: The anterolateral bowing of the femur shows differences between races and has recently caused many clinical problems. Asians tend to have increased femoral bowing, but there is a lack of large-scale studies. We aim to identify the patterns of femoral bowing in the Korean population through comprehensive analysis and address its clinical implications.

Study Protocol of the Korean EGFR Registry: A Multicenter Prospective and Retrospective Cohort Study in Nonsmall Cell Lung Cancer Patients With EGFR Mutation.

Introduction: The provision of treatment for epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR)-mutated nonsmall cell lung cancer (NSCLC) patients has increased in Korea. However, multicenter studies on the clinicopathologic dataset and treatment outcomes, using a large-scale dataset, have not been conducted. The current study is a prospective and retrospective multicenter observational cohort study that registers all stages of EGFR-mutated NSCLC patients.

Clinical Features of Impacted Common Bile Duct Stones at Duodenal Papilla.

Background/aims: Urgent endoscopic removal is required for gallstones impacted at the duodenal papilla. This study compared the clinical features of impacted papillary stones (IPS) with those of common bile duct stones without impaction.

Methods: This study analyzed a common bile duct stone database from 2017 to 2023, identifying patients with IPS.

Dorsolateral pontine lesions produce distinct ocular motor abnormalities with anatomical correlations.

Background And Purpose: The dorsolateral portion of the caudal pons contains the vestibular nucleus (VN) and inferior cerebellar peduncle (ICP) that play important roles in conveying and processing vestibular and ocular motor signals. This study aimed to characterize ocular motor abnormalities along with their anatomical correlations in dorsolateral pons (DLP) lesions.

Methods: We analyzed clinical features, and results of neuro-otological evaluations and neuroimaging of 18 patients with unilateral DLP lesions (17 with DLP infarction and 1 with cavernous malformation) from among 506 patients with pontine infarction in a stroke registry.

Quality of life outcomes in terminal cancer patients attending regional cancer centers in South Korea: protocol for a prospective cohort study.

Introduction: Patients with cancer experience physical, mental, and social pain that affects themselves and their families. The increasing cancer incidence and advances in treatment have increased the number of cancer survivors in Korea, and there is an influx of patients in Seoul and other metropolitan areas, leading to shortages of continuous care and comprehensive life support facilities. Patients must travel long distances for treatment, which poses logistical and quality-of-life challenges.

There are no reports comparing diet recovery between patients who underwent distal gastrectomy (DG) and those who underwent total gastrectomy (TG). The aim of the present study was to compare dietary habits and nutritional status after curative treatment with DG and TG in patients with gastric cancer. We retrospectively collected clinical data from 263 consecutive patients who underwent gastrectomy for gastric cancer without recurrence at a single-center between January 2016 and December 2022.

Association Between Higher Body Mass Index and the Risk of Lumbar Spinal Stenosis in Korean Populations: A Nationwide Cohort Study.

Despite the increasing prevalence of both spinal stenosis and obesity, their association remains controversial. This study aimed to investigate the relationship between body mass index (BMI) and the risk of lumbar spinal stenosis in the Korean population using nationwide data. We analyzed data from 2,161,684 adults aged ≥40 years who underwent health examinations in 2009 using the Korean National Health Insurance System database.

Mixed Pancreatobiliary Ductal Adenocarcinoma and Squamous Cell Carcinoma Arising from an Ectopic Pancreas in a Gastric Duplication Cyst-A Rare Double Diagnosis.

Gastric duplication cysts (GDCs) are rare congenital anomalies, often identified during infancy or childhood. Although typically benign, there have been sporadic reports of malignant transformations, including adenocarcinoma and rare mixed tumors. Herein, we describe a rare case of mixed pancreatobiliary ductal adenocarcinoma and squamous cell carcinoma occurring within a GDC in a 54-year-old Korean woman with a history of melena and hematemesis.

Optimal Long-term Antiplatelet Regimen for Patients with High Ischaemic and Bleeding Risks After Percutaneous Coronary Intervention.

Aim To assess an optimal long-term antiplatelet strategy in patients at both high ischaemic and bleeding risks after percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI). Methods and results Patients both at high ischaemic and bleeding risks were eligible for inclusion. We excluded patients with any ischaemic and major bleeding complications during the mandatory period of dual antiplatelet therapy (DAPT).

Clinical feasibility of a deep learning approach for conventional and synthetic diffusion-weighted imaging in breast cancer: Qualitative and quantitative analyses.

Purpose: In this study, we aimed to investigate the clinical feasibility of deep learning (DL)-based reconstruction applied to conventional diffusion-weighted imaging (cDWI) and synthetic diffusion-weighted imaging (sDWI) by comparing the DL reconstructions to cDWIs and sDWIs in patients with various breast malignancies.

