Effects of Human Papillomavirus Awareness and Knowledge on Psychological State of Women Referred to Cervical Cancer Screening.

Objective: The aim of the study was to assess the impact of human papillomavirus (HPV) awareness and knowledge on physiological state and quality of life of women referred to colposcopy and/or HPV testing.

Materials And Methods: A cross-sectional study was carried out at University Hospital, Belgrade, Serbia. The women with abnormal Pap test results obtained at the primary care centers requiring colposcopy and/or HPV testing were included.

Psychosexual outcomes in women of reproductive age at more than two-years from excisional cervical treatment - a cross-sectional study.

To investigate the long-term psychosexual outcomes in women following excisional cervical treatment. Women with cold-knife conization (CKC) or large loop excision of the transformation zone (LLETZ) treatment were interviewed after a follow-up colposcopy visit. Their demographics, treatment and psychosexual characteristics were recorded.

Impact of transient period of metabolic adaptation on perinatal asphyxia in neonates with intrauterine growth retardation.

Association between walking, dysphoric mood and anxiety in late pregnancy: A cross-sectional study.

Relationship between physical activity and mental disorders in late pregnancy is unclear. In this work, we demonstrate that there is a significant association between the time spent on walking and symptoms of depression and anxiety in antenatal period. The cross-sectional study was done on a sample of 200 healthy women in 9th month of physiological pregnancy at Health center Kraljevo, Serbia during 2015.

High-risk human papilloma virus genotypes in cervical carcinoma of Serbian women: Distribution and association with pathohistological findings.

A significant role of high-risk Human papilloma viruses (HR HPV) in the development of cervical carcinoma is well known. HR HPV 16 and 18 account for approximately 70% of all cases of cervical cancer worldwide. The incidence of cervical cancer in Serbia, is one of the highest in Europe.

Cesarean myomectomy trends and controversies: an appraisal.

Objective: Although the first report on cesarean myomectomy (CM) was a century ago, the management of a myomectomy during a cesarean section (CS) remains controversial. The objective of this study is to provide the latest data on this topic regarding the techniques and complications of CM.

Methods: The authors consulted the most important scientific databases investigating the indications and contraindications for CM, the operational techniques, benefits and complications.

A maternal deletion upstream of the imprint control region 2 in 11p15 causes loss of methylation and familial Beckwith-Wiedemann syndrome.

Beckwith-Wiedemann syndrome (BWS; OMIM #130650) is an overgrowth syndrome caused by different genetic or epigenetic alterations affecting imprinted regions on chromosome 11p15.5. Here we report a family with multiple offspring affected with BWS including giant omphalocoeles in which maternal transmission of a chromosomal rearrangement including an inversion and two deletions leads to hypomethylation of the imprint control region 2 (ICR2).

Cross-cultural adaptation and validation of the Serbian version of the ICS SF male questionnaire.

Introduction: The objective of this study was to cross-culturally adapt and validate ICS male SF questionnaire to Serbian language.

Materials And Methods: This study included 91 male patients with lower urinary tract symptoms and 24 men with similar age and with confirmed absence of LUTS. ICS male SF questionnaire was translated from English to Serbian language and then back-translated to English.

Correlation between sperm parameters and protein expression of antioxidative defense enzymes in seminal plasma: a pilot study.

Background: Semen analysis is the cornerstone in the evaluation of male (in)fertility. However, there are men with normal semen tests but with impaired fertilizing ability, as well as fertile men with poor sperm characteristics. Thus, there is rising interest to find novel parameters that will help to predict and define the functional capacity of spermatozoa.

Electric shock in pregnancy: a review.

Objective: The effect of gestational age and other factors that could influence the outcome of an electric shock in pregnancy have not been defined yet. Objective of this study is to provide reliable data on medical issues linked to electric shock in pregnancy.

Methods: Authors consulted the most important scientific databases investigating reactions to electric shock in pregnancy, analyzing mechanism of electric shock, gestational age at the time of injury, the post-shock complications, interval from injury to delivery and fetal and maternal outcome.

Objective: Objective of our study was to evaluate changes in Doppler resistance indices in the common hepatic artery during normal pregnancy.

Study Design: Cross-sectional study included 210 healthy pregnant women gestational age 6-40 weeks, 40 healthy non-pregnant women and 30 women after delivery. We divided all pregnant women by pregnancy trimester.

The influence of maternal smoking habits before pregnancy and antioxidative supplementation during pregnancy on oxidative stress status in a non-complicated pregnancy.

