Maternal alloimmune antibodies against HPA and HLA class I antigens are associated with reduced birthweight among healthy neonates delivered by Chinese women.

Acta Obstet Gynecol Scand

November 2022

The United Reference Laboratory (jiangyin) for Blood Group Gene Detection of National Health Commission, Jiangyin, Jiangsu, China.

Introduction: It is well known that HPA-1a antibodies lead to fetal and neonatal alloimmune thrombocytopenia (FNAIT), and an association with reduced birthweight in boys has been reported. Although it remains unclear whether HLA antibodies cause FNAIT, an association between HLA class I antibodies and reduced birthweight in FNAIT neonates has been observed. The aim of this study was to investigate the incidence of platelet antibodies among Chinese women and the impact of maternal alloimmune antibodies on birthweight among healthy neonates.

Background: To investigate the current situation of neonatal care resources (NCR), newborn mortality rates (NMR), regional differences and existing challenges in China.

Methods: By using a self-designed questionnaire form and the cross-sectional method, we conducted a survey of all hospitals equipped with neonatal facilities in China from March 2019 to March 2020 with respect to the level and nature of these hospitals, the number of newborn beds and NICU beds, the number of neonatal pediatricians, and the development of therapeutic techniques. The data about the newborn births and deaths were retrieved from the annual statistics of the health commissions of the related provinces, autonomous regions and municipalities.

Low-Intensity Pulsed Ultrasound Promotes Repair of 4-Vinylcyclohexene Diepoxide-Induced Premature Ovarian Insufficiency in SD Rats.

J Gerontol A Biol Sci Med Sci

February 2022

State Key Laboratory of Ultrasound in Medicine and Engineering, College of Biomedical Engineering, Chongqing Key Laboratory of Biomedical Engineering, Chongqing Medical University, China.

Women with premature ovarian insufficiency (POI) may be more vulnerable to a variety of health risks. To seek a new method to treat the disease, the effects of low-intensity pulsed ultrasound (LIPUS) on promoting repair of ovarian injury in female SD rats induced by 4-vinylcyclohexene diepoxide (VCD) were explored in this research. A total of 24 female SD rats were subjected to intraperitoneal injection of VCD to induce POI.

  • The study investigates how sodium fluoride affects autophagy and apoptosis in primary osteoblasts by analyzing specific factors such as LC3A, Beclin 1, Bcl-2, and BAX.
  • Osteoblasts from rats were treated with varying concentrations of sodium fluoride, followed by a specific inhibitor (3-MA), with their cellular responses measured using flow cytometry and gene expression techniques.
  • The results showed increased expression of autophagy and apoptosis markers with NaF treatment, indicating that fluoride exposure may contribute to osteoblast damage through these biological processes.

Anoctamin 5 (ANO5) is a member of the Anoctamin (ANO) family of calcium-activated chloride channels. Although ANO5 expression is upregulated in various cancers, its role in osteosarcoma remains largely unknown. In this study, bioinformatics analysis, western blot, and immunohistochemical staining revealed that ANO5 was upregulated in osteosarcoma cell lines and osteosarcoma tissues, and ANO5 expression was positively associated with tumor size, tumor grade, and metastasis.

Ultrasound irradiation inhibits proliferation of cervical cancer cells by initiating endoplasmic reticulum stress-mediated apoptosis and triggering phosphorylation of JNK.

Adv Clin Exp Med

May 2021

State Key Laboratory of Ultrasound in Medicine and Engineering, College of Biomedical Engineering, Chongqing Key Laboratory of Biomedical Engineering, Chongqing Medical University, China.

Article Synopsis
  • Cervical cancer is a major health issue, and this study investigates the potential of low-intensity ultrasound irradiation (USI) as an effective treatment to induce cell death in cervical cancer cells.
  • Exposure to USI significantly reduced the viability and promoted apoptosis in cervical cancer cell lines (C33A, Hela, Siha), activating stress-related apoptotic mechanisms, while having no adverse effects on normal cervical cells (HaCaT).
  • The study found that USI did this by upregulating key proteins involved in apoptosis, like GRP78 and caspase-12, and activating the JNK pathway, indicating a promising approach for developing targeted anti-cancer therapies.
