Background And Aims: The tumor microenvironment (TME) exerts an important role in carcinogenesis and progression. Several investigations have suggested that immune cell infiltration (ICI) is of high prognostic importance for tumor progression and patient survival in many tumors, particularly prostate cancer. The pattern of immune infiltration of PCa, on the other hand, has not been thoroughly understood.

This study aimed to assess the current status and changing trends of the disease burden of stroke and its subtypes due to low dietary fiber intake in China from 1990 to 2019. In cases of stroke and its subtypes attributable to low dietary fiber, deaths, disability-adjusted life-years (DALYs), age-standardized mortality rates (ASMR), age-standardized DALYs rates (ASDR), and percentage change were used to assess disease burden. Data were obtained from the 2019 global burden of disease study.

Background: Deafness autosomal dominant 2A (DFNA2A) is related to non-syndromic genetic hearing impairment. The KCNQ4 (Potassium Voltage-Gated Channel Subfamily Q Member 4) can lead to DFNA2A. In this study, we report a case of autosomal dominant non-syndromic hearing loss with six family members as caused by a novel variant in the KCNQ4 gene.

Purpose: To investigate the effect of reducing Lysyl oxidase (LOX) overexpression on retinal ganglion cells (RGCs) apoptosis in an acute ocular hypertension (AOH) rat model.
Methods: AOH rat model was performed by anterior chamber perfusion and either received an intravitreal injection with β-aminopropionitrile (BAPN) or normal saline. After 2wk, Quantification of survival RGCs in the retina was performed using Retrograde FluoroGold labeling.

Cisplatin resistance is a major challenge for systemic therapy against advanced bladder cancer (BC). Little information is available on the regulation of cisplatin resistance and the underlying mechanisms require elucidation. Here, we detected that downregulation of the tumor suppressor, PPP2R2B (a serine/threonine protein phosphatase 2 A regulatory subunit), in BC promoted cell proliferation and migration.

Introduction: Subglottic stenosis, manifested by granulation tissue hyperplasia, is challenging and requires multiple repeated treatments and stent maintenance at times. Corticosteroids prevent severe subglottic stenosis development owing to their antifibrotic and anti-inflammatory properties. Submucosal injection of glucocorticoids, a useful adjuvant therapeutic method, improves the mean interval between endoscopic procedures and reduces airway restenosis risks.

Although fangchinoline has been widely used as an adjunct therapy for a variety of inflammatory and cancerous diseases, its mechanism of action on tumor cells remains unclear. Fangchinoline derivative LYY-35 reduced the number of A549 cells, deformed cell morphology and increased cell debris. Cell viability was significantly reduced, while the same concentration of LYY-35 had little effect on BEAS-2B viability of normal lung epithelial cells.

Glioblastoma (GBM) is a primary intracranial malignant tumor with the highest mortality and morbidity among all malignant central nervous system tumors. Tanshinone IIA is a fat-soluble active ingredient obtained from Salvia miltiorrhiza, which has an inhibitory effect against various cancers. We designed and synthesized a novel L-shaped ortho-quinone analog TE5 with tanshinone IIA as the lead compound and tested its antitumor activity against GBM.

Background: Growing evidence highlights the role of the spleen-brain axis in inflammation-associated depression. The α7-subtype of nicotinic acetylcholine receptor (α7 nAChR, encoded by the Chrna7 gene) is implicated in systemic inflammation, with Chrna7 knock-out (KO) mice displaying depression-like behaviors. Yet, the influence of spleen nerve on depression-like behaviors in these KO mice remains to be elucidated.

Multiple myeloma (MM) is a form of clonal plasma cell malignancy that associates with clinical manifestations such as anemia, hypercalcemia, bone pain, and renal impairment. Approximately 20-50% of MM patients at initial diagnosis experience renal injury, a vital complication that significantly influences prognosis and quality of life. This review seeks to clarify the multifaceted mechanisms of renal injury in MM, scrutinizing the pathogenic role of monoclonal proteins, the impact of hypercalcemia, and direct renal infiltration by plasma cells.

A 23-year-old male with a history of ventricular pre-excitation and atrial flutter presented for evaluation after recurrent syncope. The possible mechanism of syncope erroneously attributed to pre-excited atrial flutter with fast heart rates in the first hospitalization. The patient was found to have advanced heart block and PRKAG2 genetic mutation in the second hospitalization.

Objective: Aging is the most significant contributor to the increasing prevalence of atrial fibrillation (AF). Dysbiosis of gut microbiota has been implicated in age-related diseases, but its role in AF development remains unclear. This study aimed to investigate the correlations between changes in the autonomic nervous system, short-chain fatty acids (SCFAs), and alterations in gut microbiota in aged rats with AF.

Severe fever with thrombocytopenia syndrome (SFTS) is a potentially fatal tick-borne zoonosis caused by SFTS virus (SFTSV). In addition to tick bites, animal-to-human transmission of SFTSV has been reported, but little is known about feline SFTSV infection. In this study, we analyzed data on 187 cats with suspected SFTS to identify biomarkers for SFTS diagnosis and clinical outcome.

Objective: To analyze the clinical features and laboratory indicators in patients with solid malignant tumor-associated venous thromboembolism (Ta-VTE), and to study the risk factors for Ta-VTE.
Methods: The hospitalized patients with VTE in Guizhou Provincial People's Hospital from January to December 2020 were enrolled, and they were divided into Ta-VTE group and pure VTE group based on the presence or absence of solid malignant tumor. The differences in clinical data and laboratory indicators between the two groups were analyzed, and the indicators with significant differences were included in logistic regression model to analyze the risk factors of Ta-VTE.

Tissue engineering of small-diameter vessels remains challenging due to the inadequate ability to promote endothelialization and infiltration of smooth muscle cells (SMCs). Ideal vascular graft is expected to provide the ability to support endothelial monolayer formation and SMCs infiltration. To achieve this, vascular scaffolds with both orientation and dimension hierarchies were prepared, including hierarchically random vascular scaffold (RVS) and aligned vascular scaffold (AVS), by utilizing degradable poly(ε-caprolactone)-co-poly(ethylene glycol) (PCE) and the blend of PCE/gelatin (PCEG) as raw materials.
