Human gut Bacteroides and Parabacteroides species play crucial roles in human health and are known for their capacity to utilize diverse polysaccharides. Understanding how these bacteria utilize medicinal polysaccharides is foundational for developing polysaccharides-based prebiotics and drugs. Here, we systematically mapped the utilization profiles of 20 different medicinal polysaccharides by 28 human gut Bacteroides and Parabacteroides species.

Cardiac fibrosis characterized by aberrant activation of cardiac fibroblasts impairs cardiac contractile and diastolic functions, inducing the progression of the disease towards its terminal phase, resulting in the onset of heart failure. Therefore, the inhibition of cardiac fibrosis has become a promising treatment for cardiac diseases. The ovarian follicle-stimulating hormone folliculin (FLCN) plays a significant role in various biological processes, such as lysosome function, mitochondrial synthesis, angiogenesis, ciliogenesis and autophagy.

Introduction: Early prediction of multiple organ dysfunction syndrome (MODS) secondary to severe heat stroke (SHS) is crucial for improving patient outcomes. This study aims to develop and validate a risk prediction model for those patients based on immediate assessment indicators on ICU admission.
Methods: Two hundred eighty-four cases with SHS in our hospital between July 2009 and April 2024 were retrospectively reviewed, and categorized into non-MODS and MODS groups.

Background: Heat stroke (HS), a potentially fatal heat-related illness, is often accompanied by disseminated intravascular coagulation (DIC) early, resulting in a poorer prognosis. Unfortunately, diagnosis by current DIC scores is often too late to identify DIC. This study aims to investigate the predictors and predictive model of DIC in HS to identify DIC early.

Colorectal cancer (CRC) is one of the top three most lethal malignancies worldwide, posing a significant threat to human health. Recently proposed immunotherapy checkpoint blockade treatments have proven effective for CRC, but their use depends on measuring specific biomarkers in patients. Among these biomarkers, tumor mutational burden (TMB) has emerged as a novel indicator, traditionally requiring next-generation sequencing for measurement, which is time-consuming, labor intensive, and costly.

Curcumae Longae Rhizoma (CLRh), Curcumae Radix (CRa), and Curcumae Rhizoma (CRh), derived from the different medicinal parts of the species, are blood-activating analgesics commonly used for promoting blood circulation and relieving pain. Due to their certain similarities in chemical composition and pharmacological effects, these three herbs exhibit a high risk associated with mixing and indiscriminate use. The diverse methods used for distinguishing the medicinal origins are complex, time-consuming, and limited to intraspecific differentiation, which are not suitable for rapid and systematic identification.

Background: An increased risk of multiple secondary diseases has been observed in individuals with diabetes, which contributes to the growing economic burden. Few studies have established the connection of blood urea nitrogen/albumin (BAR) with diabetes, and its link to subsequent diabetic complications and mortality remains unclear. We aimed to explore the association of BAR with the onset of type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) and its dynamic progression.

Clinical studies have suggested that tirzepatide may also possess hepatoprotective effects; however, the molecular mechanisms underlying this association remain unclear. In our study, we performed biochemical analyses of serum and histopathological examinations of liver tissue in mice. To preliminarily explore the molecular mechanisms of tirzepatide on metabolic dysfunction-associated fatty liver disease (MAFLD), liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry (LC-MS) was employed for comprehensive metabolomic, lipidomic, and proteomic analyses in MAFLD mice fed a high-fat diet (HFD).

Introduction: Neuroinflammation derived from the activation of the microglia is considered a vital pathogenic factor of Alzheimer's Disease (AD). T-006, a tetramethylpyrazine derivative, has been found to alleviate cognitive deficits via inhibiting tau expression and phosphorylation in AD transgenic mouse models. Recently, T-006 has been proven to dramatically decrease the levels of total Amyloid β (Aβ) peptide and Glial Fibrillary Acidic Protein (GFAP) and suppress the expression of ionized calcium binding adaptor molecule-1 (Iba-1) in APP/PS1 mice.

Hyperactivation of ribosome biogenesis (RiBi) drives cancer progression, yet the role of RiBi-associated proteins (RiBPs) in breast cancer (BC) is underexplored. In this study, we perform a comprehensive multi-omics analysis and reveal that assembly and maturation factors (AMFs), a subclass of RiBPs, are upregulated at both RNA and protein levels in BC, correlating with poor patient outcomes. In contrast, ribosomal proteins (RPs) do not show systematic upregulation across various cancers, including BC.

Although fluorescence analysis methods are widely used in pesticide residue detection, improving their sensitivity and selectivity remains a challenge. This paper presents a novel ratio fluorescence sensor based on the molecular imprinting polymers (MIPs) and metal-enhanced fluorescence for visual detection of dicamba (DIC). Calcium fluoride (CaF) quantum dots (QDs) were immobilized on the surface of Ag@MIPs, resulting in a blue fluorescence response signal (Ag@MIPs-CaF).

Porous activated carbons (AC-AN and AC-AO) for toluene adsorption were prepared starting from brewer's grain biomass pretreated with microorganisms ( van Tieghem for AC-AN and RIB40 for AC-AO). The structures and chemical properties of the three activated carbon materials (AC-AN, AC-AO, and AC that was not pretreated with microorganisms) were characterized by N adsorption-desorption isotherms, scanning electron microscopy (SEM), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), Raman spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction (XRD), and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS). The adsorption behavior of the three activated carbons for toluene was studied and correlated with the physical and chemical properties of these materials.

Plateau hyperuricemia is a common disease in the plateau area, and the incidence is much higher than that in the plain area. Dioscin (DIO) and its active metabolite Diosgenin (DG) exert therapeutic effects on hyperuricemia through oxidative stress and inflammation. In this study, DIO and its active metabolite DG were taken as the research objects to explore their therapeutic effects on high-altitude hyperuricemia in rats.
