Introduction: Although many studies have underscored the importance of T cells, phenotypically and functionally, fewer have studied the functions of myeloid cells in COVID disease. In particular, the potential role of myeloid cells such as monocytes and low-density neutrophils (LDNs) in innate responses and particular in the defense against secondary bacterial infections has been much less documented.
Methods: Here, we compared, in a longitudinal study, healthy subjects, idiopathic fibrosis patients, COVID patients who were either hospitalized/moderate (M-) or admitted to ICU (COV-ICU) and patients in ICU hospitalized for other reasons (non-COV-ICU).

Background: Vaccine-induced immune thrombotic thrombocytopenia (VITT) is a complication of adenoviral-based vaccine against SARS-CoV-2 due to prothrombotic immunoglobulin (Ig) G antibodies to platelet factor 4 (PF4) and may be difficult to distinguish from heparin-induced thrombocytopenia (HIT) in patients treated with heparin.
Objectives: We assessed the usefulness of competitive anti-PF4 enzyme immunoassays (EIAs) in this context.
Methods: The ability of F(ab')2 fragments of 1E12, 1C12, and 2E1, 3 monoclonal anti-PF4 antibodies, to inhibit the binding of human VITT or HIT antibodies to PF4 was evaluated using EIAs.

Introduction: Weight loss after bariatric surgery causes very important modifications to the patient's silhouette. Abdominal fat and skin excess reduction are associated with several complications. The most frequent are seroma and hematoma whereas major complications, such as pulmonary embolism, are less frequent.

Background: Information concerning the impact of the COVID-19 health crisis on populations most affected by HIV and hepatitis C virus (HCV; or key populations [KP]), and those working with these populations in community settings, is limited. Community-based organizations working in the field of HIV and viral hepatitis are well placed to identify and meet the new needs of KP owing to the health crisis.
Objective: This study aims to describe the development and implementation of an exploratory and descriptive multicountry, community-based research program, EPIC (Enquêtes Pour évaluer l'Impact de la crise sanitaire covid en milieu Communautaire), within an international network of community-based organizations involved in the response to HIV and viral hepatitis.

Background: Both AIDS-defining and non-AIDS-defining cancers (ADC/NADC) predispose people living with HIV (PLHIV) to critical illnesses. The objective of this multicentre study was to investigate the prognostic impact of ADC and NADC in PLHIV admitted to the intensive care unit (ICU).
Methods: All PLHIV admitted over the 2015-2020 period in 12 university-affiliated ICUs in France were included in the study cohort.

In order to implement individual instrument traceability, the evolution of laser and micropercussion markings was evaluated over 250 sterilisation cycles. A datamatrix associated with its alphanumeric code was applied on three types of instruments by laser or micropercussion. All instruments had a unique identifier affixed by the manufacturer.

Drug-resistant tuberculosis (DR-TB) is a major public health concern worldwide. The prolonged isolation required is a source of challenges for both healthcare workers and patients, especially in high-income countries where DR-TB patients are frequently migrants with vulnerabilities. However, data on the needs of these vulnerable patients are scarce.

Purpose Of Review: Managing antimicrobial therapy in patients with complicated skin and soft tissue infections (SSTI) constitutes a growing challenge due to the wide spectrum of potential pathogens and resistance phenotypes. Today, microbiological documentation relies on cultural methods. This review summarizes the available evidence regarding the clinical input of rapid microbiological diagnostic tools (RMDT) and their impact on the management of antimicrobial therapy in SSTI.

Fournier's gangrene is a necrotizing soft tissue infection of the genital, perineal, and perirectal areas. A primary isolated involvement of the penis is rare, but it can be affected in some circumstances. The purpose of this case series is to present the findings of our thirteen years' experience in the reconstruction of the penis in Fournier's gangrene and our full-thickness grafting technique to cover the penis rod.

Background: Since the COVID-19 pandemic began, a cohort of Multisystem inflammatory syndrome in children (MIS-C) patients has been described. Cardiac involvement is found in 80-85% patients, typically with cardiac dysfunction with or without cardiogenic shock. Here, three cardiac biomarkers, BNP, NT-proBNP and Galectin-3 were compared for the first time in MIS-C in a unique cohort of hospitalized French children.

Background: Fournier's gangrene is a rare form of necrotizing fasciitis that affects the genital area up to the perineal region and sometimes the abdominal wall.
Objectives: Our article aims to show that in the treatment of extensive forms of Fournier's gangrene, correct use of flap and skin grafts and a quick reconstruction of the exposed tissues avoid scarring retraction of the testicles and deformation of the penis.
Materials And Methods: We retrospectively reviewed the clinical and photographic data of Fournier's gangrene cases treated at our Institute.

Introduction: Since the beginning of the HIV epidemic in resource-rich countries, Pneumocystis jirovecii pneumonia (PjP) is one of the most frequent opportunistic AIDS-defining infections. The Collaboration of Observational HIV Epidemiological Research Europe (COHERE) has shown that primary Pneumocystis jirovecii Pneumonia (PjP) prophylaxis can be safely withdrawn in patients with CD4 counts of 100 to 200 cells/µL if plasma HIV-RNA is suppressed on combination antiretroviral therapy. Whether this holds true for secondary prophylaxis is not known, and this has proved difficult to determine due to the much lower population at risk.

Aims: Limited data exist regarding the incidence and aetiology of life-threatening events such as major cardiac events or exertional heat stroke during long-distance races. We aimed to provide an updated incidence, etiology and prognosis of life-threatening events during long-distance races.
Methods: The prospective RACE PARIS registry recorded all life-threatening events/fatal events occurring during 46 marathons, half-marathons and other long-distance races in the Paris area between 2006 and 2016, comprising 1,073,722 runners.

The postage stamp can serve as a means of promoting the social, educational and philanthropic aspects of the fight against diseases in general and infectious diseases (such as AIDS, associated with HIV infection) in particular. The recent but eventful history of this virus and the disease that it causes has prompted the issue of a considerable number of postage stamps worldwide - barely fewer than the number dedicated to combating tuberculosis and malaria. The present semiotic review of 356 international postage stamps on HIV/AIDS is the first to have used a multicriterion evaluation grid based on the interpretation of indices, icons, and symbols.

Emergency 3D-printing of medical devices came out as a potential solution to tackle shortages during the COVID-19 pandemic. Manufacturing medical devices in small series within hospitals is an exciting perspective in crisis management. Health professionals and additive manufacturing technology are ready for this revolution but regulative adaptations are still required.

Rituximab (RTX) therapy for primary focal segmental glomerulosclerosis recurrence after kidney transplantation (KT) has been extensively debated. We aimed to assess the benefit of adding RTX to plasmapheresis (PP), corticosteroids, and calcineurin inhibitors (standard of care, SOC). We identified 148 adult patients who received KT in 12/2004-12/2018 at 21 French centers: 109 received SOC (Group 1, G1), and 39 received immediate RTX along with SOC (Group 2, G2).
