Microdissection testicular sperm extraction (mTESE) has been proposed as a salvage treatment option for men with a previously failed classic TESE (cTESE), but data are scarce. We aimed to assess the outcome of and potential predictors of successful salvage mTESE in a cohort of men previously submitted to unfruitful cTESE. Data from 61 men who underwent mTESE after a failed cTESE between 01/2014 and 10/2020, at 6 tertiary-referral centres in Italy were analysed.

The aim of this brief report is to offer a solution for a problem that compromises the quality of -produced mammalian embryos. The harmful effects of evaporation-induced osmotic changes in mammalian embryo cultures have been recognized only recently. In this technical report, we describe a modified embryo culture dish (Humdish) that provides consistent >97% humidity and fully eliminates osmotic changes in the commonly used drop-under-oil culture systems from day 0 to 6.

Although in vitro culture of human embryos is a crucial step in assisted reproduction, the lack of focused research hampers worldwide standardisation and consistent outcomes. Only 1.2% of research papers published in five leading journals in human reproduction in 2019 focused on in vitro culture conditions, creating the impression that the optimisation process has approached its limits.

Purpose: To investigate the clinical efficacy of a "Universal Warming" protocol, based on subsequent steps with 1 M and 0.5 M concentration of extracellular cryoprotectant (ECCP), on shipped oocytes. Oocytes are vitrified using different brands of ready-to-use kits which recommend that the use of their own warming kit and combining different vitrification/warming kits may have legal consequences for assisted reproductive (AR) centers, until this practice has been validated with clinical studies.

Background: In the absence of international guidelines indicating the usage of vitrification rather than slow-freezing, the study aim was to analyze a large cohort of slow-frozen/thawed embryos to produce a rationale supporting the standardization of IVF cryopreservation policy.
Methods: This retrospective analysis included 4779 cleavage stage embryos cryopreserved by slow-freezing/thawing from September 2009 to April 2017 at a single Center. Biological and clinical outcomes of three different commercial kits adopted sequentially, i.

Millions of human oocytes and embryos are stored in thousands of locations across the globe. This inventory continues to grow as cryopreservation becomes more successful and more widely applied. The results of studies assessing pregnancy and neonatal outcomes following frozen embryo transfer (FET) have been encouraging, showing lower incidences of small for gestational age neonates and preterm birth compared with fresh transfers.

Purpose: To study the efficacy and efficiency of a "universal warming protocol" for vitrified human embryos, based on subsequent steps with 1 and 0.5 M concentration of extracellular cryoprotectant (ECCP).
Method: Two studies on patients undergoing fertility treatments via ICSI: a prospective randomized controlled trial (RCT) and a retrospective cohort study (CS).

Study Question: Can traceability of gametes and embryos be ensured during IVF?
Summary Answer: The use of a simple and comprehensive traceability system that includes the most susceptible phases during the IVF process minimizes the risk of mismatches.
What Is Known Already: Mismatches in IVF are very rare but unfortunately possible with dramatic consequences for both patients and health care professionals. Traceability is thus a fundamental aspect of the treatment.

Objectives: To compare the efficiency of electronic spatiotemporal image correlation (eSTIC) with that of conventional STIC to acquire four-dimensional (4D) fetal cardiac volumes of diagnostic quality.
Methods: This was a randomized controlled trial of 100 patients in mid-gestation with normal sonograms. In half of the cases, STIC volumes of the fetal heart were obtained with a conventional mechanical 4D probe and in the remaining cases eSTIC volumes were obtained with an electronic 4D probe.

Nowadays, human oocytes/embryos are cryopreserved via slow freezing or vitrification. The aim of this study was to evaluate a rapid warming protocol for slow-frozen human oocytes based on the standard warming procedure for vitrification. This was a prospective study on 216 sibling oocytes randomized for either conventional rapid thawing or rapid warming with vitrification warming solution.

The selection of spermatozoa without DNA fragmentation and chromosomal diseases prior to assisted reproductive techniques helps to optimize the outcome of the treatment; in particular, sperm selection prior to in vitro fertilization (IVF) or intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI) is crucial. In fact, although ICSI has been successfully and safely applied worldwide for almost 20 years, at the present time we have no real knowledge regarding the hypothetical long-term side effects on ICSI adults, given the increased likelihood of spermatozoa with defective nuclear content fertilizing oocytes. In the case of DNA damage, the basal sperm DNA fragmentation rate can be significantly reduced by some sperm processing procedures that improve the percentage of spermatozoa with normal chromatin structure by filtering out DNA-damaged spermatozoa.

The present study reports, as far as is known for the first time, the safety of UV sterilization of liquid nitrogen and hermetical cryostorage of human oocytes by comparing the efficiency of fresh and vitrified sibling oocytes of infertile patients. A prospective randomized study on sibling oocytes of 31 patients was carried out. Metaphase-II oocytes were randomized for intracytoplasmic sperm injection and the supernumerary sibling oocytes were vitrified using a novel Cryotop aseptic procedure (UV liquid nitrogen sterilization and hermetical cryostorage).
