Importance: Persisting or new thrombi in the distal arteries and the microcirculation have been reported to limit the benefits of successful endovascular thrombectomy for patients with acute ischemic stroke. It remains uncertain whether intra-arterial thrombolysis by urokinase following near-complete to complete reperfusion by thrombectomy improves outcomes among patients with ischemic stroke due to large vessel occlusion.

Objective: To assess the efficacy and adverse events of intra-arterial urokinase after near-complete to complete reperfusion by thrombectomy for acute ischemic stroke due to large vessel occlusion.

Guangxi Key Laboratory of Drug Discovery and Optimization, School of Pharmacy, Guilin Medical University, Guilin 541199, China; Guangxi Key Laboratory of Diabetic Systems Medicine, Guilin Medical University, Guilin 541004, China. Electronic address:

Autophagy is a well-conserved self-protection process that plays an important role in cardiovascular diseases. Excessive autophagy during myocardial ischemia/reperfusion injury (MIRI) induces calcium overload and the overactivation of an autophagic response, thereby aggravating cardiomyocyte damage. Polycystin-2 (PC2) is a Ca-permeable nonselective cation channel implicated in the regulation of autophagy.

Bushen Huoxue decoction improves the reproduction of endometriosis-associated infertility by regulating Homeobox A10 and αlpha(v)beta(3) integrin expression.

J Tradit Chin Med

December 2024

Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Affiliated Hospital of Integrated Traditional Chinese and Western Medicine, Nanjing University of Chinese Medicine, Nanjing 210028, China.

Objective: To investigate the mechanism of Bushen Huoxue decoction (, BSHXD) to treat endometriosis-induced infertility.

Medhods: The main compounds of BSHXD were determined by high performance liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry (HPLC-MS/MS). The effect of BSHXD on Homeobox A10 (HOXA10) and alpha(v)beta(3) (αvβ3) integrin expression of Ishikawa cells, mouse model, and endometriosis-associated infertility women was evaluated by using Western blot analysis, immunohistochemistry and Real-Time quantitative polymerase chain reaction (RT-qPCR).

The increasing use of ceftazidime-avibactam has led to the emergence of a wide range of ceftazidime-avibactam-resistant variants. Particularly, the conventional carbapenemase phenotypic assay exhibited a high false-negative rate for KPC-2 variants. In this study, three colloidal gold immunoassays, including the Gold Mountainriver CGI test, Dynamiker CGI test and NG-Test CARBA5, and GeneXpert Carba-R, were used to detect the presence of KPC-2 carbapenemase and its various variants in 42 strains.

Introduction: Although long-term macrolide antibiotics could reduce the recurrent exacerbation of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), the side effect of bacterial resistance and the impact on the microbiota remain concerning. We investigated the influence of long-term erythromycin treatment on the airway and gut microbiota in mice with emphysema and patients with COPD.

Methods: We conducted 16S rRNA gene sequencing to explore the effect of erythromycin treatment on the lung and gut microbiota in mice with emphysema.

Article Synopsis
  • Homemade peanut oil, commonly consumed in rural Southwestern China, can be contaminated with aflatoxins, which are linked to negative birth outcomes like low birth weight (LBW) and preterm birth (PB).
  • A study involving 1,611 pregnant women in Guangxi province revealed that 81.7% consumed homemade peanut oil, correlating with higher risks of LBW (1.9 times more likely) and PB (1.8 times more likely) compared to those who did not consume it.
  • Additional factors increasing the risks included maternal history of PB or LBW, older maternal age, lack of exercise, passive smoking, and pregnancy complications; thus, health authorities should focus on advising safe oil consumption during pregnancy

Introduction: Intestinal barrier dysfunction is a pivotal factor in sepsis progression. The mechanosensitive ion channel Piezo1 is associated with barrier function; however, its role in sepsis-induced intestinal barrier dysfunction remains poorly understood.

Methods: The application of cecal ligation and puncture (CLP) modeling was performed on both mice of the wild-type (WT) variety and those with Villin-Piezo1 genetic makeup to assess the barrier function using in vivo FITC-dextran permeability measurements and immunofluorescence microscopy analysis of tight junctions (TJs) and apoptosis levels.

Pyruvate dehydrogenase kinases (PDKs) play a key role in glucose metabolism by exerting negative regulation over pyruvate dehyrogenase complex (PDC) activity through phosphorylation. Inhibition of PDKs holds the potential to enhance PDC activity, prompting cells to adopt a more aerobic metabolic profile. Consequently, PDKs emerge as promising targets for condition rooted in metabolic dysregulation, including malignance and diabetes.

Flavor and chemical changes with microbial succession during Red-Sour-Soup (RSS) post-fermentation were urgent to be revealed for quality control. RSS post-fermentation could be divided into three stages according to acidity, nutrients exhausting and total colony counts, without coliform bacteria growth nor nitrite peak was observed. Lactobacillus acetotolerans induced over 50 % increase of lactic acid, finally conducing to the lactic acid-dominated sour taste of RSS.

Despite the use of intensity-modulated radiation therapy (IMRT) and concurrent chemotherapy (CCRT), the treatment of locoregionally advanced nasopharyngeal carcinoma (LA-NPC) is not satisfactory. EGFR and VEGFR are highly expressed in 60-80% of patients with LA-NPC and this is associated with a poor prognosis, which suggests the potential effectiveness of an inhibitor targeting tumor angiogenesis for treating LA-NPC. The present study aimed to assess the safety and effectiveness of CCRT combined with anlotinib in patients with LA-NPC.

Numerous groups have employed the special properties of CRISPR/Cas systems to develop platforms that have broad potential applications for sensitive and specific detection of nucleic acid (NA) targets. However, few of these approaches have progressed to commercial or clinical applications. This review summarizes the properties of known CRISPR/Cas systems and their applications, challenges associated with the development of such assays, and opportunities to improve their performance or address unmet assay needs using nano-/micro-technology platforms.

Emerging evidence indicates that N-methyladenosine (mA) plays a critical role in vascular biological characteristic. In diabetes mellitus pathophysiology, high glucose (HG)-induced vascular endothelial dysfunction is associated with diabetes vascular complications. Nevertheless, the underlying mechanism of high glucose (HG)-related mA regulation on vascular endothelial cells is still unclear.
