Recently, there has been a great interest in the development of innovative wound dressing materials based on natural bioactives, as they can accelerate the healing process and address the issues related to traditional wound dressings. Children with overweight or obesity are at risk of experiencing perioperative complications during general anaesthesia (GA). At Guy's and St Thomas' NHS Foundation Trust in London, children who require dental surgery under GA are placed on a waiting list for the Dental Day Surgery Unit (DDSU) or the Evelina London Children's Hospital (ELCH), which has inpatient beds and a paediatric intensive care unit, depending on their body mass index (BMI) and centile thresholds. The waiting list for the ELCH is longer than for the DDSU.

A toddler presented to audiovestibular medicine with mild bilateral, sensorineural hearing loss identified via the Newborn Hearing Screening Programme. This report focuses on the early clinical assessment and aetiological investigation which prompted testing for metabolic disease and highlights the parents' perspective. Early investigation led to a relatively early diagnosis of mucopolysaccharidosis (MPS) type IIIA: Sanfilippo disease which enabled the family to access a novel treatment option which otherwise would not have been possible.

Neurons in the central nervous system (CNS) lose regenerative potential with maturity, leading to minimal corticospinal tract (CST) axon regrowth after spinal cord injury (SCI). In young rodents, knockdown of PTEN, which antagonises PI3K signalling by hydrolysing PIP3, promotes axon regeneration following SCI. However, this effect diminishes in adults, potentially due to lower PI3K activation leading to reduced PIP3.

Few metrics exist to describe phenotypic diversity within ophthalmic imaging datasets, with researchers often using ethnicity as a surrogate marker for biological variability. We derived a continuous, measured metric, the retinal pigment score (RPS), that quantifies the degree of pigmentation from a colour fundus photograph of the eye. RPS was validated using two large epidemiological studies with demographic and genetic data (UK Biobank and EPIC-Norfolk Study) and reproduced in a Tanzanian, an Australian, and a Chinese dataset.

Background: ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI) is treated with immediate primary percutaneous coronary intervention (pPCI) to restore coronary blood flow in the acutely ischaemic territory, but is associated with reperfusion injury limiting the benefit of the therapy. No treatment has proven effective in reducing reperfusion injury. Transcoronary hypothermia has been tested in clinical studies and is well tolerated, but is generally established after crossing the occlusion with a guidewire therefore after initial reperfusion, which might have contributed to the neutral outcomes.

Background: We sought consensus among practising respiratory physicians on the prediction, identification and monitoring of progression in patients with fibrosing interstitial lung disease (ILD) using a modified Delphi process.
