Article Synopsis
  • A study analyzed HPV genotypes in 63 cases of vaginal squamous intraepithelial neoplasia (VaIN) and 7 cases of vaginal squamous cell carcinoma (VaSCC), revealing that HPV prevalence was high, with 91.2% in VaIN tissue.
  • The research highlighted significant differences in HPV types found in scraped cell samples versus the actual tissues, showing that a large portion of high-risk HPV types were missed in tissue analysis.
  • Findings suggest that VaIN and cervical lesions can develop independently from one another, with the vagina serving as a reservoir for various HPV types, particularly high-risk types that contribute to vaginal cancers.

Favipiravir was initially developed as an antiviral drug against influenza and is currently used in clinical trials against severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus-2 (SARS-CoV-2) infection (COVID-19). This agent is presumably involved in RNA chain termination during influenza virus replication, although the molecular interactions underlying its potential impact on the coronaviruses including SARS-CoV-2, SARS-CoV, and Middle East respiratory syndrome coronavirus (MERS-CoV) remain unclear. We performed in silico studies to elucidate detailed molecular interactions between favipiravir and the SARS-CoV-2, SARS-CoV, MERS-CoV, and influenza virus RNA-dependent RNA polymerases (RdRp).

Background: Besides research on psychiatric diseases related to problematic Internet use (PIU), a growing number of studies focus on the impact of Internet on subjective well-being (SWB). However, in previous studies on the relationship between PIU and SWB, there is little data for Japanese people specifically, and there is a lack of consideration for differences in perception of happiness due to cultural differences. Therefore, we aimed to clarify how happiness is interdependent on PIU measures, with a focus on how the concept of happiness is interpreted among Japanese people, and specifically among Japanese university students.

To elucidate oncogenic human papilloma virus (HPV) types in Japan, HPV genotyping was performed in 1526 cervical intraepithelial neoplasia (CIN) and 371 invasive cervical cancer (ICC) patients with the novel Genosearch-31+5 HPV test. The HPV-positive rates were 89.3% and 90.

The platelet activation receptor C-type lectin-like receptor 2 (CLEC-2) interacts with podoplanin on the surface of certain types of tumor cells, and this interaction facilitates tumor metastasis. CLEC-2 is also involved in thrombus formation and its stabilization. Because CLEC-2-depleted mice are protected from experimental lung metastasis and thrombus formation and do not show increased bleeding time, CLEC-2 may serve as a good target for antimetastatic or antithrombotic drugs.

We have developed a new human papillomavirus (HPV) assay using the uniplex E6/E7 polymerase chain reaction (PCR) method, which is able to detect E6 and E7 genes in 39 HPV types. We validated the assay for sensitivity and specificity using cloned HPV DNA and clinical samples. A comparative study using Genosearch-31 (GS-31) to determine HPV genotypes in clinical samples was also performed.
