Glycosylphosphatidylinositol (GPI) anchoring is one of the conserved posttranslational modifications in eukaryotes that attach proteins to the plasma membrane. In fungi, in addition to plasma membrane GPI-anchored proteins (GPI-APs), some GPI-APs are specifically released from the cell membrane, secreted into the cell wall, and covalently linked to cell wall glucans as GPI-anchored cell wall proteins (GPI-CWPs). However, it remains unclear how fungal cells specifically release GPI-CWPs from their membranes.

The phylogenetic studies of the tribe Alsineae (Caryophyllaceae) have revealed a clearer boundary between the genus and related genera, primarily relying on the morphological characteristics of style 3, stamens 10 and petals deeply bifid. However, the newly-published species in China, which have 5 styles or ten or more lobes per petal, challenge this boundary and necessitate further studies. In this paper, we reviewed six newly-published Chinese species of , utilising both molecular phylogenetic evidence from nuclear ribosomal internal transcribed spacer (ITS) and four plastid regions (, , , ) and morphological evidence.

Shenzhen Key Laboratory of Advanced Thin Films and Applications, Key Laboratory of Optoelectronic Devices and Systems of Ministry of Education and Guangdong Province, State Key Laboratory of Radio Frequency Heterogeneous Integration, College of Physics and Optoelectronic Engineering, Shenzhen University Shenzhen 518060 China

Antimony sulfoselenide (Sb(S,Se)) is a promising sunlight absorber material for solar energy conversion in photovoltaic (PV) cells and photoelectrochemical (PEC) photoelectrodes due to its excellent photoelectric properties. However, the obtained thin-film and back contact properties significantly influence the PEC performance of photocathodes, causing severe bulk recombination, carrier transport loss, and deteriorating half-cell solar-to-hydrogen (HC-STH) efficiency. This study introduces an intriguing dual back interface engineering strategy for Sb(S,Se) photocathodes by incorporating an intermediate MoO layer and a secondary carrier transport channel of Au to strengthen charge carrier dynamics.

Article Synopsis
  • Salicylic acid (SA) is crucial for plant defense against certain pathogens, and its levels spike significantly at infection sites, yet how pathogens cope with this SA stress is still unclear.
  • Research identified a specific operon (Xcc4167-Xcc4171) in the pathogen Xcc that encodes a transcription factor (HepR) and an SA efflux pump (HepABCD), both of which play roles in sensing and evicting SA during infection.
  • The study concluded that HepR acts as a novel SA sensor that regulates the operon's expression, and the efflux pump is essential for Xcc's virulence in host plants like Chinese radish and cabbage.

The life cycle of genome builds spans interlocking pillars of assembly, annotation, and comparative genomics to drive biological insights. While tools exist to address each pillar separately, there is a growing need for tools to integrate different pillars of a genome project holistically. For example, comparative approaches can provide quality control of assembly or annotation; genome assembly, in turn, can help to identify artifacts that may complicate the interpretation of genome comparisons.

Article Synopsis
  • The freshwater fish genus being studied consists of 75 known species, making it the largest group of cavefish, exhibiting specific adaptations for living in cave environments, such as eye degeneration and skin depigmentation.
  • The research focuses on a peculiar behavior called wall-following (WF), which is thought to be more pronounced in eyeless species of cavefish compared to their normal- or micro-eyed counterparts.
  • Findings reveal that eyeless cavefish show significantly stronger wall-following behavior, indicating this trait is likely an ancestral behavior enhanced by adaptations for life in dark, subterranean habitats.

Insertion sequences (ISs) exist widely in bacterial genomes, but their roles in the evolution of bacterial antiphage defense remain to be clarified. Here, we report that, under the pressure of phage infection, the IS transposition of into the gene can occur at high frequencies, which endows the mutant mycobacterium with a broad-spectrum antiphage ability. Lsr2 functions as a negative regulator and directly silences expression of a gene island composed of 11 lipid metabolism-related genes.
