Objectives: Metabolically-active brown adipose tissue (aBAT) is a common finding on fluorodeoxyglucose positron emission tomography (FDG-PET) imaging in patients with pheochromocytoma or paraganglioma (PPGL). In addition to its clinical significance, we aimed to explore the prevalence of this finding on FDG-PET imaging in patients with PPGL.
Methods: We conducted a systematic review and meta-analysis of prospective and retrospective studies.

Purpose: To evaluate the survival benefit of chemotherapy intensification in older patients with AML who have not achieved a measurable residual disease (MRD)-negative remission.
Methods: Five hundred twenty-three patients with AML (median age, 67 years; range, 51-79) without a flow cytometric MRD-negative remission response after a first course of daunorubicin and AraC (DA; including 165 not in remission) were randomly assigned between up to two further courses of DA or intensified chemotherapy-either fludarabine, cytarabine, granulocyte colony-stimulating factor and idarubicin (FLAG-Ida) or DA with cladribine (DAC).
Results: Overall survival (OS) was not improved in the intensification arms (DAC DA: hazard ratio [HR], 0.

Over the course of the COVID-19 pandemic, variants have emerged with increased mutations and immune evasive capabilities. This has led to breakthrough infections (BTI) in vaccinated individuals, with a large proportion of the neutralizing antibody response targeting the receptor binding domain (RBD) of the SARS-CoV-2 Spike glycoprotein. Immune imprinting, where prior exposure of the immune system to an antigen can influence the response to subsequent exposures, and its role in a population with heterogenous exposure histories has important implications in future vaccine design.

Familial chylomicronaemia syndrome (FCS) is a rare genetic disorder characterised by significantly elevated triglyceride levels which increases the risk of acute pancreatitis. Due to the changes in lipid metabolism during pregnancy, triglyceride levels may rise further, particularly in the third trimester, and cause challenges in the management of these patients. Apart from strict dietary restriction of all fats, there is limited evidence on the efficacy of pharmacological treatment with omega-3 fatty acids and fibrates in maintaining triglyceride levels below the desired threshold of 10 mmol/L.

The application of nanotechnology to health has been one of the revolutionizing factors in the field of trauma and orthopaedic surgery over the last decade. Advances in nanomedicine, in comparison to conventional modes of treatment, have influenced immensely the approach towards trauma and orthopaedic surgery and provided some unique answers to some very complex problems like bone reconstruction, soft tissue repair, and prevention of infection. The current narrative review intends to underpin an extensive analysis of modern applications and recent advances in nanotechnology-driven therapies in orthopaedics.

Background: Acute infectious purpura fulminans (AIPF) is a rare but potentially fatal postoperative complication characterised by rapidly progressing disseminated intravascular coagulation (DIC), widespread purpura, and multi-organ dysfunction. Despite its severe and critical outcomes, the literature on this condition in the postoperative context is limited.
Objectives: This study aimed to analyse and evaluate the incidence, clinical presentation, laboratory findings, management strategies, and outcomes of postoperative AIPF in patients who underwent various surgical procedures.

Carcinoid heart disease is an important complication of neuroendocrine tumors that may lead to significant morbidity and mortality. Right-sided heart valve involvement with consequent valve dysfunction is one of the common manifestations. Patients often have multiple, significant comorbidities with advanced metastatic disease and, as such, may not be suitable for surgical valve replacement due to excessive risk.

Whilst SARS-CoV-2 mRNA vaccines generate high neutralising antibodies (nAb) in most individuals, haematopoietic stem cell transplant (HSCT) and chimeric antigen receptor T-cell (CAR-T) recipients respond poorly. HSCT/CAR-T treatment ablates existing immune memory, with recipients requiring revaccination analogous to being vaccine naive. An optimal revaccination strategy for this cohort has not been defined.

Background: Suprascapular neurodynamic tests are used to clinically test for suprascapular nerve mechanosensitivity. Various tests described in the literature are proposed to induce suprascapular nerve mechanical strain but their potential effects on nerve strain have not been established.
Methods: This observational cadaveric study used biomechanical measurements to evaluate and compare the strain undergone by the suprascapular nerve during five different neurodynamic positions: (1) Cervical contralateral rotation and scapular retraction; (2) Cervical contralateral sidebending + shoulder girdle depression; (3) Shoulder girdle depression, retraction, posterior tilt and downward rotation; (4) Position 3 + contralateral cervical sidebending; and (5) Scapular protraction + Cervical contralateral sidebending (protraction sidebending test).

Cardiogenic shock is a complex syndrome defined by systemic hypoperfusion and inadequate cardiac output arising from a wide array of underlying causes. Although the understanding of cardiogenic shock epidemiology, specific subphenotypes, haemodynamics, and cardiogenic shock severity staging has evolved, few therapeutic interventions have shown survival benefit. Results from seminal randomised controlled trials support early revascularisation of the culprit vessel in infarct-related cardiogenic shock and provide evidence of improved survival with the use of temporary circulatory support in selected patients.

Background: More patients with moderate-to-severe plaque psoriasis achieved responses with JNJ-77242113, a targeted oral peptide inhibiting interleukin-23 receptor signaling, versus placebo (PBO) at week (W)16 of the phase 2 FRONTIER-1 study.
Objective: FRONTIER-2, a long-term extension of FRONTIER-1, evaluated JNJ-77242113 through 1 year.
Methods: FRONTIER-1 participants received JNJ-77242113 at doses from 25 mg daily to 100 mg twice daily or PBO through W16.

Purpose: We aim to determine the current treatment patterns and recommendations among physicians for cutaneous lymphomas and to identify the types of skin lymphomas for which existing radiation regimens need improvement.
Methods And Materials: A questionnaire from the European Organisation for Research and Treatment of Cancer was distributed to all members of the Cutaneous Lymphoma Tumour Group and Radiation Oncology Scientific Council. This online survey included 13 questions regarding treatment practices for patients with cutaneous lymphoma.

Background: The risk-benefit balance of statin use in healthy older people is uncertain. We describe the baseline characteristics of the STAREE (Statins in Reducing Events in the Elderly) trial, which is a randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial among community-dwelling older people; the trial evaluated the effect of atorvastatin 40 mg for the prevention of major cardiovascular events (cardiovascular death, nonfatal myocardial infarction or stroke), and on disability-free survival (survival free of both dementia and persistent physical disability).
Methods And Results: STAREE enrolled people aged ≥70 years from 1583 general practices across Australia with no history of clinical cardiovascular disease, diabetes, or dementia.

Evidence shows that the majority of OMFS trainees undertook dentistry as their first degree, however, an increasing number of undergraduates undertaking OMFS training have completed medicine first. It is vital that all undergraduates wanting to commit to another degree have adequate exposure to, and understanding of, the specialty. The aim of our study was to evaluate the perspectives of final-year dental students concerning their exposure to, and perceptions of, OMFS during their undergraduate teaching.
