Bacteria emit a large number of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) into the environment. VOCs are species-specific and their emission depends on environmental conditions, such as growth medium, pH, temperature, incubation time and interaction with other microorganisms. These VOCs can enhance plant growth, suppress pathogens and act as signaling molecules during plant-microorganism interactions.

Sesamol (SES) possesses remarkable chemotherapeutic activity, owing to its anti-inflammatory and antioxidant potential. However, the activity of SES is mainly hampered by its poor physicochemical properties and stability issues. Hence, to improve the efficacy of this natural anti-inflammatory and cytotoxic agent, it was loaded into β-cyclodextrin nanosponges (NS) prepared using different molar ratios of polymer and crosslinker (diphenyl carbonate).

A new series of (E)-2-(3-(substitutedstyryl)-5-(substitutedphenyl)-4,5-dihydropyrazol-1-yl)benzo[d]thiazole derivatives was synthesized and the chemical structures of synthesized compounds were deduced by IR and NMR spectral tools. These compounds were synthesized via aldol condensation reaction of substituted benzaldehydes and acetone in alkaline ethanolic solution and their in vitro anti-oxidant, anti-inflammatory and antimicrobial activities were investigated. All the synthesized compounds displayed anti-oxidant potential with IC values ranging from 0.

For tissue engineering applications, cell adhesion and proliferation are crucial factors, and blending polymers is one of the most effective ways to create a biocompatible scaffold with desired properties. In order to create new potential porous, biodegradable scaffolds using salt leaching technique, poly(3-hydroxybutyrate) (PHB) and poly(3-hydroxybutyrate-co-3-hydroxyvalerate) (PHBV) were blended in different ratios. SEM, BET, FTIR, and water contact angle measurements were used to analyze the scaffolds' porous surface, surface area, and roughness, chemical interaction, and hydrophilicity.

Targeting of major nematode parasitism genes Host Delivered-RNAi (HD-RNAi) to confer silencing is established as one of the most effective approaches to curb nematode infection. Utilizing nematode-responsive root-specific (NRRS) promoters to design a dsRNA molecule targeting approach to hamper nematode parasitism.

In the chemical industry, designing high-performance catalysts for the oxidation of cyclohexane into value-added products such as cyclohexanol and cyclohexanone (the combination is known as KA oil) is critical. The catalytic activity of copper nanoparticles supported on layered double hydroxide (LDH) for the liquid phase oxidation of cyclohexane was examined in this study. In this work, we have developed Cu nanoparticles supported on layered double hydroxide nanocatalysts, abbreviated as CuNPs@LDH, by the chemical reduction approach.

Anti-inflammatory therapies currently in use mainly include steroidal and non-steroidal drugs. Contrary to their side effects, the steroid hormones glucocorticoids, which are synthetic versions of natural cortisol, are nevertheless often employed to treat a variety of inflammatory disorders. Other drug class of choice is non-steroidal drugs which mainly target COX-2 and hence the synthesis of prostaglandins, particularly PGE2.

The unique structural components of cell membranes of Gram-positive bacteria, Gram-negative bacteria, and mycobacteria provide an excellent therapeutic target for developing highly specific antimicrobials. Here, we report the synthesis of nine cholic acid (CA)-derived amphiphiles, where three hydroxyl groups of CA were tethered to dimethylamino pyridine and the C24-carboxyl group was conjugated with different alkyl chains. Structure-activity investigations revealed that amphiphile harboring a methyl group has antimicrobial activity against mycobacterial species.

Rho-associated coiled-coil containing protein kinase 1 (ROCK1) intracellular cell signaling pathway regulates cell morphology, polarity, and cytoskeletal remodeling. We observed the activation of ROCK1/myosin light chain (MLC2) signaling pathway in buffalopox virus (BPXV) infected Vero cells. ROCK1 depletion by siRNA and specific small molecule chemical inhibitors (Thiazovivin and Y27632) resulted in a reduced BPXV replication, as evidenced by reductions in viral mRNA/protein synthesis, genome copy numbers and progeny virus particles.

The electronic and optical properties of graphene quantum dots (GQDs) of size less than 10 nm are different from those of graphene sheets due to quantum confinement effects. For analyzing their use in optoelectronic applications, it is very crucial to optimally tune the bandgap and engineer the controlling parameters. In the present work, a systematic investigation of the band gap of hexagonal GQDs has been carried out by examining their HOMO and LUMO energies.

Milk and milk products, meat, fish and poultry as well as other animal derived foods occupy a pronounced position in human nutrition. Unfortunately, fraud in the food industry is common, resulting in negative economic consequences for customers as well as significant threats to human health and the external environment. As a result, it is critical to develop analytical tools that can quickly detect fraud and validate the authenticity of such products.

Proinflammatory cytokines such as Tumor Necrosis Factor-α (TNF-α) are critical mediators of inflammatory bowel disease pathogenesis, and are important targets to restore intestinal homeostasis. Herein, we present the engineering and screening of gemini lipid nanoparticles (GLNPs) for siRNA delivery to colon epithelial cells, macrophages and dendritic cells, and their ability to deliver siRNA therapeutics to the inflamed gastrointestinal tract. We synthesized eight gemini cationic lipids by tethering two lithocholic acid molecules through 3'-hydroxyl- and 24'-carboxyl-derived ammonium groups using different polyalkylene spacers.

Monoamine oxidase enzyme is necessary for the management of brain functions. It oxidatively metabolizes monoamines and produces ammonia, aldehyde and hydrogen peroxide as by-products. Excessive production of by-products of monoamine metabolism generates free radicals which cause cellular apoptosis and several neurodegenerative disorders for example Alzheimer's disease, Parkinson's disease, depression and autism.
