Risk factors for flap dehiscence and/or necrosis following standard rotational flap in cranial vault osteomyelitis without intracranial involvement: A retrospective study.

Objectives: The study aimed to estimate the incidence of flap dehiscence and/or necrosis (FD/N) following standard rotational flap (SRF) surgery for cranial vault osteomyelitis without intracranial involvement (CVO) and to identify factors associated with these complications.

Methods: A retrospective study was conducted using chart reviews of patients who underwent SRF to cover CVO defects over a 10-year period. Twenty-one predictor variables were analysed, categorised into demographic, health status, anatomic, and surgical factors.

Effects of Nanofat and PRP on Type I Collagen Production in Striae Distensae: Preliminary Findings from a Prospective, Randomized Single-Blind Study.

Introduction: Striae distensae (SD) appear clinically as parallel striae, lying perpendicular to the tension lines of the skin. SD evolve into two clinical phases, an initial inflammatory phase in which they are called "striae rubrae" (SR) and a chronic phase in which they are called striae albae (SA). This study investigates the synergistic effect of nanofat and platelet-rich plasma (PRP) injections on collagen production in fibroblasts derived from SA (SAF).

EUROVISCO Consensus Guidelines for the Use of Hyaluronic Acid Viscosupplementation in Knee Osteoarthritis Based on Patient Characteristics.

Objectives: Viscosupplementation with hyaluronic acid (HA) is a commonly used intra-articular treatment for osteoarthritis (OA). We performed a Delphi consensus process to formulate guidelines for the use of intra-articular hyaluronic acid (IAHA) knee injection according to the patient's characteristics.

Methods: The EUROVISCO group consists of 12 members who had expertise in clinical and/or research in the field of OA and IAHA treatment.

Impact of hydroxyurea on follicle density in patients with sickle cell disease.

The impact of hydroxyurea (HU) on the ovarian reserve of female patients with sickle cell disease (SCD) remains poorly elucidated. Only direct histological analysis of ovarian follicle density can effectively evaluate HU's effect on ovarian reserve. By analyzing digitized slides of ovarian tissue from girls and young women with SCD who underwent ovarian tissue cryopreservation (OTC) before hematological stem cell transplantation, we meticulously counted follicles and categorized them based on their growth stage.

Face transplant (FT) has emerged as a groundbreaking option for patients with severe facial deformities, resulting from congenital disorders, trauma, or tumor ablation. Although reconstructive surgery has made significant strides, the challenges of restoring both form and function remain, particularly in centrally located defects. This review explored the long-term outcomes of FT, addressing its challenges and potential pitfalls.

Effect of corticosteroids on ischemia-reperfusion injury of deep inferior epigastric perforator flap after re-exploration for anastomosis thrombosis: A prospective randomized trial.

Patients undergoing breast reconstruction with the deep inferior epigastric perforator (DIEP) flap are at risk of arterial and venous thrombosis, necessitating flap salvage surgery. However, this carries the risk of ischemia-reperfusion injury (IRI) and potential significant partial or complete flap loss. The objective of this study was to evaluate the potential benefit of corticosteroids in reducing IRI related complications in DIEP flaps that are returned to the operation theater for attempted salvage after venous or arterial failure.

First-ever acute ischemic strokes in HIV-infected persons: A case-control study from stroke units.

Carbon-Assisted Q-Switched Nd:YAG Laser and Microneedling Delivery of Botulinum Toxin: A Prospective Pilot Study.

Background: Carbon-assisted, Q-switched, neodymium-doped yttrium-aluminum-garnet laser treatment consists of applying a topical carbon suspension all over the face, followed by irradiation with a Q-switched 1064-nm neodymium-doped yttrium-aluminum-garnet laser. The delivery of multiple microdroplets of dilute onabotulinum toxin type A into the dermis has been investigated as a tool for facial rejuvenation. The aim of this study was to assess the effectiveness of the combined treatment with botulinum toxin and carbon peel laser (performed with a standardized technique) in patients with seborrhea, dilated pores, and wrinkles, and to demonstrate its benefits in improving the overall skin aspect.

Prevalence and cost of sickle cell disease in France: real-world analysis using data from the Echantillon Généraliste des Bénéficiaires.

Sickle cell disease (SCD) is a genetic disorder of the hemoglobin resulting in chronic anemia, hemolysis, and vaso-occlusions. Its treatment mostly relies on hydroxycarbamide, transfusions, and stem cell transplantation. This study aimed at describing the epidemiology and management of SCD in adolescent and adult patients in France.

