Stability of symptom-based subtypes in Sjogren's disease.

Objectives: The Newcastle Sjogren's Stratification Tool (NSST) stratifies Sjogren's disease patients into four subtypes. Understanding the stability of the subtypes is vital if symptom-based stratification is to be more broadly adopted. In this study, we stratify patients longitudinally to understand how symptom-based subtypes vary over time and factors influencing subtype change.

Background: To examine the psychometrics properties of the French version of two scales measuring general (HLS-Q12) and navigational (HLS-NAV) health literacy (HL) using validation methods based on modern psychometric test theories: a Rasch model analysis.

Methods: The data on representative samples of the French adult population came from the Health Literacy Survey (N = 2 003), conducted in France in two waves (2020 and 2021), and from the third wave of SLAVACO study (N = 2 022), conducted in December 2021. A Rasch analysis was performed using a partial credit model with marginal maximum likelihood estimation adapted to polytomous data.

Fertility preservation before cancer treatment: the dilemma of saying 'no' as the price of glory.

A great deal of work has been carried out by professionals in reproductive medicine in order to raise awareness about fertility preservation (FP) techniques, particularly for women, and to ensure that FP is included in the care of young adults treated for cancer or a pathology requiring gonadotoxic treatment. If the importance of the development of our discipline is obvious, our militancy in favour of FP and our emotional projections must not make us forget that medical thinking must be carried out not only on a case-by-case basis, weighing up the benefit-risk balance, but also without losing sight that conceiving a child with one's own gametes is not a vital issue. The cultural importance given to the genetic link with offspring may bias patients' and physicians' decisions, while other ways of achieving parenthood exist, and are often more effective.

Reductions in World Health Organization risk drinking level are associated with improvements in sleep problems among individuals with alcohol use disorder.

Aims: Among individuals with alcohol use disorder (AUD), sleep disturbances are pervasive and contribute to the etiology and maintenance of AUD. However, despite increased attention toward the relationship between alcohol use and sleep, limited empirical research has systematically examined whether reductions in drinking during treatment for AUD are associated with improvements in sleep problems.

Methods: We used data from a multisite, randomized, controlled trial that compared 6 months of treatment with gabapentin enacarbil extended-release with placebo for adults with moderate-to-severe AUD (N = 346).

Value and Variability of Pulse Shape Indicator for Estimating Mean Arterial Pressure in the Radial and Femoral Arteries.

Background: The form factor (FF) is a pulse shape indicator that corresponds to the fraction of pulse pressure added to diastolic blood pressure to estimate the time-averaged mean arterial pressure (MAP). Our invasive study assessed the FF value and variability at the radial and femoral artery levels and evaluated the recommended fixed FF value of 0.33.

Introduction: Proximal femur fractures in elderly patients pose a common problem that requires surgical management. The main objective of this study was to compare the results of treatment by locked plate (LP) and by anterograde (AIN) or retrograde (RIN) intramedullary nailing. Methods: In this multicentre observational study we included patients with autoimmune or inflammatory diseases who received pre-exposure prophylaxis with tixagevimab/cilgavimab between December 2021 and August 2022. The endpoint was incidence of COVID-19 and its severity.

Physiological Modeling of Hemodynamic Responses to Sodium Nitroprusside.

Background: Computational modeling of physiology has become a routine element in the development, evaluation, and safety testing of many types of medical devices. Members of the Food and Drug Administration have recently published a manuscript detailing the development, validation, and sensitivity testing of a computational model for blood volume, cardiac stroke volume, and blood pressure, noting that such a model might be useful in the development of closed-loop fluid administration systems. In the present study, we have expanded on this model to include the pharmacologic effect of sodium nitroprusside and calibrated the model against our previous experimental animal model data.

Chronic pain characteristics in COVID-19 survivors after an ICU stay. A cross-sectional study.

Background: The onset and characteristics of chronic pain following an intensive care unit (ICU) stay for COVID-19 have never been thoroughly investigated.

Study Design: A multicenter cohort study was conducted to describe chronic pain, according to ICD-11, among COVID-19 survivors. The chronic pain was assessed during face-to-face consultations with a pain specialist.

Background: The development of telehealth and telemedicine, in the form of increased teleconsultation and medical telemonitoring, accelerated during the COVID-19 health crisis in France to ensure continued access to care for the population. Since these new information and communication technologies (ICTs) are diverse and likely to transform how the health care system is organized, there is a need better to understand public attitudes toward them and their relationship with peoples' current experience of health care.

Guidelines on perioperative optimization protocol for the adult patient 2023.

Objective: The French Society of Anesthesiology and Intensive Care Medicine [Société Française d'Anesthésie et de Réanimation (SFAR)] aimed at providing guidelines for the implementation of perioperative optimization programs.

Design: A consensus committee of 29 experts from the SFAR was convened. A formal conflict-of-interest policy was developed at the outset of the process and enforced throughout.

Background: Risks of maternal morbidity are known to be reduced in pregnancies resulting from frozen embryo transfer (FET) compared to fresh-embryo transfer (-ET), except for the risk of pre-eclampsia, reported to be higher in FET pregnancies compared to -ET or natural conception. Few studies have compared the risk of maternal vascular morbidities according to endometrial preparation for FET, either with ovulatory cycle (OC-FET) or artificial cycle (AC-FET). Furthermore, maternal pre-eclampsia could be associated with subsequent vascular disorders in the offspring.

Impact of newly diagnosed prostate cancer at time of evaluation for renal transplantation.

Systematic screening for prostate cancer is widely recommended in candidates for renal transplant at the time of listing. There are concerns that overdiagnosis of low-risk prostate cancer may result in reducing access to transplant without demonstrated oncological benefits. The objective of the study was to assess the outcome of newly diagnosed prostate cancer in candidates for transplant at the time of listing, and its impact on transplant access and transplant outcomes according to treatment options.

Association Between Bruton's Tyrosine Kinase Gene Overexpression and Risk of Lymphoma in Primary Sjögren's Syndrome.

Objective: We undertook this study to analyze whole blood gene expression and to investigate the role of B cell genes in primary Sjögren's syndrome-related non-Hodgkin lymphoma (primary SS-NHL).

Methods: Peripheral whole blood samples were collected from 345 well-phenotyped patients with primary SS enrolled in the prospective Assessment of Systemic Signs and Evolution in Sjögren's Syndrome (ASSESS) cohort. Transcriptomic analysis was performed using human Clariom S Arrays (Affymetrix).

Evaluation of the accuracy of the PLCO 6-year lung cancer risk prediction model among smokers in the CARTaGENE population-based cohort.

Background: The PLCO prediction tool for risk of lung cancer has been proposed for a pilot program for lung cancer screening in Quebec, but has not been validated in this population. We sought to validate PLCO in a cohort of Quebec residents, and to determine the hypothetical performance of different screening strategies.
