Background: The appropriate approach for video-assisted thoracoscopic surgery for early stage thymoma remains unclear. The present study aimed to explore the safety and feasibility of subxiphoid and subcostal arch thoracoscopic thymectomy in comparison with unilateral thoracoscopic thymectomy for treatment of early stage thymoma.
Methods: The outcomes of 237 patients without myasthenia gravis who had undergone thoracoscopic thymectomy for Masaoka stage I and II thymoma from January 2015 to May 2019 at our center were retrospectively evaluated (subxiphoid and subcostal arch approach, 39; unilateral video-assisted thoracoscopic surgery approach, 198).

The emergency SARS-CoV-2, a member of severe acute respiratory syndrome-related coronaviruses (SARSr-CoV), is still greatly harming the health of mankind. SARS-CoV-2-specific monoclonal antibodies (MAbs), which can identify SARS-CoV-2 from common human coronaviruses, are considered to extensively apply to developing rapid and reliable antigen assays. In this study we generated a rabbit MAb (RAb) detecting SARS-CoV-2 nucleocapsid protein (NP), which has cross-reaction with SARS-CoV-1 NP, but not with NPs of MERS and common human CoVs (OC43, NL63, 229E, and HKU1).

The present study aimed to analyze the expression and clinical importance of DMBX1 in nonneoplastic tissues and tumor tissues from patients with hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC).

Using RNAseq, we identified a 61 gene-based circulating transcriptomic profile most correlated with four indices of pulmonary arterial hypertension severity. In an independent dataset, 13/61 (21%) genes were differentially expressed in lung tissues of pulmonary arterial hypertension cases versus controls, highlighting potentially novel candidate genes involved in pulmonary arterial hypertension development.

Platelet-derived growth factor is one of the major growth factors found in human and mammalian serum and tissues. Abnormal activation of platelet-derived growth factor signaling pathway through platelet-derived growth factor receptors may contribute to the development and progression of pulmonary vascular remodeling and obliterative vascular lesions in patients with pulmonary arterial hypertension. In this study, we examined the expression of platelet-derived growth factor receptor isoforms in pulmonary arterial smooth muscle and pulmonary arterial endothelial cells and investigated whether platelet-derived growth factor secreted from pulmonary arterial smooth muscle cell or pulmonary arterial endothelial cell promotes pulmonary arterial smooth muscle cell proliferation.

The mitochondrial theory of aging postulates that accumulation of mtDNA mutations and mitochondrial dysfunction are responsible for producing aging phenotypes. To more comprehensively explore the complex relationship between aging and mitochondria dysfunction, we have developed a mouse model with Slc25a46 knockout, a nuclear gene described as encoding mitochondrial carriers, by CRISPR/Cas9 gene editing to mimic some typical aging phenotypes in human. Slc25a46-/- mice present segmental premature aging phenotypes characterized by shortened life span of no more than 2 months, obviously defective motor ability, gastrocnemius muscle atrophy, and imbalance of redox level in brain and liver.