Three Pedicle-Based Nipple-Sparing Skin-Reducing Mastectomy Combined with Prepectoral Implant-Based Breast Reconstruction.

Background: Nipple-sparing mastectomy (NSM) and immediate breast reconstruction have demonstrated positive aesthetic outcomes and high patient satisfaction. However, challenges arise when performing NSM on patients with large and ptotic breasts because of the higher risk of nipple-areola complex (NAC) necrosis. This study proposes a new technique: the three pedicle-based nipple-sparing skin-reducing mastectomy (TP-NSSRM), combined with direct-to-implant (DTI) breast reconstruction, aimed at reducing complications.

Facelift: Assessment of Total Platysma Muscle Transection to Prevent the Recurrence of Platysmal Bands.

Introduction: Determining which facelift technique yields the most effective long-term rejuvenation results and ensures optimal stability over time remains a significant question in cosmetic surgery: Does the most invasive surgery lead to the best long-term outcomes? This study aims to evaluate the authors' approach using total platysma muscle transection to prevent platysma band recurrence, and to provide anatomical observations supporting and justifying their procedure.

Material And Methods: A preliminary study in anatomical basic sciences was conducted to establish the rationale for our method. A prospective single-blind study was conducted, involving eighty patients seeking facial rejuvenation with platysmal band correction.

The Use of Posterior Auricular Fascia Graft (PAFG) for Slight Dorsal Augmentation and Irregular Dorsum Coverage in Primary and Revision Rhinoplasty: A Prospective Study.

Introduction: Augmentation and coverage of irregularities of the nasal dorsum remain a challenge in rhinoplasty. Different techniques have been described in the current literature for this purpose. The aim of this study is to assess and illustrate the author experience and outcomes using the posterior auricular fascia graft (PAFG) for dorsal camouflage and augmentation in primary and revision rhinoplasty.

Assessment of deep plane facelift in facial feminization surgery: A prospective pilot study.

Facial feminization surgery (FFS) is often the first procedure requested by patients wishing to undergo gender-affirming surgery. This study aims to evaluate the applicability and effectiveness of deep plane facelifts in FFS. The authors conducted a prospective study that included patients who requested a deep plane facelift as a standalone procedure to achieve a more feminine facial appearance as the only procedure of FFS.

PRECISE Scale: a quantitative classification for androgenetic alopecia and its application to hair transplantation.

Background: Androgenetic alopecia (AGA) is a prevalent genetic condition that can affect both male and female, and is considered the most frequent form of hair loss. Traditional scales and methods of classifying AGA are basically qualitative.

Objective: This work aims to propose a quantitative scale to classify AGA in order to assist hair transplantation surgery.

Assessment of the Efficacy of Cryolipolysis on Abdominal Fat Deposits: A Prospective Study.

Background: Cryolipolysis is a non-invasive and efficacious procedure for body contouring. The effectiveness of cryolipolysis has been demonstrated on multiple areas of the body, but on a limited number of subjects. The aim of this study is to demonstrate the effectiveness and the safety of cryolipolysis in the lower abdomen adipose tissue thickness reduction.

Does Training Background Influence Outcomes after Coronal Scalp Incision for Treating Craniomaxillofacial Injuries?: A German Pilot Study.

Objectives: To examine outcomes of the coronal scalp approach to craniomaxillofacial (CMF) fractures performed by oral-maxillofacial or craniofacial plastic surgery residents (OMFS/CFPS-Rs) trauma surgery residents (TS-Rs), and to determine differences in treatment outcomes between both operator groups.

Methods: This retrospective cohort study enrolled a sample of CMF fracture adult patients treated via the coronal approach in a German level one trauma center during a two-year interval. The predictor variable was training background (OMFS/CFPS-Rs TS-Rs; each  = 5).

Surgery, Tissue Plasminogen Activator, Antiangiogenic Agents, and Age-Related Macular Degeneration Study: A Randomized Controlled Trial for Submacular Hemorrhage Secondary to Age-Related Macular Degeneration.

Purpose: To compare the efficacy and the safety of submacular hemorrhage (SMH) management using either surgical pars plana vitrectomy (PPV) or pneumatic displacement (PD) with tissue plasminogen activator (tPA) and vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) inhibitor added to each arm.

Design: Randomized, open-label, multicenter superiority study.

Participants: Ninety patients with neovascular age-related macular degeneration (nAMD) 50 years of age or older with recent SMH (≤ 14 days) of more than 2 optic disc areas and predominantly overlying the retinal pigment epithelium.
