Breast cancer (BC) is considered as one the most prevalent cancers worldwide. Due to its high resistance to chemotherapy and high probability of metastasis, BC is one of the leading causes of cancer-related deaths. The controlled release of chemotherapy drugs to the precise site of the tumor tissue will increase the therapeutic efficacy and decrease side effects of systemic administration.

Postoperative Ratio of C-Reactive Protein to Albumin as a Predictive Marker in Patients with Crohn's Disease Undergoing Bowel Resection.

Gastroenterol Res Pract

February 2021

Department of General Surgery, Sir Run Run Shaw Hospital, School of Medicine, Zhejiang University, Hangzhou 310016, China.

Background: The ratio of C-reactive protein (CRP) to albumin (CAR) has a significant correlation with postoperative complications and acts as a predictor in patients with pancreatic cancer and colorectal cancer. However, whether the CAR can be used to predict complications in Crohn's disease (CD) patients after surgery has not yet been reported.

Methods: A total of 534 CD patients undergoing surgery between 2016 and 2020 were enrolled.

With Remdesivir being approved by FDA as a drug for the treatment of Corona Virus Disease 2019 (COVID-19), nucleoside drugs have once again received widespread attention in the medical community. Herein, we summarized modification of traditional nucleoside framework (sugar + base), traizole nucleosides, nucleoside analogues assembled by other drugs, macromolecule-modified nucleosides, and their bioactivity rules. 2'-"Ara"-substituted by -F or -CN group, and 3'-"ara" substituted by acetylenyl group can greatly influence their anti-tumor activities.

Preoperative Controlling Nutritional Status (CONUT) score predicts short-term outcomes of patients with gastric cancer after laparoscopy-assisted radical gastrectomy.

World J Surg Oncol

January 2021

Department of General Surgery, Sir Run Run Shaw Hospital, School of Medicine, Zhejiang University, 3 East Qingchun Road, Hangzhou, 310016, China.

Background: An emerging prediction tool, the Controlling Nutritional Status (CONUT) score, has shown good assessment ability of postoperative outcomes in cancer patients. This study evaluated the role of the preoperative CONUT score regarding the short-term outcomes of gastric cancer (GC) after laparoscopic gastrectomy.

Methods: Three hundred and nine GC patients undergoing laparoscopic gastrectomy from January 2016 to June 2019 were analysed, retrospectively.

A 13-Immune Gene Set Signature for Prediction of Colon Cancer Prognosis.

Comb Chem High Throughput Screen

March 2022

Department of Pharmacy, Guangxi University of Traditional Chinese Medicine, Nanning City, Guangxi Province, 530001,China.

Background: Colon cancer is one of the most common cancers worldwide and has a poor prognosis. Through the analysis of transcriptome and clinical data of colon cancer, an immune gene-set signature was identified by single sample enrichment analysis (ssGSEA) scoring to predict patient survival and discover new therapeutic targets.

Objective: To study the role of immune gene-set signature in colon cancer.

Background: Ulcerative colitis (UC) is an intestinal disease which was characterized by intestinal inflammation, mucosal injury and fibrosis. In this paper, the effect of Huanglian Jiedu Decoction (HJD), a well-known traditional Chinese medicine with significant anti-inflammatory effect, on dextran sulphate sodium (DSS)-induced UC in mice and inhibition of JAK2/STAT3 pathway were investigated.

Methods: BALB/c mice were randomly divided into 6 groups: HJD group (high, medium and low dose), USAN group, UC group, and control group.

BMC Plant Biol

April 2020

Key Laboratory for Silviculture and Conservation of Ministry of Education, Key Laboratory for Silviculture and Forest Ecosystem of State Forestry Administration, Research Center for Urban Forestry, Beijing Forestry University, Beijing, 100083, China.

Background: Response and adaptation strategies of plants to the environment have always been the core issues in ecological research. So far, relatively little study exists on its functional traits responses to warming, especially in an urban environment. This information is the key to help understand plant responses and trade-off strategy to urban warming.

Introduction: Endothelin receptor type B (EDNRB) is a potential target gene of miR-124-3p, but the association between miR-124-3p and EDNRB has not yet been reported. The aim of this study was to investigate the role of miR-124-3p in bladder cancer (BC) and to determine whether miR-124-3p regulates cell proliferation by targeting EDNRB.

Material And Methods: Bladder cancer tissues and cell lines were obtained in order to analyze the miR-124-3p and EDNRB expression through quantitative RT-PCR (qRT-PCR) and western blotting analysis.

Ufm1-Specific Ligase Ufl1 Regulates Endoplasmic Reticulum Homeostasis and Protects Against Heart Failure.

Circ Heart Fail

October 2018

Vascular Biology Center (J.L., G.Y., W.M., A.Z., J.Z., H.S.), Medical College of Georgia, Augusta University.

Background: Defects in protein homeostasis are sufficient to provoke cardiac remodeling and dysfunction. Although posttranslational modifications by ubiquitin and ubiquitin-like proteins are emerging as an important regulatory mechanism of protein function, the role of Ufm1 (ubiquitin-fold modifier 1)-a novel ubiquitin-like protein-has not been explored in either the normal or stressed heart.

Methods And Results: Western blotting revealed that Ufl1 (Ufm1-specific E3 ligase 1)-an enzyme essential for Ufm1 modification-was increased in hypertrophic mouse hearts but reduced in the failing hearts of patients with dilated cardiomyopathy.
