The role of cystatin C, neutrophil-lymphocyte ratio and platelet-lymphocyte ratio in the evaluation of kidney function in women with preeclampsia.

Objective: We aimed to compare the diagnostic efficiency of cystatin C with traditional kidney markers in preeclampsia and to evaluate the relationship of these markers with neutrophil-lymphocyte and thrombocyte-lymphocyte ratios.

Materials And Methods: 14 severe preeclampsia, 48 mild preeclampsia and 79 patients with healthy pregnancy who presented to our obstetrics and gynecology clinic within one year were compared. These three groups were compared in terms of demographic characteristics, physical findings, serum urea, creatinine, cystatin C levels, and neutrophil-lymphocyte and platelet-lymphocyte ratios.

Background And Aim Of The Work: The outbreak of the novel coronavirus (or SARS-CoV 2) has significantly struck the healthcare system worldwide. Over the course of a few weeks, hospitals reorganized their internal structure entirely at any level of care, from the Emergency rooms to Departments, including all the medical specialties.

Methods: In order to cope with the contingent state of emergency, the Gynecology and Obstetrics Unit of the University Hospital in Udine introduced new protocols and guidance for the usual standard of care, ensuring a safe environment for both healthcare providers and patients.

The role of resistin in early preeclampsia prediction.

Resistin might be involved with general inflammation and endothelial dysfunction observed in preeclampsia. We aimed to investigate longitudinal changes in resistin concentrations during high-risk pregnancies and evaluate their significance in preeclampsia development. Purpose: Our study aimed to determine the effect of continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) treatment for obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) on the incidence and severity of hypertensive syndrome in pregnancy.

Methods: The study included women with high-risk pregnancies and the Epworth Sleepiness Scale score ≥ of 10. Polygraphic testing was done between 18 and 20 weeks.

Purpose: We establish priority areas for adolescent health measurement and identify current gaps, aiming to focus resources on the most relevant data to improve adolescent health.

Methods: We collected four critical inputs to inform priority setting: perspectives of youth representatives, country priorities, disease burden, and existing measurement efforts. Health areas identified from the inputs were grouped, mapped, and summarized according to their frequency in the inputs.

A Case Report: The Third-largest Case in the Literature of a Vulvar Lipoma.

Lipoma is the most common soft-tissue tumor of mesenchymal tissue origin although very rarely found in the vulva. The present study aims to present a very rare and big lipoma. In this case, the patient was 70 years old and was admitted to our clinic with the complaint of soft vulvar mass, 17 cm × 14 cm × 10 cm in size.

Effect of Pelvic Organ Prolapse Reconstructive Mesh Surgery on the Quality of Life of Turkish Patients: A Prospective Study.

Objectives: The purpose of this study was to investigate transvaginal mesh treatment and its effect on the quality of life of Turkish patients with pelvic organ prolapse (POP). Turkish patients with POP were invited to participate in this study, and all the participants underwent prolapse surgery.

Materials And Methods: The clinical outcomes, including effectiveness of the treatment and changes in the quality of life, were measured by the short form-36 survey.

Vaginal delivery in a patient with severe aortic stenosis under epidural analgesia, a case report.

Background: A history of previous cardiac disease increases the maternal mortality risk by as much as 100%. There is no consensus on the absolute contraindications to vaginal delivery in valvular heart disease, but central regional anesthesia is traditionally considered contraindicated in patients with severe aortic stenosis.

Case Presentation: A 29-year-old primigravid woman with severe aortic stenosis was admitted to the obstetrics department for programmed labor induction.

Background: Recurrent pregnancy loss (RPL) is a heterogeneous condition affecting up to 5% of women of reproductive age. Inherited thrombophilia have been postulated as one of the causes of RPL. Here we examined the prevalence of nine thrombophilic gene polymorphisms among women with history of recurrent miscarriages and fertile controls.

Effects of mesh surgery on sexual function in pelvic prolapse and urinary incontinence.

Purpose: We aimed to determine pre-operative and post-operative sexual function scores of patients who underwent four-arm polypropylene mesh implantation surgery to treat urinary incontinence and pelvic organ prolapse.

Materials And Methods: A prospective study from January 2011 to November 2015 including patients (n: 72) submitted to surgical mesh implantation (four-arm anterior mesh implant (Betamix POP4R, Betatech Medical, Turkey) questioned the patients with Female Sexual Function Index evaluation form. The questionnaire was applied to all patients at pre-operative, post-operative 3rd month and post-operative 1st year periods.

Background: Endometrial cancer is the most common malignant neoplasm of the female reproductive organs. A dysfunctional endometrial renin-angiotensin system (RAS) might contribute to the growth and spread of endometrial cancer. The RAS-related gene polymorphisms, including the polymorphism of insertion/deletion (I/D) in the angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE) gene, influence RAS activity.

Lipid profile and lipid oxidative modification parameters in the first trimester of high- risk pregnancies - possibilities for preeclampsia prediction.

Objectives: The goal of this study was to investigate metabolic changes in lipids and oxidative stress parameters in the first trimester of pregnancy with the more specific aim of estimating the significance and strength of researched parameters in the prediction of preeclampsia.

Design And Methods: The study included 87 high-risk pregnant (HRG) female subjects, 14 with developed preeclampsia (PEC) and 43 healthy pregnant female subjects matched for gestational age (CG). Thiobarbituric acid-reactive substances (TBARS) concentration, lipid hydroperoxides (LOOH), pro-oxidant antioxidant balance (PAB) and total oxidative status (TOS) were measured as oxidative stress markers, while total antioxidant capacity (TAC) was measured as an antioxidative defense parameter.

Long-term Culture of EBV-induced Human Lymphoblastoid Cell Lines Reveals Chromosomal Instability.

To preserve material for future genetic studies, human B-lymphocytes from whole blood samples are routinely transformed into lymphoblastoid cell lines (LCLs) by in vitro infection with Epstein-Barr virus. To determine the rate and frequency of chromosomal changes during long-term culture, we established 10 LCLs (from eight individuals). Before transformation, these cases showed a normal karyotype (three cases), a small supernumerary marker chromosome (three cases), or an aberrant karyotype (four cases).

Endometrial immunocompetent cells in proliferative and secretory phase of normal menstrual cycle.

Background: Menstruation was presented as a result of inflammatory process. The total and relative numbers of the endometrial immunocompetitive cells vary during the different phases of the menstrual cycle. The aim of this morphological study is to make a contribution to understanding different distribution of leukocyte types during proliferative and secretory phase of normal menstrual cycle.
