Biochar application to soil has proven to be an excellent approach for decreasing the concentration of auto-toxic compounds and promoting plant growth in continuous-cropping fields. However, the mechanisms underlying the action pathway among biochars, auto-toxic compounds and tobacco remain unknown. In this study, we conducted an experiment tracking the incidence rate of black rot and auto-toxic compounds for a 3-year continuous-cropping tobacco pot trial in response to biochar treatment intensity compared with that of non-biochar treatment.

Rice bacterial leaf blight and rice bacterial leaf streak have induced tremendous damage to production of rice worldwide. To discover an effective novel antibacterial agent, a series of novel -resveratrol (RSV) derivatives containing 1,3,4-oxadiazole and amide moieties were designed and synthesized for the first time. Most of them showed excellent antibacterial activities against pv and pv .

Early spring cold spells can lead to leaf chlorosis during the rice seedling greening process. However, the physiological and molecular mechanisms underlying the rice greening process under low-temperature conditions remain unknown. In this study, comparative transcriptome and morphophysiological analyses were performed to investigate the mechanisms mediating the responses of the Koshihikari (Kos) and Kasalath (Kas) rice cultivars to chilling stress.

Benzoxazole and benzothiazole have a broad spectrum of agricultural biological activities, such as antibacterial, antiviral, and herbicidal activities, which are important fused heterocyclic scaffold structures in agrochemical discovery. In recent years, great progress has been made in the research of benzoxazoles and benzothiazoles, especially in the development of herbicides and insecticides. With the widespread use of benzoxazoles and benzothiazoles, there may be more new products containing benzoxazoles and benzothiazoles in the future.

Rice bacterial diseases seriously threaten the development of rice industry in the world, and chemical control is still one of the effective means to control it. To find novel antibacterial agents, 42 resveratrol derivatives were designed and synthesized based on natural product resveratrol as lead structure, and their antibacterial activities were evaluated. Most compounds have excellent antibacterial activities.

Background: At the seed germination stage, rice is sensitive to cold stress, which adversely affects its growth and development. Guizhou HE rice comprises several different landraces, most of which are cold tolerant.
Objective: To identify differentially expressed genes and molecular mechanism underlying the cold tolerance of Guizhou HE.

Plant virus diseases, also known as "plant cancers", cause serious harm to the agriculture of the world and huge economic losses every year. Antiviral agents are one of the most effective ways to control plant virus diseases. Ningnanmycin is currently the most successful anti-plant virus agent, but its field control effect is not ideal due to its instability.

Two japonica rice cultivars with different panicle trait index (PTI), HP917 (a high-PTI cultivar) and DP128 (a low-PTI cultivar) were used to investigate the effects of the nitrogen (N) rate and plant density on the grain distribution of secondary branches on the panicle axis, leaf photosynthetic characteristics, and grain yield by a split plot design. The main plots were assigned to four N rates (0, 140, 200, and 260 kg ha), and the subplots were assigned to two plant densities: (D, 15 plants m; D, 30 plants m). Results showed that the grain yield was increased by increasing N rate and plant density, reaching a peak at N with D.

We studied the effects of leaf surface characteristics on canopy droplet behaviour using two rice cultivars with similar leaf shapes but significantly different leaf surface characteristics: Jia58 (glabrous rice; smooth leaf surface and no burrs) and Yongyou12 (hairy-leaved rice; rough leaf surface covered with burrs). The plants were subjected to spray tests with different spray pressures and nozzle apertures. The results showed that the deposition amount per unit leaf area was significantly higher in the Yongyou12 canopy than in the Jia58 canopy.

Heading date is a critical trait that determines the regional adaptability and grain productivity of many crops. Although rice is a facultative short-day plant, its domestication led to the Ghd7-Ehd1-Hd3a/RFT1 pathway for adaptation to long-day conditions (LDs). The formation of the "florigen activation complex" (FAC) containing florigen Hd3a has been characterized.

Starch synthesized and stored in amyloplasts serves as the major energy storage molecule in cereal endosperm. To elucidate the molecular mechanisms underlying amyloplast development and starch synthesis, we isolated a series of floury endosperm mutants in rice (). We identified the rice mutant (), which exhibited obvious defects in the development of compound starch grains, decreased starch content, and altered starch physicochemical features.
