Cartilage is solid connective tissue that recovers slowly from injury, and pain and dysfunction from cartilage damage affect many people. The treatment of cartilage injury is clinically challenging and there is no optimal solution, which is a hot research topic at present. With the rapid development of 3D printing technology in recent years, 3D bioprinting can better mimic the complex microstructure of cartilage tissue and thus enabling the anatomy and functional regeneration of damaged cartilage.

Purpose: Mitochondrial dysfunction mediated by c-Jun N-terminal kinase (JNK) plays an important role in lipotoxic liver injury in nonalcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH). This study aims to investigate the pharmacological mechanism of Jiangzhi Granule (JZG), a Chinese herbal formula against NASH, with a focus on its regulation of JNK signaling-mediated mitochondrial function.
Methods: Hepatocytes were induced by palmitic acid (PA) for 24 h to establish an in vitro lipotoxic model, which was simultaneously treated with either JZG or vehicle control.

The risk of infertility is progressively escalating over the years, and it has been established that exposure to environmental pollutants is closely linked to infertility. As a prevalent environmental pollutant in daily life, there is still a lack of substantial evidence on the association between volatile organic compounds (VOCs) exposure and infertility risk. This study aimed to examine the association between VOCs exposure and the risk of female infertility in the United States.

Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) is a highly prevalent and heterogeneous disease characterized by a combination of reproductive and endocrine abnormalities, often associated with metabolic and mental health disorders. The etiology and pathogenesis of PCOS remain unclear, but recent research has increasingly focused on the upstream mechanisms underlying its development. Among these, kisspeptin (KISS) signaling has emerged as a pivotal component in the regulation of the hypothalamic-pituitary-gonadal axis, with significant roles in reproductive function, energy regulation, and metabolism.

Background: Total knee arthroplasty (TKA) is an effective treatment for knee osteoarthritis, with postoperative bleeding and the inflammation-stress response being key factors that influence its outcomes. Tranexamic acid (TXA), an antifibrinolytic agent, has demonstrated efficacy in controlling perioperative bleeding. This study was to examine the effects of different doses of TXA on postoperative knee mobility and the inflammation-stress response in patients undergoing TKA METHODS: Ninety-eight patients undergoing unilateral TKA were randomly grouped based on the dose of TXA administered: 10 mg/kg (AG), 15 mg/kg (BG), and 20 mg/kg (CG).

In hemodialysis patients, blood pressure variability (BPV) is associated with cardiovascular events and all-cause mortality. However, previous research has predominantly concentrated on the predialysis BPV. In contrast, intradialytic BPV, reflecting the cardiovascular regulatory function during the process of rapid clearance of volume overload, holds greater relevance to the prognosis of patients.

This study investigated the mechanisms driving the induction and sustained presence of neutrophil extracellular traps (NETs) in the synovial microenvironment of rheumatoid arthritis (RA). Synovial tissue and fluid samples were collected from patients with RA and osteoarthritis (OA), and NET levels and cytokine concentrations were measured using a cytometric bead array and enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). The ability of interleukin-33 (IL-33) to induce NET formation was evaluated using quantitative assays, immunofluorescence staining, live-cell imaging, and electron microscopy.

Background: The relationship between high sodium intake (HSI) and hypertensive heart disease (HHD) has been confirmed. However, notable regional disparities exist in implementing effective measures to control sodium intake. This study was carried out to estimate the spatiotemporal trends in the burden of HHD attributable to HSI.

Ku70, a DNA repair protein, binds to the damaged DNA ends and orchestrates the recruitment of other proteins to facilitate repair of DNA double-strand breaks. Besides its essential role in DNA repair, several studies have highlighted nonclassical functions of Ku70 in cellular processes. However, its function in immune homeostasis and antitumor immunity remains unknown.

Objectives: Myocardial layer-specific strain is a sensitive tool for detecting myocardial dysfunction. The objective of this study was to assess changes in the left ventricle (LV) function using myocardial layer-specific strain and its association with 10-year atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease risk (10Y-ASCVDR) in individuals with hypertension (HP).
Methods: The parameters of LV structure, including layer-specific global longitudinal strain (GLS, GLS, GLS, GLS) and layer-specific global circumferential strain (GCS, GCS, GCS, GCS), were analyzed by two-dimensional speckle-tracking echocardiography in 239 hypertensive patients and 124 control subjects.
