Background: The optimal treatment for stage IIIA-N2 non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) is controversial. We aimed to address this important issue through a Bayesian network meta-analysis.
Methods: We performed a search of electronic databases for randomized controlled trials comparing the following treatments: surgery, radiotherapy, chemotherapy, and their multiple combinations before March 25, 2018.

There are controversial reports on applications of mesenchymal stromal cells (MSCs) in patients with acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS). We hypothesized that lung microenvironment was the main determinant of beneficial versus detrimental effects of MSCs during ARDS. Lung proteome was profiled in three models of injury induced by acid instillation and/or mechanical ventilation in mice.

We investigated neuronal activity of the medulla oblongata during gastroesophageal reflux-related cough (GERC). A rat model of GERC was generated by perfusing HCl into lower esophagus and inducing cough with citric acid. The HCl group rat was received HCl perfusion without citric acid-induced cough.

Objectives: Pulmonary granulomatous nodule (GN) with spiculated or lobulated appearance are indistinguishable from solid lung adenocarcinoma (SADC) based on CT morphological features, and partial false-positive findings on PET/CT. The objective of this study was to investigate the ability of quantitative CT radiomics for preoperatively differentiating solitary atypical GN from SADC.
Methods: 302 eligible patients (SADC = 209, GN = 93) were evaluated in this retrospective study and were divided into training (n = 211) and validation cohorts (n = 91).

Background: Few studies have analyzed influenza B virus lineages based on hemagglutinin A (HA) gene sequences in southern China. The present study analyzed the HA gene and the lineages of influenza B virus isolates from Guangzhou during 2016, and compared our results with the WHO-recommended vaccine strain.
Methods: Ninety patients with influenza B were recruited from the First Hospital of Guangzhou Medical University.

BACKGROUND Most observations of non-intubated anesthesia under spontaneous breathing are small-cohort, non-homogeneous surgery types and lack an intubation control. We therefore retrospectively compared the perioperative conditions and postoperative recovery of non-intubated video-assisted thoracoscopic surgery (NIVATS group) and intubated VATS (IVATS group) with a propensity score-matching analysis. MATERIAL AND METHODS We case-matched 119 patients in the NIVATS group with patients in the IVATS group by a propensity score-matched analysis.

Objective: To explore the effect of lung strain on breathing mechanics in dogs with acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS).
Methods: Twenty-four healthy male Beagle dogs were recruited to reproduce medium ARDS models with venous injection of 0.18 mL/kg oleic acid, and they were randomly assigned to five groups with random numbers table method.

Objective: To analyze the relationship between T cell subsets and clinical data.
Methods: mononuclear cells were collected from 103 patients with acute leukemia (AL) and 28 healthy volunteers, and percentage changes of CD3CD4, CD3CD8 and CD4 CD25 Foxp3 cell subsets were assayed by flow cytometory. Relationship between the T subsets and clinical features of the patients was analyzed.

Background: The current TNM staging system plays a central role in lung adenocarcinoma (LUAD) prognosis. However, it may not adequately stratify the risk of tumor recurrence. With the aid of gene expression profiling, we identified 31 lncRNAs whose expressions in tumor tissues could be used as a risk indicator for the guidance of lung cancer therapy.

Pulmonary hypertension (PH) is a common complication of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and is a significant risk factor for hospitalization and shortened life expectancy. Therefore, developing new serum biomarkers for early diagnosis and prognosis of COPD associated PH is crucial. In the present study, a solid-phase antibody array simultaneously detecting multiple proteins was used to search specific COPD associated PH biomarkers, with COPD patients and healthy subjects as control groups.

Allergic Rhinitis and its Impact on Asthma (ARIA) has evolved from a guideline by using the best approach to integrated care pathways using mobile technology in patients with allergic rhinitis (AR) and asthma multimorbidity. The proposed next phase of ARIA is change management, with the aim of providing an active and healthy life to patients with rhinitis and to those with asthma multimorbidity across the lifecycle irrespective of their sex or socioeconomic status to reduce health and social inequities incurred by the disease. ARIA has followed the 8-step model of Kotter to assess and implement the effect of rhinitis on asthma multimorbidity and to propose multimorbid guidelines.

Purpose: The sit-to-stand test (STST) has been used to evaluate the exercise tolerance of patients with COPD. However, mutual comparisons to predict poor exercise tolerance have been hindered by the variety of STST modes used in previous studies, which also did not consider patients' subjective perceptions of different STST modes. Our aim was to compare the five-repetition sit-to-stand test (5STS) with the 30-second sit-to-stand test (30STS) for predicting poor performance in the six-minute walking test and to evaluate patients' subjective perceptions to determine the optimal mode for clinical practice.

Background: Diagnosis of sleep-disordered breathing (SDB) requires overnight polysomnography (PSG). Because of the cost and low availability of these procedures, the NoSAS score was developed to identify subjects at high risk of SDB. To evaluate the clinical utility of the NoSAS score for screening patients with SDB in China and to compare the predictive value of the NoSAS score with the Epworth Sleepiness Scale (ESS), we used the STOP-Bang questionnaire and the Berlin questionnaire.

To investigate the effect of connecting airbag in different filling state at the front end of piezometric tube in the noninvasive ventilation circuit on pressure transmission and human-machine synchronization. In test 1, the airbag was connected to a piezometric tube which was placed in a closed container, the filling state of the airbag was regulated, and the pressure inside the container was changed to observe the corresponding pressure change in the piezometric tube. In test 2, the airbag in different filling state was connected at the front end of piezometric tube in noninvasive ventilation circuit.

Human mastadenovirus (HAdVs) can cause a broad spectrum of diseases in both children and adults, including acute respiratory infection, gastroenteritis, epidemic keratoconjunctivitis. Populations susceptible to adenovirus infection include children, immunocompromised patients and military recruits. To date, seven species (A-G) including more than 79 genotypes have been characterized, of which HAdV-B3, B4, B7 and the recently reemerged types 14 and 55 often lead to severe pneumonia.

Influenza A viruses (IAVs) cause seasonal epidemics and intermittent pandemics which threaten human health. Conventional assays cannot meet the demands for rapid and sensitive detection of viral spread and pathogenesis in real time cannot be used for high-throughput screens of novel antivirals. Bioluminescence imaging (BLI) has emerged as a powerful tool in the study of infectious diseases in animal models.

Background: The prognostic value of Metformin for concurrent non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) has been controversial in previous individual studies and meta-analyses. In order to further investigate the value of this medication, we conducted a systematic review and meta-analysis for patients with advanced or inoperable NSCLC.
Methods: We searched articles from PubMed, Scopus and Web of Science databases; the time interval was from the inception date of the databases to 1 September 2017.
