Store‑operated calcium entry (SOCE) is critical for regulating the proliferation and metastasis of various cancer types. The present study aimed to investigate the role of SOCE on nicotine‑promoted proliferation of non‑small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) A549 cells. Cell proliferation was evaluated by BrdU incorporation assay.

Tumour growth depends on a continual supply of the nutrients and oxygen, which are offered by tumour angiogenesis. Our previous study showed that dipalmitoylphosphatidic acid (DPPA), a bioactive phospholipid, inhibits the growth of triple-negative breast cancer cells. However, its direct effect on angiogenesis remains unknown.

Background: Concomitant with rising rates of esophageal adenocarcinoma, there has been a significant increase of diagnoses among relatively younger individuals. However, most studies that focus on esophageal cancer (EC) in younger patients have had small sample sizes of patients treated at a single institute. The aim of this study was to analyze the clinical characteristics, outcomes and independent prognostic factors for EC in patients under 50-year-old using a large, multi-center dataset.

HECTD3 mediates TRAF3 polyubiquitination and type I interferon induction during bacterial infection.

J Clin Invest

August 2018

Key Laboratory of Animal Models and Human Disease Mechanisms of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and Yunnan Province, and.

Lysine-63-linked (K63-linked) polyubiquitination of TRAF3 coordinates the engagement of pattern-recognition receptors with recruited adaptor proteins and downstream activator TBK1 in pathways that induce type I IFN. Whether autoubiquitination or other E3 ligases mediate K63-linked TRAF3 polyubiquitination remains unclear. We demonstrated that mice deficient in the E3 ligase gene Hectd3 remarkably increased host defense against infection by intracellular bacteria Francisella novicida, Mycobacterium, and Listeria by limiting bacterial dissemination.

Effects of ozone stimulation of bronchial epithelial cells on proliferation and collagen synthesis of co-cultured lung fibroblasts.

Exp Ther Med

June 2018

Changzhou Key Laboratory of Respiratory Medical Engineering, Institute of Biomedical Engineering and Health Sciences, Changzhou University, Changzhou, Jiangsu 213164, P.R. China.

Ozone (O) as a major air pollutant is widely recognized for causing pathological changes of the airway system. However, it is not clear whether O exposure of bronchial epithelial cells (BECs) influences the proliferation and collagen synthesis of submucosal fibroblasts and contributes to the pathogenesis of airway remodeling in diseases, including asthma. In the present study, a co-culture method was applied to culture human lung fibroblasts (HLFs) with human bronchial epithelial cells (HBECs) that were pre-stimulated with O.

Neurogenic airway inflammation in chronic cough and bronchial asthma related to gastroesophageal reflux (GER) is involved in the esophageal-bronchial reflex, but it is unclear whether this reflex is mediated by central neurons. This study aimed to investigate the regulatory effects of the dorsal vagal complex (DVC) on airway inflammation induced by the esophageal perfusion of hydrochloric acid (HCl) following the microinjection of nuclei in the DVC in guinea pigs. Airway inflammation was evaluated by measuring the extravasation of Evans blue dye (EBD) and substance P (SP) expression in the airway.

Sodium Tanshinone IIA Sulfonate Decreases Cigarette Smoke-Induced Inflammation and Oxidative Stress via Blocking the Activation of MAPK/HIF-1α Signaling Pathway.

State Key Lab of Respiratory Diseases, Guangzhou Institute of Respiratory Disease, Guangzhou Institute of Respiratory Health, The First Affiliated Hospital, Guangzhou Medical University, Guangzhou, China.

Aberrant activation of hypoxia-inducible factor (HIF)-1α is frequently encountered and promotes oxidative stress and inflammation in chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). The present study investigated whether sodium tanshinone IIA sulfonate (STS), a water-soluble derivative of tanshinone IIA, can mediate its effect through inhibiting HIF-1α-induced oxidative stress and inflammation in cigarette smoke (CS)-induced COPD in mice. Here, we found that STS improved pulmonary function, ameliorated emphysema and decreased the infiltration of inflammatory cells in the lungs of CS-exposed mice.

Introduction: Obesity hypoventilation syndrome (OHS) is a major respiratory complication caused by severe obesity, being associated with significant morbidity, negative impacts on quality of life and reduced survival if not treated appropriately. Positive airway pressure therapy is the first-line treatment for OHS although the optimal modality remains unclear. The goal of this study is to identify the efficacy of home bilevel positive airway pressure therapy by comparison to continuous positive airway pressure therapy and determine the best strategy for patients with OHS.

Background: The COP9 signalosome (CSN) is an evolutionarily conserved complex composed of eight subunits (CSN1-CSN8). Among the CSN subunits, CSN5 and its dimerization partner CSN6 are the only two MPN (Mpr1-Pad1-N-terminal) domain-containing subunits. These two subunits play essential roles in a variety of biological processes, such as cell cycle progression, protein stability and signal transduction.

Background: Acute exacerbations of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (AECOPD) are common in patients with underlying moderate to severe COPD and are associated with increased health and economic burden. International and Chinese guidelines recommend using glucocorticoids for the management of AECOPD because glucocorticoid therapy has been shown to benefit clinical outcomes. However, only scant data are available for current status of glucocorticoid therapy in hospitalized AECOPD patients in China.

Human Vγ9Vδ2-T cells recognize nonpeptidic antigens and exert effector functions against microorganisms and tumors, but little is known about their roles in humoral immune response against influenza virus infection. Herein, in the coculture of autologous human B cells, dendritic cells and/or naïve CD4 T cells, and Vγ9Vδ2-T cells, we demonstrated that Vγ9Vδ2-T cells could facilitate H9N2 influenza virus-specific IgG and IgM productions in a CD4 T cell-dependent manner. Vγ9Vδ2-T cells promoted the differentiation of CXCR5PD1CD4 T follicular helper (Tfh) cells, CD19IgDCD38 plasma cells (PCs), and drove B cell proliferation as well as immunoglobulin class switching.

Article Synopsis
  • Non-small-cell lung cancer (NSCLC) is a leading cause of cancer deaths, and Calotropin has been identified as a potential treatment that can inhibit cell growth and promote cell death (apoptosis) in NSCLC cells.
  • In laboratory tests, Calotropin was shown to reduce the growth, migration, and invasion of H358 NSCLC cells, while also increasing apoptosis and altering the expression of several key proteins involved in cancer cell survival and death.
  • Animal studies further confirmed that Calotropin significantly reduced tumor growth and improved survival rates, highlighting its potential as a therapeutic agent for NSCLC.
