Introduction: The efficacy and safety of ainuovirine+lamivudine+tenofovir (ANV+3TC+TDF) and efavirenz+lamivudine+tenofovir (EFV+3TC+TDF) have been confirmed in previous clinical trials; however, there are no related studies on patient-reported outcomes. This study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness and safety of these 2 antiretroviral therapy regimens and to understand the patient's symptom experience and subjective experience of sleep quality through patient-reported outcomes.

Methods: This is a single-center prospective cohort study with 243 patients evaluated from October 1, 2021 to June 30, 2022.

Ainuovirine (ANV), a novel non-nucleoside reverse-transcriptase inhibitor (NNRTI), was approved in China in 2021. In a previous randomized phase 3 trial, ANV demonstrated non-inferior efficacy relative to efavirenz (EFV) and was associated with lower rates of dyslipidemia. In this study, we aimed to explore lipid changes in treatment-experienced people with human immunodeficiency virus (HIV)-1 (PWH) switching to ANV from EFV in real world.

Inflammation-Targeted Drug Delivery Strategies via Albumin-Based Systems.

ACS Biomater Sci Eng

February 2024

Key Laboratory of Drug-Targeting and Drug Delivery System of the Education Ministry and Sichuan Province, Sichuan Engineering Laboratory for Plant-Sourced Drug and Sichuan Research Center for Drug Precision Industrial Technology, West China School of Pharmacy, Sichuan University, Chengdu 610041, China.

Albumin, being the most abundant serum protein, has the potential to significantly enhance the physicochemical properties of therapeutic payloads, thereby improving their pharmacological effects. Apart from its passive transport via the enhanced permeability and retention effect, albumin can actively accumulate in tumor microenvironments or inflammatory tissues via receptor-mediated processes. This unique property makes albumin a promising scaffold for targeted drug delivery.

Background: This study aimed to evaluate the therapeutic effect and tolerance of bictegravir/emtricitabine/tenofovir alafenamide fumarate (BIC/FTC/TAF) use for 24 weeks in anti-retroviral therapy (ART)-naïve patients in China.

Methods: This single-center retrospective cohort study included ART-naïve patients who received BIC/FTC/TAF from July 2021 to April 2022. The proportion of patients with HIV RNA < 50 copies/mL at the end point of 24 weeks (virological suppression rate) was the primary outcome, and the changes in CD4 cell count, CD4/CD8 ratio, weight, blood lipid, and safety were secondary outcomes.

Background: The combination of the endocannabinoid system (ECS) and the type 2 cannabinoid receptor (CB2R) can activate various signal pathways, leading to distinct pathophysiological roles. This interaction has gained significant attention in recent research on fibrosis diseases. Focal adhesion kinase (FAK) plays a crucial role in regulating signals from growth factor receptors and Integrins.

This study was to investigate the relationship between the levels of Angiopoietin-Like Protein 4 (ANGPTL4) and Silent Mating-type Information Regulation 2 Homolog 1 (SIRT1) and the stability of carotid atherosclerotic plaque. For this purpose, 108 patients with coronary heart disease in our hospital from Jan 2021 to May 2022 were selected as the coronary heart disease (CHD) group and 80 patients with the healthy examination as the control group. Patients' serum levels of ANGPTL4 and SIRT1 were collected, and their stability of carotid atherosclerotic plaque was determined by carotid ultrasound.

Polysaccharides from Dendrobium officinale polysaccharides (DOPs) are the main bioactive components of Dendrobium officinale, which have the functions of antioxidation and immune regulation. However, it is not clear whether DOPs have any effect on the prevention of reproductive disorders induced by oxidative stress. The purpose of this study was to explore the protective effect of DOPs on reproductive oxidative stress injury in male mice and its possible mechanism.

To assess the prevalence and exacerbating factors of intimate partner violence in people with human immunodeficiency virus (PWH) in China, we conducted a cross-sectional study, involving 2792 PWH in 4 provinces in China from 1 September 2020 to 1 June 2021. The categories of intimate partner violence (IPV) included physical violence, sexual violence, emotional abuse, and controlling behavior. The severity of a violent act was divided into mild, moderate, and severe.

Background: Phosphates, similar to urea, are small molecular substances that can be cleared during dialysis. Dialytic phosphate reduction rate (PRR) may, to some extent, be related to the relative amount of phosphates cleared during dialysis. However, few studies have evaluated the associations between PRR and mortality in maintenance hemodialysis (MHD) patients.

Rapid Detection of Extensive Drug Resistance by Xpert MTB/XDR Optimizes Therapeutic Decision-Making in Rifampin-Resistant Tuberculosis Patients.

J Clin Microbiol

June 2023

Department of Infectious Diseases, Shanghai Key Laboratory of Infectious Diseases and Biosafety Emergency Response, National Medical Center for Infectious Diseases, Huashan Hospital, Shanghai Medical College, Fudan University, Shanghai, China.

The Xpert MTB/XDR assay met the critical need for etiologic diagnosis of tuberculosis and rifampin resistance in previous studies. However, its benefits in tailoring the treatment regimen and improving the outcome for patients with rifampin-resistant tuberculosis (RR-TB) require further investigation. In this study, the Xpert MTB/XDR assay was used to determine the resistance profile of second-line drugs for RR-TB patients in two registered multicenter clinical trials, TB-TRUST (NCT03867136) and TB-TRUST-plus (NCT04717908), with the aim of testing the efficacy of all-oral shorter regimens in RR-TB patients in China.

Idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF) is a chronic progressive interstitial lung disease of unknown etiology, characterized by diffuse alveolitis and alveolar structural damage. Due to the short median survival time and poor prognosis of IPF, it is particularly urgent to find new IPF biomarkers. Previous studies have shown that basement membranes (BMs) are associated with the development of IPF and tumor metastasis.

Replacement of first-generation or second-generation epidermal growth factor receptor tyrosine kinase inhibitors (EGFR-TKIs) with third-generation EGFR-TKIs remains the current standard of care for T790M mutations in patients with non-small cell lung cancer. Osimertinib is one of the first third-generation EGFR-TKIs to be approved and is also the most widely studied in clinical research. There has been widespread concern about the adverse effects of osimertinib such as cardiotoxicity and interstitial lung disease, but few articles have reported severe thrombocytopenia after osimertinib treatment.
