Department of Human Anatomy and Cell Science, University of Manitoba, Winnipeg, MB R3E 0J9, Canada.

Neurodegeneration can benefit from ischemic preconditioning, a natural adaptive reaction to sublethal noxious stimuli. Although there is growing interest in advancing preconditioning to preserve brain function, preconditioning is not yet considered readily achievable in clinical settings. One of the most challenging issues is that there is no fine line between preconditioning stimuli and lethal stimuli.

Rationale: Primary pulmonary meningioma (PPM) is extremely rare tumor and only a few reports have been reported to date. PPM may be overlooked when it coexists with other types of tumors in the lung. It is essential to have a knowledge of the clinicopathological features of PPM and to recognize this rare coexistence.

Tumors of the digestive system have always received attention, and their occurrence and development are regulated by various mechanisms such as inflammation and immunity, glucose and lipid metabolism, and tumor angiogenesis. Complement Clq/TNF-related protein 6 (CTRP6) is a member of the CTRP family; it is widely expressed in various tissues and cell types, and plays a biological role in a number of mechanisms, such as glucose and lipid metabolism and inflammation. Recent studies have revealed the tumor-promoting effect of CTRP6 in gastric cancer, liver cancer, colorectal cancer and other gastrointestinal tumors, but, to the best of our knowledge, there has been no systematic discussion on the tumor-promoting mechanism of CTRP6.

Background: The purpose of this study was to construct a nomogram based on classical parameters and immunohistochemical markers to predict the recurrence of early low-risk endometrial cancer patients.

Methods: A total of 998 patients with early low-risk endometrial cancer who underwent primary surgical treatment were enrolled (668 in the training cohort, 330 in the validation cohort). Prognostic factors identified by univariate and multivariate analysis in the training cohort were used to construct the nomogram.

Ectopic pituitary adenoma (EPA) is a pituitary adenoma unrelated to the intrasellar component and is an extremely rare disease. EPA resembles typical pituitary adenomas in morphology, immunohistochemistry, and hormonal activity, and it may present with specific or non-specific endocrine manifestations. Here, we report a rare case of ectopic adrenocorticotropic hormone (ACTH)-secreting pituitary adenoma in the clival region.

There is a significant difference in prognosis among different risk groups. Therefore, it is of great significance to correctly identify the risk grouping of children. Using the genomic data of neuroblastoma samples in public databases, we used GSE49710 as the training set data to calculate the feature genes of the high-risk group and non-high-risk group samples based on the random forest (RF) algorithm and artificial neural network (ANN) algorithm.

Background: Synovial sarcoma is an uncommon soft tissue tumor of soft tissue, characterized by a specific SS18 rearrangement. It generally manifests as a lesion composed of monomorphic spindle cells and sometimes shows variable epithelial differentiation. Epithelial-type synovial sarcoma is rare, and synovial sarcoma with overwhelming neuroendocrine differentiation has not been reported previously.

Purpose: The study aimed to explore factors associated with deep sedation practice in intensive care units (ICUs).

Materials And Methods: A analysis was conducted for a cross-sectional survey on sedation practices in mechanically ventilated (MV) patients, combined with a questionnaire for physicians regarding their preferences for light sedation (P-pls Score) in 92 Chinese ICUs.

Results: There were 457 and 127 eligible MV patients in the light and deep sedation groups respectively.

Objective: Disease prediction is crucial to treatment success. The aim of this study was to accurately and explicably predict, based on the first laboratory measurements, medications, and demographic information, the risk of death in patients with hypertensive chronic kidney disease within 1 and 3 years after admission to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU).

Methods: Patients with hypertensive chronic kidney disease who had been registered in the Medical Information Mart for Intensive Care (MIMIC-III) database of critical care medicine were set as the subject of study, which was randomly divided into a training set and a validation set in a ratio of 7 : 3.

Background: The peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor γ (PPARγ) promotes autophagy and regulates the inflammatory response. However, the effects of the PPARγ on inflammation in acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS) are unclear. This study sought to explore the mechanism by which the downregulation of microRNA-129-5p (miR-129-5p) attenuates the inflammatory response in ARDS patients by regulating PPARγ-mediated autophagy.

Suboptimal sedation practices continue to be frequent, although the updated guidelines for management of pain, agitation, and delirium in mechanically ventilated (MV) patients have been published for several years. Causes of low adherence to the recommended minimal sedation protocol are multifactorial. However, the barriers to translation of these protocols into standard care for MV patients have yet to be analyzed.

is an opportunistic pathogen that causes serious infections and hospital-acquired pneumonia in immunocompromised patients. accounts for up to 20% of all cases of hospital-acquired pneumonia, with an attributable mortality rate of ~30-40%. The poor clinical outcome of -induced pneumonia is ascribed to its ability to disrupt lung barrier integrity, leading to the development of lung edema and bacteremia.
