Homeostats: The hidden rulers of ion homeostasis in plants.

Ion homeostasis is a crucial process in plants that is closely linked to the efficiency of nutrient uptake, stress tolerance and overall plant growth and development. Nevertheless, our understanding of the fundamental processes of ion homeostasis is still incomplete and highly fragmented. Especially at the mechanistic level, we are still in the process of dissecting physiological systems to analyse the different parts in isolation.

Validation of an improved reference freeze-dried direct agglutination test for detecting leishmaniasis in the canine reservoir.

Proper identification and management of post-kala-azar dermal leishmaniasis (PKDL) and canine leishmaniasis (CanL) cases are among the prerequisites to the effective control of visceral leishmaniasis worldwide. Unlike PKDL, CanL still awaits effective improvement because of its cryptic nature, absence of parasites in lesions or lymph nodes and not complete sensitivity of some diagnostic tools in use. Because of the need for certain skills and equipment, both the liquid direct agglutination test and freeze-dried direct agglutination test (FD-DAT) versions are, in comparison with the indirect immunofluorescence antibody test (IFAT) or enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA), practical and feasible diagnostic alternatives.

The title compound, CHIN, is the -iodinated derivative of aniline. The asymmetric unit contains two mol-ecules. The structure was refined as a two-component inversion twin with a volume ratio of 55.

3-(2-Hy-droxy-eth-yl)-1-(4-nitro-phen-yl)-1-benzo[]imidazol-3-ium bromide.

The cation of the title salt, CHNO ·Br, has a dihedral angle of 24.26 (6)° between its fused imidazole and 4-nitro-phenyl rings and the N-C-C-O torsion angle associated with the hy-droxy-ethyl substituent is 60.15 (17)°.

Poly[di-aqua-[μ-1,4-bis-(pyridin-3-ylmeth-yl)piperazine][μ-4-(2-carboxyl-atoeth-yl)benzoato]cobalt(II)].

A layered cobalt coordination polymer containing both 4-(2-carboxyl-atoeth-yl)benzoate (ceb) and 1,4-bis-(3-pyridyl-meth-yl)piperazine (3-bpmp) ligands, [Co(CHO)(CHN)(HO)] or [Co(ceb)(3-bpmp)(HO)] , was isolated and structurally characterized by single-crystal X-ray diffraction. Chain-like [Co(ceb)(HO)] units are oriented parallel to [101]. These are connected into (4,4)-grid coordination polymer layers by tethering 3-bpmp ligands.

Sn(SO)·2HO from synchrotron powder data.

Tin(IV) sulfate dihydrate, Sn(SO)·2HO, was prepared in a reflux of sulfuric acid under oxidizing conditions. Its crystal structure was determined from powder synchrotron X-ray diffraction data and is constructed of (100) layers of [SnO(HO)] octa-hedra (point group symmetry 1) corner-connected by sulfate tetra-hedra. Hydrogen bonds of moderate strength between the water mol-ecules and sulfate O atoms hold the layers together.

Ethyl 4-[(2-hy-droxy-eth-yl)amino]-2-(4-meth-oxyphen-yl)-1-methyl-5-oxo-2,5-di-hydro-1-pyrrole-3-carboxyl-ate.

In the title compound, CHNO the pyrrolidine ring is almost planar and subtends a dihedral angle of 85.77 (7)° with the pendant phenyl ring. An intra-molecular N-H⋯O hydrogen bond generates an (6) loop.

6-Bromo-9,9-diethyl-,-di-phenyl-fluoren-2-amine.

In the title compound, CHBrN, the dihedral angles between the fluorene fused-ring system and the pendant phenyl groups are 67.76 (12) and 88.38 (12)°.

The title compound, [Fe(CHNO)(CHN)], was synthesized solvothermally. The complex exhibits a distorted octa-hedral coordination geometry. The Fe ion is located on an inversion centre.

Challenges and strategies for improving medication adherence among adolescent psychiatric patients: A qualitative study.

Despite significant advancements in the development of psychotropic medications, increasing adherence rates remain a challenge in the treatment and management of psychiatric disorders. The purpose of this study is to qualitatively explore the challenges underlying medication adherence and strategies to improve it among adolescents with psychiatric disorders in Malaysia. This qualitative research design presents results from 17 semi-structured interviews with adolescent psychiatric patients, aged 11 to 19 years old, from public hospitals across Peninsular Malaysia.

Serious mental health conditions and exposure to adulthood trauma in low- and middle-income countries: a scoping review.

Background: There is a strong link between trauma exposure and serious mental health conditions (SMHCs), such as schizophrenia and bipolar disorder. The majority of research in the field has focused on childhood trauma as a risk factor for developing an SMHC and on samples from high-income countries. There is less research on having an SMHC as a risk factor for exposure to traumatic events, and particularly on populations in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs).

Introduction: Cutaneous T-cell lymphoma (CTCL) is closely associated with the host microbiome. While recent evidence suggests that shifts in specific bacterial taxa are associated with response to UV-B, a form of non-ionizing radiation, the impact of ionizing radiation (IR) has not been investigated.

Methods: 16S rRNA and gene amplicon sequencing were performed on DNA extracted from swabs of lesional/non-lesional skin of 12 CTCL patients before/after TSEBT or local IR and from 25 matched healthy controls (HC).

Background: Studies on the accuracy of point-of-care (POC) testing using capillary samples are scarce. Therefore, this study aimed to assess the analytical accuracy of POC testing for white blood cell (WBC) and C-reactive protein (CRP) using capillary samples compared with conventional central laboratory testing using venous samples in a pediatric ambulatory care setting.

Methods: This was a retrospective study including patients younger than 18 years who underwent concurrent WBC and CRP evaluations via capillary and subsequent venous sampling within a 2-h window.

Characteristics of patients with somatoform pain disorder.

Background: Patients with somatoform pain experience physical pain that cannot be attributed to any underlying medical or physiological cause, and it is often thought to be related to psychological factors. Health professionals encounter difficulties identifying this specific type of chronic pain, leading to suboptimal treatment strategies. Therefore, we aimed to describe the characteristics of patients with somatoform pain, to support the identification of affected patients.

Acute mesenteric ischemia with abdominal skin mottling.

We report a rare case of a 90-year-old woman with Stage IV lung cancer awaiting transfer to hospice care who developed sudden abdominal and knee skin mottling. Elevated inflammatory markers on blood tests and emergent computed tomography led to a diagnosis of acute mesenteric ischemia, and the patient passed away 7 h later. Skin mottling indicates decreased blood flow in the gastrointestinal tract and is observed during mesenteric ischemia.
