Article Synopsis
  • Scientists are studying a type of bacteria called Staphylococcus xylosus, which is making cows sick and becoming harder to treat with medicine.
  • They used a method called iTRAQ analysis to see how this bacteria changes when exposed to a drug called ceftiofur sodium.
  • The research found that certain proteins in the bacteria change in response to the drug, helping it to survive and become resistant, which could lead to more serious problems for cows and farmers.

Hypoxia and hydrogen peroxide (HO) accumulation form the profibrogenic liver environment, which involves fibrogenesis and chronic stimulation of hepatic stellate cells (HSCs). Catalase (CAT) is the major antioxidant enzyme that catalyzes HO into oxygen and water, which loses its activity in different liver diseases, especially in liver fibrosis. Clinical specimens of cirrhosis patients and liver fibrotic mice are collected in this work, and results show that CAT decrease is closely correlated with hypoxia-induced transforminmg growth factor β1 (TGF-β1).

Decreased spasticity of Baishaoluoshi Decoction through the BDNF/TrKB-KCC2 pathway on poststroke spasticity rats.

Neuroreport

October 2021

Chinese Pharmacy Teaching and Research Department, College of Integrated Traditional Chinese and Western Medicine, Hunan University of Chinese Medicine, Changsha, Hunan.

Objective: K+-Cl- cotransporter-2 (KCC2), which primarily extrudes chloride in mature neurons, triggers hemiplegia limb spasticity after ischemic stroke by affecting neuronal excitability. Our previous study revealed that the Chinese herb Baishaoluoshi Decoction decreases hemiplegia limb spasticity in poststroke spasticity (PSS) patients. This study aimed at elucidating on the effects of Baishaoluoshi Decoction on the BDNF/TrKB-KCC2 pathway in PSS rat models.

Phenotypic modulation of Corpus Cavernosum Smooth Muscle Cells (CCSMCs) is an important step in the development and progression of bilateral cavernous nerve injury induced erectile dysfunction (BCNI-ED). To investigate the effect of exogenous hydrogen sulfide (HS) on the phenotypic modulation of CCSMCs in BCNI-ED rats, a total of 18 male Sprague-Dawley rats were equally divided into 3 groups, including sham-operated (Sham) group, BCNI group and BCNI treated with NaHS (BCNI + NaHS) group. The treated group received intraperitoneal injection of NaHS (100 μmol kgday) for 4 weeks starting day 1 postoperatively.

Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences, School of Pharmacy, Southwest Medical University, Luzhou, Sichuan 646000, China.

Ursolic acid (UA) is widely found in many dietary plants, which has been proved to be effective in cancer therapy. But unfortunately its hydrophobic property limits its clinical application. Polymer micelles (PMs) are constructed from amphiphilic block copolymers that tend to self-assemble and form the unique core-shell structure consisting of a hydrophilic corona outside and a hydrophobic inner core.
