement technique and use of mirroring technique.

Infection in Patients With Anti-Granulocyte-Macrophage Colony-Stimulating Factor Autoantibodies: A Prospective Multicenter French Study.

Background: Nocardiosis, a bacterial opportunistic infection caused by spp, has recently been reported in patients with anti-granulocyte-macrophage colony-stimulating factor (GM-CSF) autoantibodies, but insufficient data are available about disease presentation, outcomes, and occurrence of autoimmune pulmonary alveolar proteinosis (aPAP) in this population.

Methods: We performed a prospective, multicenter, nationwide study in France and included patients with a infection who had anti-GM-CSF autoantibodies. We describe their clinical, microbiological, and radiological characteristics, and their outcome at 1 year of follow-up.

Expanding safety boundaries in pediatric robotic-assisted laparoscopic surgery: are we protecting our children?

Little is known about the effects of CO insufflation (CDI) on cerebral oxygen saturation (CrSO) during laparoscopy in the pediatric population. In children undergoing robotic-assisted laparoscopic pyeloplasty (RALP), we prospectively assessed the effects of CDI using standard monitoring and cerebral near-infrared spectroscopy (NIRS). We also explored whether a correlation existed between CrSO and parameters known to affect cerebral blood flow.

A surgical series on endometriosis-related diaphragmatic hernia.

Background: Thoracic endometriosis syndrome gives rise to various clinical and radiological manifestations. We reviewed the records of patients operated for intrathoracic migration of abdominal viscera through a diaphragmatic hernia secondary to thoracic endometriosis.

Methods: We retrospectively reviewed the single-center prospective collected database of all patients operated for thoracic endometriosis during the twenty years.

Thermodynamic bifurcation in anoxic heart: A far-from-equilibrium dissipative structure.

Thermodynamic consequences of a three-hour long anoxia were investigated on the isolated mammalian rat myocardium. The anoxic heart operated in a far-from-equilibrium manner as attested by the non-linearity between the thermodynamic force and the thermodynamic flow. When subjected to slight fluctuations due to anoxia, the open far-from-equilibrium cardiac system presented a thermodynamic bifurcation at ~ 60 minutes of anoxia.

Low rate of periprosthetic femoral fracture with the Hueter anterior approach using stems cemented according to the 'French paradox'.

Aims: The aim of this retrospective study was to assess the incidence of early periprosthetic femoral fracture (PFF) associated with Charnley-Kerboull (CK) femoral components cemented according to the 'French paradox' principles through the Hueter anterior approach (HAA) in patients older than 70 years.

Methods: From a prospectively collected database, all short CK femoral components implanted consecutively from January 2018 to May 2022 through the HAA in patients older than 70 years were included. Exclusion criteria were age below 70 years, use of cementless femoral component, and approaches other than the HAA.
