For cervical cancer (CC), circulating cell-free HPV DNA (ccfHPV) may establish disease severity. Furthermore, HPV integration has been correlated to viral load and survival. In this study, pre-treatment plasma from 139 CC cases (50 primary surgery patients, 22 primary surgery + adjuvant oncological therapy patients, and 67 primary oncological therapy patients) was collected (2018-2020).

Background: The aim of this study was to evaluate whether there is a higher prevalence of anxiety-depressive disorders in women with BPS/IC (bladder pain syndrome/interstitial cystitis) than in women with chronic non-neoplastic pain with or without fibromyalgia, to examine possible correlations between urological and psychiatric symptoms.

Methods: The patients included in the study were divided into two groups: 1) group 0: patients with an existing diagnosis of BPS/IC. BPS/IC was confirmed by reviewing medical record; group 1+2: patients with chronic non-neoplastic pain, suffering from fibromyalgia or other types of chronic pain (chronic arthralgia or lower back pain).

Objective: To evaluate the efficacy of daily vaginal gel containing hyaluronic acid (HA) and Biosaccharide Gum-1 (BG-1) on vulvovaginal atrophy (VVA) and on sexual function and quality of life (QoL).

Materials And Methods: One hundred-four postmenopausal women with VVA were enrolled in the nonrandomized comparison cohort study. Of them, 50 women on HA/BG-1 participated in the study group and 54 women on lubricants/moisturizers on-demand as a control group.

A Novel Approach to Predicting Early Pregnancy Outcomes Dynamically in a Prospective Cohort Using Repeated Ultrasound and Serum Biomarkers.

This study aimed to develop a dynamic model for predicting outcome during the first trimester of pregnancy using baseline demographic data and serially collected blood samples and transvaginal sonographies. A prospective cohort of 203 unselected women with an assumed healthy pregnancy of < 8 weeks' gestation was followed fortnightly from 4-14 weeks' gestation until either miscarriage or confirmed first trimester viability. The main outcome was development of a model to predict outcome from gestational age-dependent hazard ratios using both baseline and updated serial data from each visit.

Association between sensitivity to thyroid hormone indices and osteoporosis in euthyroid patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus.

Background: Thyroid hormones are known to regulate bone metabolism and may influence bone mineral density (BMD), as well as the risk of osteoporosis (OP) and fractures in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM). Recently, sensitivity to thyroid hormone indices has been linked with T2DM and OP independently. However, the relationship between thyroid hormone sensitivity and OP in euthyroid T2DM patients has yet to be investigated.

Effects of Drospirenone only pill contraception on postpartum mood disorders: A prospective, comparative pilot study.

Objective: The aim of this non-randomized control study was to assess the effect of Drospirenone (DRSP) only pill (DOP) 4 mg, in a 24 active/4 placebo regimen, on the mood of postpartum women who wanted to use a hormonal contraceptive.

Study Design: Seventy-one women in the study group, and 78 in the control group, were included in intention-to-treat analyses. The depression score was assessed using the self-administrated Edinburgh Postnatal Depression Scale (EPDS) at the childbirth preparation course (T0), and at 2 (T1), 12 (T2), and 24 (T3) weeks postpartum follow-ups.

Inter-Rater Agreement for Diagnosing Adenomyosis Using Magnetic Resonance Imaging and Transvaginal Ultrasonography.

Our aim was to compare the inter-rater agreement about transvaginal ultrasonography (TVS) with magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) with regard to diagnosing adenomyosis and for assessing various predefined imaging features of adenomyosis, in the same set of women. The study cohort included 51 women, prospectively, consecutively recruited based on a clinical suspicion of adenomyosis. MRIs and TVS videoclips and 3D volumes were retrospectively assessed by four experienced radiologists and five experienced sonographers, respectively.

High Frequency of Deep Infiltrating Endometriosis in Patients with Inflammatory Bowel Disease: A Nested Case-Control Study.

Introduction: Inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) and endometriosis are chronic inflammatory diseases occurring in young women, sharing some clinical manifestations. In a multidisciplinary approach, we aimed to investigate symptoms, type, and site of pelvic endometriosis in IBD patients versus non-IBD controls with endometriosis.

Methods: In a prospective nested case-control study, all female premenopausal IBD patients showing symptoms compatible with endometriosis were enrolled.

Oral HPV Infection in Women with HPV-Positive Cervix Is Closely Related to Oral Sex.

