World J Surg Oncol

December 2024

Department of Radiation Oncology, Guangzhou Institute of Cancer Research, the Affiliated Cancer Hospital, Guangzhou, Guangdong, 510095, People's Republic of China.

Background: The combination of immunotherapy and chemotherapy has demonstrated an enhancement in progression-free survival (PFS) for individuals with advanced and metastatic triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC) when compared to the use of chemotherapy alone. Nevertheless, the extent to which different subgroups of metastatic TNBC patients experience this benefit remains uncertain.

Objectives: Our objective was to conduct subgroup analyses to more precisely identify the factors influencing these outcomes.

Objective: The primary methods for defining the prognostic risk of AML patients are cytogenetic and molecular analysis at the time of diagnosis. However, the prognosis of intermediate-risk patients is still not well assessed for biomarkers. The main objective of this meta-analysis is to evaluate the relationship between circRNAs and AML prognosis, to provide a theoretical basis for finding effective prognostic indicators in intermediate-risk patients, and to provide an important scientific basis for the development or revision of WHO practice guidelines and ELN risk classification, and to highlight the importance of continuing to focus on and evaluate the prognostic impact of circRNAs on AML in future studies.

Integrated metabolomic and transcriptomic analyses of flavonoid accumulation in different cultivars of Platostoma palustre.

BMC Plant Biol

December 2024

Research Center of Chinese Herbal Resource Science and Engineering, School of Chinese Materia Medica, Guangzhou University of Chinese Medicine, Guangzhou, 510006, China.

Background: Platostoma palustre is a kind of plant resource with medicinal and food value, which has been differentiated into many different varieties after a long period of breeding. The cultivars of Taiwan(TW) and Pingyuan(PY) are widely grown in Guangdong, but a clear basis for species differentiation has not yet been established, resulting in the mixing of different species which limits their production and application.

Results: Regarding leaf surface morphology, the TW exhibited greater leaf area, non-glandular hairs, and the number of stomata than the PY.

Advanced Mass-Spectra-Based Machine Learning for Predicting the Toxicity of Traditional Chinese Medicines.

Anal Chem

December 2024

Institute of Environmental Research at Greater Bay Area, Key Laboratory for Water Quality and Conservation of the Pearl River Delta, Ministry of Education, Guangzhou University, Guangzhou 510006, China.

Traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) has been a cornerstone of health care for centuries, valued for its preventive and therapeutic properties. However, recent decades have revealed significant toxicological concerns associated with TCMs due to their complex chemical compositions. Traditional QSAR (quantitative structure-activity relationships) models, which predict toxicity based on chemical structures, face challenges with the intricate nature of TCM compounds.

Purpose: This study aims to identify the risk factors associated with bone cement loosening after percutaneous vertebroplasty/kyphoplasty (PVP/PKP) for osteoporotic vertebral compression fractures (OVCF) and to develop a clinical prediction model for bone cement loosening.

Methods: Clinical data of patients who underwent PVP/PKP for OVCF at Guangzhou Panyu Hospital from June 2017 to June 2021 were collected, with a division into loosening group and normal group based on postoperative follow-up imaging. Univariate analysis was conducted to explore the correlation between clinical data and bone cement loosening.

The evaluation of the effectiveness of traditional Chinese medicine(TCM) has long been a "bottleneck" issue that restricts the healthy development and internationalization of TCM. This article systematically analyzes the differences in diagnostic and treatment principles, material composition, new drug development pathways, efficacy cognition, and evaluation methodology between Chinese and Western medicine from the underlying logic of medical perspective. On this basis, it integrates the evidence elements of clinical experience, experimental research, and clinical trials, and for the first time proposes and establishes a new strategy and methodology for the evaluation of the effectiveness of TCM: the integrated evidence chain-based effectiveness evaluation of traditional Chinese medicine(iEC-Eff), forming an integrated evaluation and confirmation model of "clinical experience-experimental research-clinical trial" for the effectiveness of TCM.

Traditional Chinese medicine(TCM) has significant advantages in treatment of chronic kidney disease, but its clinical research evidence needs to be further summarized and improved. By means of evidence mapping, this paper systematically categorized the clinical research on TCM in treating chronic kidney disease in recent ten years, so as to understand the existing evidence level in this field and offer a reference for addressing current issues. The relevant literature published between January 1, 2013 and December 31, 2023 was systematically searched in both Chinese and English databases.

Progress of research into microglial mediation of central post-stroke pain.

Int J Immunopathol Pharmacol

December 2024

Department of Neurology & Psychology, Shenzhen Traditional Chinese Medicine Hospital, The Fourth Clinical Medical College of Guangzhou University of Chinese Medicine, Shenzhen, Guangdong.

Central post-stroke pain (CPSP) is a chronic neuropathic pain syndrome that commonly occurs after cerebral stroke, and it severely impairs the daily activities of stroke patients. A number of fundamental and clinical studies support the theory that CPSP is mainly caused by ischemic and hemorrhagic injury of the spinal-thalamic-cortical neural pathway. However, the underlying reasons of CPSP genesis and development are far from clear.