Background: As a physiological condition closely linked with increased susceptibility to oxidative stress, pregnancy can be further compromised by cigarette smoking. Inadequate nutrition and reduced intake of antioxidants can also disrupt the prooxidant/antioxidant relationship and contribute to oxidative stress. Increased oxidative stress during pregnancy may be involved in several complications of pregnancy, such as preterm labor, fetal growth restriction, preeclampsia and miscarriage.

Relationship between mid-trimester ultrasound fetal liver length measurements and gestational diabetes mellitus.

Background: The aim of the present study was to investigate the relationship between mid-trimester ultrasound fetal liver length (FLL) and gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) in a high-risk population.

Methods: A prospective study was performed in 331 women with singleton pregnancies who were at high risk of GDM and were undergoing a mid-trimester ultrasound examination. The ultrasound scan at 23 weeks gestation was followed by a 100-g oral glucose tolerance test (OGTT) at 24 weeks gestation.

An overview of neovaginal reconstruction options in male to female transsexuals.

Transsexualism is a complex condition in which the person experiences the inconsistency between the desired gender and their biological gender. Absence of the vagina is devastating in male to female transsexuals. Creation of the neovagina is the main surgical problem in these patients.

Simultaneous dermoid cyst and endometriosis in the same ovary: a case report.

The authors present a case of a 33-year-old infertile woman with coincidental dermoid cyst and ovarian endometriosis in the same ovary. She was admitted to the Clinic because of cystic tumor of the left adnexa. Transvaginal ultrasound (TVUS) examination found a bilocular tumor of complex structure on the left ovary.

Methylenetetrahydrofolate reductase and glutathione S-tranferase gene polymorphisms in secondary mixed phenotype acute leukemia: a case report.

Background: Therapy-induced leukemia is a well-known clinical syndrome occurring as a late complication in patients treated with cytotoxic therapy.

Observation: We herein present results of analysis of common gene polymorphisms in methylenetetrahydrofolate reductase (MTHFR) and glutathione S-transferase (GST) genes in a 10-year-old boy who developed very rare type of cancer, mixed phenotype acute leukemia, 6 years after treatment of acute lymphoblastic leukemia.

Conclusions: Impairment in function of GST and MTHFR enzymes found in our patient may have contributed to the development of secondary mixed phenotype acute leukemia, although precise mechanism remains elusive.

Erythropoietin in amniotic fluid as a potential marker in distinction between growth restricted and constitutionally small fetuses.

Objective: To determine if there is any difference in amniotic fluid erythropoietin (EPO) concentration between fetuses small for gestational age (SGA) and appropriate for gestational age (AGA), and between the constitutionally small (CSF) and growth-restricted (GRF) fetuses.

Methods: EPO concentrations in the amniotic fluid samples were determined by EpoELISA test in 38 pregnancies with SGA and 15 pregnancies with AGA fetuses. In the SGA group we measured Ponderal index (PI) and skin-fold thickness (SFT).

Carcinosarcoma of the uterus in advanced stage: a case report.

This is the case of an advanced stage carcinosarcoma uteri, in a patient with limited therapy options. Carcinosarcomas (malignant mixed Müllerian tumors) are histologically composed of malignant epithelial and mesenchymal components. Sarcomatous component of this mixed tumor in the present patient was of heterologous-type chondrosarcoma.

Cesarean section scar pregnancy treatment--case report.

This is a case report of a 36-year-old patient with an ectopic pregnancy located in the previous cesarean section scar following in vitro fertilization (IVF). The patient was treated by 50 mg of intrasacular methotrexate locally under ultrasound guidance. Transvaginal ultrasound (TVUS) confirmed that the pregnancy was no longer vital within 24 hours, dilatation and aspiration of the ovular tissue were performed after seven days and it was sent for pathohistological analysis.

Herlyn-Werner-Wunderlich syndrome--a case report.

This is a case report of Herlyn-Werner-Wunderlich syndrome in a 28-year-old patient. She was admitted to hospital for surgical treatment of the pelvic mass accompanied by painful menstruation periods. This syndrome was diagnosed by US and MRI and it was treated by hemi-hysterectomy with vaginectomy.

Comparison of hysterosonography and hysteroscopy for diagnosing perimenopausal bleeding.

This investigation was a prospective study performed at the Gynecological Clinic "Narodni Front" in Belgrade. In the investigated group, endometrial hyperplasia, endometrial polyp, and myoma were diagnosed as the most frequent causes of bleeding during perimenopause. The test group of patients was then subjected to hysterosonography in order to diagnose bleeding etiology, followed by hysteroscopy to confirm its etiology based on hysterosonography.
