Background: As the social economy has developed and population mobility has increased, differences in the Human immunodeficiency virus type 1 (HIV-1) genotype distribution among men who have sex with men (MSM) have become apparent in the provinces and cities across China. The high variability and drug resistance characteristics of HIV-1 can lead to the widespread spread of resistant strains, which may also result in antiretroviral therapy failure and an increase in the mortality rate.

Objective: The genotypic drug resistance characteristics and HIV-1 transmission risks among HIV-1-infected MSM in Guiyang, Guizhou Province were analyzed in the current study.

PRMT1-mediated methylation of ME2 promotes hepatocellular carcinoma growth by inhibiting ubiquitination.

Cell Death Dis

November 2024

Department of Nutrition and Food Hygiene, School of Public Health, Guizhou Medical University, 561113, Guiyang, Guizhou, P.R. China.

The mitochondrial malic enzyme 2 (ME2), which is frequently elevated during carcinogenesis and may be a target for cancer therapy, catalyzes the conversion of malate to pyruvate. The processes controlling ME2 activity, however, remain largely unclear. In this work, we show that human hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) tissues contain high levels of ME2 and that the methylation of ME2 stimulates the growth and migration of HCC cells.

Diagn Microbiol Infect Dis

December 2024

Department of Tuberculosis, Guiyang Public Health Clinical Center, Guiyang 550001, Guizhou Province, PR China. Electronic address:

Pleural parasitic infection is an extremely rare disease of the pleura caused by a variety of parasites, with paragonimiasis infection being the most common. The lack of specific clinical symptoms for paragonimiasis makes it easy to misdiagnose as tuberculosis, causing unnecessary drug-related adverse effects and financial burdens from incorrect treatment. We report a case of a pediatric patient presenting with an isolated pleural effusion that was misdiagnosed as tuberculosis; the patient was eventually diagnosed with pleuropulmonary paragonimiasis infection after immunologic and serologic tests.
