To explore whether DNA methylation of the ATP-binding cassette G1 (ABCG1) gene and its dynamic change are associated with incident type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM). We conducted a nested case-control study with 286 pairs of T2DM cases and matched controls nested in the Rural Chinese Cohort Study. Conditional logistic regression models were used to estimate odds ratios (ORs) and 95% confidence intervals (CIs) for incident T2DM risk according to ABCG1 methylation level at baseline and its dynamic change at follow-up examination.

Background: The evidence of the association between Chinese visceral adiposity index (CVAI) and risk of type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) is limited. We explored the association of CVAI with T2DM and directly compared with the predictive power of CVAI with other visceral obesity indices (visceral adiposity index, waist to height ratio, waist circumference and body mass index) based on a large prospective study.
Methods: We conducted a population-based study of 12 237 Chinese participants.

Although consumption of sugar-sweetened beverages (SSBs) and artificially sweetened beverages (ASBs) has increasingly been linked with obesity, type 2 diabetes mellitus, hypertension, and all-cause mortality, evidence remains conflicted and dose-response meta-analyses of the associations are lacking. We conducted an updated meta-analysis to synthesize the knowledge about their associations and to explore their dose-response relations. We comprehensively searched PubMed, EMBASE, Web of Science, and Open Grey up to September 2019 for prospective cohort studies investigating the associations in adults.

In April 2019, a suspect cluster of enterovirus cases was reported in a neonatology department in Guangdong, China, resulting in five deaths. We aimed to investigate the pathogen profiles in fatal cases, the circulation and transmission pattern of the viruses by combining metatranscriptomic, phylogenetic, and epidemiological analyses. Metatranscriptomic sequencing was used to characterize the enteroviruses.

Background: To report a quality control circle (QCC) activity on the theme of reducing the incidence of catheter-associated urinary tract infection (CAUTI), and used an interrupted time series analysis to evaluate the impact of the QCC.
Methods: In a general tertiary hospital in Shenzhen, China, we carried out a QCC activity with the theme of reducing CAUTI from April 2017 to December 2017. Before the QCC, we carried out the routine measures; during the QCC, we implemented usual measures and the countermeasures of QCC, and after the QCC, we performed the routine measures and adhered to the core measures of QCC.

Background: This study aims to estimate type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) incidence with DNA methylation of the thioredoxin-interacting protein (TXNIP) gene and its interaction with environmental factors.
Materials And Methods: This case-control study included 286 incident T2DM cases and 286 non-T2DM controls matched by sex, age, marital status, race, and residence village nested in the Rural Chinese Cohort Study. A conditional logistic regression model was used to estimate the association of DNA methylation at TXNIP gene with T2DM risk.
Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is one of the most common malignancies worldwide. The most important reason for the occurrence of HCC is hepatitis C or B infection. Moreover, genetic factors play an important role in the tumorigenesis of HCC.

Purpose: Long noncoding RNA PVT1 is dysregulated in some human tumors and has been found to increase the risk of tumor progression and poor prognosis. This study aimed to reanalyze the effect of PVT1 on tumorous prognosis.
Materials And Methods: The effect of PVT1 on metastasis and survival were analyzed by univariate logistic regression and Cox proportional hazards model for 32 types of cancer in the Cancer Genome Atlas database (TCGA), and the relationship between PVT1 level and expression of relative genes was assessed by Pearson correlation analysis.

Vast number of somatic mutations has been proved to be affected by the factors of sequencing methods, analysis pipelines and validation methods. We here showed the effect of autologous reference types on the detection of cancer-associated somatic mutations with the somatic single nucleotide variations (SNVs) and clinical data of solid tumors from the Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA) and International Cancer Genome Consortium (ICGC). The distribution of somatic SNVs was significantly different among groups of autologous references in 6 cancers detected by whole genome sequencing (WGS) and 5 cancers detected by the random sequencing of exonic regions selected from the genome (WXS), especially in protein coding region of 5 cancers with age, gender and TNM adjusted.

It is highly possible that copy number variations (CNVs) in susceptible regions have effects on chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) development, while long noncoding RNA (lncRNAs) have been shown to cause COPD. We hypothesized that the common CNV, named nsv823469 located on 6p22.1, and covering lncRNAs (major histocompatibility complex, class I, A (HLA-A) and HLA complex group 4B (HCG4B)) has an effect on COPD risk.

Single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) in the WW domain containing oxidoreductase (WWOX) gene were recently identified to be quantitative trait loci for lung function and thus likely to be susceptible biomarkers for COPD. However, the associations between WWOX SNPs and COPD risk are still unclear. Here, by conducting a two-center case-control study including 1511 COPD cases and 1677 controls and a family-based analysis comprising 95 nuclear pedigrees, we tested the associations between five SNPs that are rs10220974C >T, rs3764340C >G, rs12918952G >A, rs383362G >T, rs12828G >A of WWOX and COPD risk as well as the hereditary inclination of these loci among COPD families.
