Differentially expressed proteins between HCC TIF and normal interstitial fluid of adjacent nontumor tissues were identified through comparative proteomics approach. Then, two-dimensional gel electrophoresis (2-DE), matrix-assisted laser desorption/ionization time-of-flight mass spectrometry (MALDI-TOF-MS), In-Cell Western technique, and reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) were used to verify differentially expressed proteins. As a result, through 2-DE, 69 spots were roughly recognized as differentially expressed protein spots, while 44 proteins were identified as differentially expressed spots through MALDI-TOF-MS.

Article Synopsis
  • Aflatoxins (AFs) are toxic substances produced by certain fungi that contaminate various foods, posing significant health risks globally.
  • The standard method for detecting AFs, immunoaffinity chromatography (IAC), is time-consuming and costly, limiting its use for large-scale food testing.
  • A new solid-phase extraction (SPE) method using humic acid-bonded silica (HAS) efficiently captures AFs from edible oils while eliminating oil matrix contaminants, demonstrating high recovery rates and compliance with international regulatory standards.

In the era of combination therapy for human immunodeficiency virus (HIV), liver disease including hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), are the major causes of death for patients co-infected with hepatitis B virus (HBV) and HIV. However, the mechanisms remain obscure. We aimed to determine whether HCC-related HBV mutations including 1762T/1764A double mutation and pre-S deletions occur more frequently in HBV/HIV co-infected individuals compared to HBV mono-infected individuals.

Cytosine methylation (5-methylcytosine, 5-mC) in genomic DNA is an important epigenetic mark that has regulatory roles in diverse biological processes. 5-mC can be oxidized stepwise by the ten-eleven translocation (TET) proteins to form 5-hydroxymethylcytosine (5-hmC), 5-formylcytosine (5-foC), and 5-carboxylcytosine (5-caC), which constitutes the active DNA demethylation pathway in mammals. Owing to the extremely limited contents of endogenous 5-mC oxidation products, no reported method can directly determine all these cytosine modifications simultaneously.