Methods: We retrospectively analyzed 115 patients with biopsy-proven breast malignancies who underwent breast magnetic resonance imaging from July 2022 to June 2023, including cDWI with b-value of 800 s/mm (cDWI) sDWI with b-value of 1500 s/mm (sDWI), DWI using DL-based reconstruction (DL-DWI) with b-value of 800 s/mm, and synthetic DL-DWI with b-value of 1500 s/mm (DL-DWI and sDL-DWI). Two radiologists independently performed the qualitative analyses using a 5-point Likert scale for all DWI sets.

Seizure recurrence proportion under antiseizure medication in people living with epilepsy and prolonged seizure remission: A systematic review.

Background And Purpose: People living with epilepsy (PLWE) may wish to discontinue antiseizure medications (ASMs) after long-term remission. However, fear of relapse may lead to continued ASM use. Previous studies have focused on seizure relapse in PLWE who discontinued ASMs after long-term seizure remission (PLWE off ASM), with limited data on those who continued ASMs (PLWE on ASM).

The association between pancreatic exocrine insufficiency (PEI) and morphologic findings in chronic pancreatitis has not yet been fully studied. Thus, the aim of this study was to investigate the correlation between PEI severity and computed tomography (CT)-based morphological severity in patients with chronic pancreatitis. Diagnostic performance of procalcitonin for bacterial infection in severe alcoholic hepatitis compared with C-reactive protein.

Background: Severe alcoholic hepatitis is a catastrophic disease with a mortality rate of up to 35-50% at 30 days. Bacterial infection is an important prognostic factor in patients with severe alcoholic hepatitis, but it is difficult to detect the presence of infection immediately. Procalcitonin (PCT) is a well-known inflammatory marker that can detect bacterial infections in various diseases early.

Cardiac arrest after spinal anesthesia.

This letter addresses potential cardiovascular changes following spinal anesthesia. High spinal anesthesia with a T4 sensory blockade can lead to decreased venous return, reduced right atrial pressure, and bradycardia. These effects result from diminished sympathetic activity, increased parasympathetic activity, and inhibition of cardiac accelerator fibers.

Background: Subscapularis tendon (SSC) tears have recently become an area of current research focus. However, the risk factors for atraumatic isolated SSC tears, particularly anatomical factors, remain poorly determined. The peristaltic reflex has been a central concept in gastrointestinal motility; however, evidence was published recently suggesting that post-stimulus responses that follow inhibitory neural responses provide the main propulsive force in colonic motility. This new concept was based on experiments on proximal colon where enteric inhibitory neural inputs are mainly nitrergic. However, the nature of inhibitory neural inputs changes from proximal to distal colon where purinergic inhibitory regulation dominates.

Clinical usability and efficacy of a robotic bone fracture reduction system: A pilot animal study.

Challenges in minimally invasive surgeries, such as intramedullary nailing for long bone fractures, include radiation overexposure for patients and surgeons, potential malreduction, and physical burden on surgeons in maintaining the reduction status. A robotic bone fracture reduction system was developed in this study to address these problems. The system consists of a hexapod with six degrees of freedom, with a fracture reduction device and a master device.

Clinical Experiences Using CyberKnife for Large-Volume Meningiomas: A Preliminary Study.

Background: This preliminary study evaluates the safety and efficacy of CyberKnife radiosurgery (CKRS) for large-volume meningiomas (≥10 cm³), where surgical options may be limited due to tumor location or patient health conditions.

Methods: We retrospectively analyzed 18 patients with meningiomas treated with CKRS at Gyeongsang National University Hospital between 2010 and 2020. Tumor control and survival rates were evaluated, with follow-up imaging performed regularly.

Identification of Correlation Between Frailty and Lower Urinary Tract Symptoms in Elderly Male Using Korean-FRAIL Scale.

Purpose: The K-FRAIL scale is a Korean version of the aging questionnaire that allows screening and diagnosis of easily observable aging in the elderly through a simple self-answer questionnaire. The objective of this study was to examine the relation between fraility and clinical symptoms of the lower urinary tract in elderly men using the K-FRAIL scale.

Materials And Methods: A prospective study was conducted on 100 patients who underwent urological examination at our hospital from January 2021 to December 2021.

Development of the Diagnostic Matrix of the Seoul Cognitive Status Test, Compared to Traditional Paper-and-Pencil Neuropsychological Tests.

Background And Purpose: We aimed to develop the diagnostic matrix of the Seoul Cognitive Status Test (SCST) and compare its performance with traditional paper-and-pencil neuropsychological tests, including the Seoul Neuropsychological Screening Battery-II (SNSB-II) and the Korean version of the Consortium to Establish a Registry for Alzheimer's Disease (CERAD-K).

Methods: We recruited 197 participants from the head-to-head SCST-SNSB cohort, and 204 participants from the head-to-head SCST-CERAD cohort. They underwent either SNSB-II or CERAD-K, in addition to SCST.
