The small nucleolar RNA host gene 16 (SNHG16) has recently been shown to be a putative oncogene in gastric cancer (GC) and other cancer types, but how its four lncRNA variants are expressed in any physiological and pathological situation remains unknown. To investigate the expression and function of the four lncRNA variants of SNHG16, mainly the variant 1, in GC, we performed quantitative PCR to determine the RNA levels of the four variants in 60 GC tissue samples and several cell lines. We also studied how knocking down of SNHG16 with siRNA affected proliferation, apoptosis, cell cycle progression, as well as migration and invasion of GC cells.

An investigation of members of the soil keratinophilic fungi community in China resulted in the identification of one new monotypic genus, , and 10 new species, 2 of which are affiliated with , 1 with the new genus , 4 with , and 3 with . These novel taxa form an independent lineage distinct from other species, based on morphological and multilocus phylogenetic analyses. Descriptions, illustrations, and notes are provided for each taxon.

The Guizhou odorous frog is endemic to Guizhou Province, China. In this study, a comparative analysis of the mitochondrial COI and ND2 gene sequences was performed to examine genetic diversity in 109 individuals from ten localities across the geographic range of the species. Haplotype diversity and nucleotide diversity were 0.

A dual catalytic chemo-selective cross-coupling reaction of two enals is developed. One enal (without α-substitution) is activated by an NHC catalyst to form an acylazolium enolate intermediate that undergoes Michael-type addition to another enal molecule bearing an alkynyl substituent. Mechanistic studies indicate that non-covalent interactions between the alkynyl enal and the NHC·HX catalyst play important roles in substrate activation and enantioselectivity control.

Although emotional audiovisual integration has been investigated previously, whether emotional audiovisual integration is affected by the spatial allocation of visual attention is currently unknown. To examine this question, a variant of the exogenous spatial cueing paradigm was adopted, in which stimuli varying by facial expressions and nonverbal affective prosody were used to express six basic emotions (happiness, anger, disgust, sadness, fear, surprise) via a visual, an auditory, or an audiovisual modality. The emotional stimuli were preceded by an unpredictive cue that was used to attract participants' visual attention.

Background: In clinical practice, Chinese herbal medicine (CHM) purportedly has beneficial therapeutic effects for chronic kidney disease (CKD), which include delaying disease progression and dialysis initiation. However, there is a lack of high-quality evidence-based results to support this. Therefore, this study aimed to evaluate the efficacy of CHM combined with Western medicine in the treatment of stage 5 CKD.

The spiny frog is endemic to a narrow region of southwest China and its taxonomic validation is still controversial. Based on COI gene sequences of 110 individuals from seven populations of and its related species, we investigated the phylogenetic position and population genetic structure of the species. Phylogenetic analyses indicated that was deeply genetically separated from its closely related species , indicating the validation of the species.

Background: There is increasing evidence that dietary intake of sugars may be a risk factor for prostate cancer (PCa) and elevate the concentration of serum prostate-specific antigen (PSA). However, there is limited evidence of the correlation between total dietary intake of sugars and serum PSA concentrations for adult American males. Herein, we evaluated the association between total dietary intake of sugars and serum PSA concentrations in men without a malignant tumor diagnosis in the United States (US) National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) database.

BACKGROUND Studies have shown that thiamine intake is associated with cervical cancer, but the relationship between thiamine and HPV infection remains unclear. In the present study, we used the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) database to investigate whether HPV infection was associated with thiamine intake. MATERIAL AND METHODS A total of 13 471 women ages 18-59 years were selected from the NHANES database from 2003 to 2016.

Hynobiidae are a clade of salamanders that diverged early within the crown radiation and that retain a considerable number of features plesiomorphic for the group. Their evolutionary history is informed by a fossil record that extends to the Middle Jurassic Bathonian time. Our understanding of the evolution within the total group of Hynobiidae has benefited considerably from recent discoveries of stem hynobiids but is constrained by inadequate anatomical knowledge of some extant forms.

Clinical studies have demonstrated that trimetazidine (TMZ) possesses a synergistic hypolipidemic effect together with statins, but the underlying mechanism remains to be elucidated. The present study aimed to investigate the role of TMZ in non‑alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD). By investigating the TMZ treatment of NAFLD, it was identified that high‑fat diet (HFD) mice exhibit significant changes in several physiologic indices, including body weight, plasma lipids and glucose tolerance.
