In 32 postmenopausal patients who underwent vaginal hysterectomy due to the presence of uterine prolapse at the Department of Uro-gynaecology and Pelvic Floor Disorders in the Clinic of Gynaecology and Obstetrics, Medical School, Skopje in the period from 1st January 2002 to 1st January 2003, and who were preoperatively treated with transdermal estradiol 50 microg/day during 14 days the following parameters of the coagulating status were estimated: prothrombin time (PT) that is expressed in: absolute value, percentage and INR; activated partial thromboplastin time (aPTT Pathrombin SL); thrombin time and platelets number before and after hormone replacement therapy. After 14-day transdermal estrogen therapy, the parameters: PT, PT%, PT INR, aPTT Pathrombin SL didn't expressed significant changes, the thrombin time expressed significant extension, and the platelets expressed a significant decrease. According to our results, the transdermal estrogens might not have any influence on the hepatic synthesis of coagulating factors till the step of prothrombin formation.

We report the case of a 64-year-old patient, in menopause for the past 11 years or so, referred to the Gynecology and Obstetrics Clinic of the University of L'Aquila, with an anamnesis of menometrorrhagia since the age of 55. The patient was studied from a gynecological and internist profile including the following procedures: gynecological examination and pap-test, colposcopy, transvaginal scan, chest X-ray, abdominal and pelvic CAT, laboratory tests and Mantoux reaction.

A technique disclosing most information about chromosome modifications is the technique of choice for the analysis of chromosome alterations. The newly developed method for microdissection of fluorescence-labeled chromosomes (FISH-MD) can improve upon this expectation in combination with 24-color spectral karyotyping (SKY). The highly efficient way to detect chromosome modifications by SKY and the detailed specification of aberrant chromosomes by FISH-MD prompted us to use both techniques in a combined approach called SKY-MD.

The improvements in cognitive and technological standards of medical science and in the education available have contributed in upgrading the role of flight surgeons; however, their presence in flight is considered essential in 20-60% of aeromedical evacuations, with the remainder of the flights being covered by paramedical personnel. We combined the techniques of fluorescence in situ hybridization (FISH) and chromosomal microdissection in one experiment (FISH-MD). This novel method permits rapid identification of the composition, origin, and breakpoints of rearranged chromosomes. Rearranged chromosomes are first identified by multicolor-FISH, then the fluorophore-labeled derivative chromosomes are directly isolated by microdissection and reverse painted to identify the breakpoints.