The oral transmission of HPV and, consequently, the risk of oral cancer has increased in the last years. Oral sex has often been implicated among the risk factors for oral HPV infections, however, there is still no consensus on these topics, nor on the relationship between genital and oral HPV infections. The present study aimed to evaluate the coexistence of papilloma virus, at the levels of the oral and genital mucosa, in women with a histologically confirmed HPV lesions (and a positive HPV test) at the genital level and a negative HPV control group.

The possible association between human papillomavirus (HPV) infection and negative pregnancy outcomes has been debated in the literature, with conflicting results from clinical trials. While some authors support a link between HPV and miscarriage, others argue that the mere detection of the virus does not necessarily indicate a causal relationship with negative pregnancy outcomes. In this study, we conducted a prospective, controlled investigation of the potential association between HPV infection and miscarriage.

Purpose: The screening and diagnosis of osteoporosis in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) based on bone mineral density remains challenging because of the limited availability and accessibility of dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry. Post Treatment Sexual Function and Quality of Life of Patients Affected by Cervical Cancer: A Systematic Review.

: The aim of this study is to analyze the available scientific evidence regarding the quality of life (QoL) and sexual function (SF) in patients affected by cervical cancer (CC) after surgical and adjuvant treatments. : Preliminary research was conducted via electronic database (MEDLINE, PubMed and Cochrane Library) with the use of a combination of the following keywords: SF, QoL, and CC. The principal findings considered in the present review were the study design, the number of patients included in each study, the information about the malignancy (histology and stage of disease), the questionnaires administered, and the principal findings concerning SF and QoL.

A survey on the current practice of indicating an elective cesarean after a previous myomectomy.

Objective: The objective of this study was to evaluate the attitude of obstetricians/gynecologists toward indicating an elective cesarean delivery in pregnant patients with a previous myomectomy.

Materials And Methods: Web-based multiple-choice questions survey evaluating the attitude to indicate a cesarean with a composite summated score (range 56-280) from a 56-item Likert scale: score 56-112: weak attitude, 113-168: moderate, 169-224: strong, and 225-280: very strong. The reliability of the score (internal consistency) was evaluated with Cronbach's alpha coefficient.

Outcomes of High-Grade Cervical Dysplasia with Positive Margins and HPV Persistence after Cervical Conization.

The objective of this work is to assess the 5-year outcomes of patients undergoing conization for high-grade cervical lesions that simultaneously present as risk factors in the persistence of HPV infection and the positivity of surgical resection margins. This is a retrospective study evaluating patients undergoing conization for high-grade cervical lesions. All patients included had both positive surgical margins and experienced HPV persistence at 6 months.

"In Situ" Methotrexate Injection Followed by Hysteroscopic Resection for Caesarean Scar Pregnancy: A Single-Center Experience.

Background: We evaluated the efficacy of local methotrexate (MTX) treatment followed by hysteroscopic resection for caesarean scar pregnancy and its impact on future fertility.

Methods: Monocentric, prospective, observational study performed in the Haykel Hospital between June 2016 and December 2020. Twenty-one women with caesarean scar pregnancy underwent a transcutaneous ultrasound-guided direct injection of MTX into the gestational sac in an outpatient setting.

Application of Deep Learning Model in the Sonographic Diagnosis of Uterine Adenomyosis.

Background: This study aims to evaluate the diagnostic performance of Deep Learning (DL) machine for the detection of adenomyosis on uterine ultrasonographic images and compare it to intermediate ultrasound skilled trainees.

Methods: Prospective observational study were conducted between 1 and 30 April 2022. Transvaginal ultrasound (TVUS) diagnosis of adenomyosis was investigated by an experienced sonographer on 100 fertile-age patients.

Effect of SARS-CoV-2 infection in pregnancy on CD147, ACE2 and HLA-G expression.

Introduction: Recent studies reported a differential expression of both ACE2 and CD147 in pregnant women associated to SARS-CoV-2 placental infection. The aim of this study is to further investigate the placental SARS-CoV-2 infection and the potential effect on protein expression (ACE2, CD147, HLA-G and CD56).

Methods: The study was on three subgroups: i) 18 subjects positive for SARS-CoV-2 swab at delivery; ii) 9 subjects that had a positive SARS-CoV-2 swab during pregnancy but resulted negative at delivery; iii) 11 control subjects with physiological pregnancy and with no previous or concomitant SARS-CoV-2 swab positivity.
