Article Synopsis
  • The study focuses on assessing the effectiveness and side effects of combining camrelizumab, an anti-PD-1 antibody, with chemotherapy for patients with early or locally advanced triple-negative breast cancer.
  • The phase 3 trial involved 441 patients from various hospitals in China, where they were randomly assigned to receive either camrelizumab or a placebo along with standard chemotherapy over several weeks.
  • Results showed a higher rate of pathological complete response—meaning no invasive tumors were detected—in the camrelizumab group (56.8%) compared to the placebo group (44.7%), indicating camrelizumab may enhance the effectiveness of chemotherapy.

Embryo quality is a critical determinant of clinical outcomes in assisted reproductive technology (ART). A recent clinical trial investigating preimplantation DNA methylation screening (PIMS) revealed that whole genome DNA methylation level is a novel biomarker for assessing ART embryo quality. Here, we reinforced and estimated the clinical efficacy of PIMS.

State Key Lab of Respiratory Disease, Institute for Chemical Carcinogenesis, Collaborative Innovation Center for Environmental Toxicity, School of Public Health, Guangzhou Medical University, 1 Xinzao Road, Xinzao, Panyu District, Guangzhou, 511436, China.

Background: The epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT) plays an indispensable role in the development and progression of Endometrial cancer (EC). Nevertheless, little evidence is reported to uncover the functionality and application of EMT-related molecules in the prognosis of EC. This study aims to develop novel molecular markers for prognosis prediction in patients with EC.

A novel LINC00478 serves as a tumor suppressor in endometrial carcinoma progression.

J Cancer Res Clin Oncol

November 2023

State Key Lab of Respiratory Disease, Institute for Chemical Carcinogenesis, Collaborative Innovation Center for Environmental Toxicity, School of Public Health, Guangzhou Medical University, 1 Xinzao Road, Panyu District, Guangzhou, 511436, People's Republic of China.

Background: Long noncoding RNAs (lncRNAs) are involved in the pathogenesis and progression of various cancers, but their roles in endometrial cancer (EC) are largely unknown.

Methods: The expressions of LINC00478 and PTBP1 in EC tissues were determined by RT-qPCR. Cell counting kit-8, flow cytometry and Transwell assays were executed for detecting the roles of LINC00478 in EC cells proliferation, migration and invasion.

Electronic address:

Amino acid (aa) metabolism is closely correlated with the pathogenesis of psoriasis; however, details on aa transportation during this process are barely known. Here, we find that SLC38A5, a sodium-dependent neutral aa transporter that counter-transports protons, is markedly upregulated in the psoriatic skin of both human patients and mouse models. SLC38A5 deficiency significantly ameliorates the pathogenesis of psoriasis, indicating a pathogenic role of SLC38A5.

Background: The presence of alveolar epithelial type II cells (AECIIs) is one of the most important causes of bronchopulmonary dysplasia (BPD). Exosomes from bone mesenchymal stem cells (BMSCs) can reduce hyperoxia-induced damage and provide better results in terms of alveolar and pulmonary vascularization parameters than BMSCs. Currently, intervention studies using BMSC-derived exosomes on the signaling pathways regulating proliferation and apoptosis of alveolar epithelial cells under the condition of BPD have not been reported.

Aiming at the difficulty in setting the support threshold for sequential pattern mining algorithms and improving the effectiveness of the support threshold setting without the guidance of domain experts' experience, an improved SPADE (sequential pattern discovery using equivalence classes) algorithm is proposed. By analyzing the relationship between the number of frequent sequences and the support threshold, the support threshold is dynamically selected. Using the electronic medical record data from a medical centre, the time-series relationship of the drugs taken by hypertension patients was extracted as the drug sequence dataset.

Objective: To compare the pregnancy outcomes of radiofrequency ablation (RFA) for complicated multiple pregnancies between fetal abdominal and dorsal needle insertion angles.

Methods: We performed a historical cohort study of patients who underwent selective reduction using RFA through different needle insertion angles from 2015 to 2018 at a local hospital. Dorsal needle insertion cases were consecutively selected and abdominal needle insertion cases were selectively enrolled.

BACKGROUND Numerous studies have explored diagnosis of pulmonary nodules using perfusion computed tomography (CT); however, findings were not always consistent between studies. Th e present study aimed to summarize evidence on the diagnostic value of perfusion CT for distinguishing between lung cancer and benign lesions. MATERIAL AND METHODS We performed a systematic literature search on lung cancer and benign pulmonary lesions performed with perfusion CT.

Background: Alloanti-M was once regarded as not clinically significant, with a few exceptions in extremely rare cases. However, an increasing number of cases of severe hemolytic disease of the fetus and newborn (HDFN), resulting in fetal hydrops and recurrent abortion caused by alloanti-M, have been reported mainly in the Asian population.

Study Design And Methods: Three pregnant Chinese women with a history of abnormal pregnancy with hydrops fetalis were encountered.

The aim of the present study was to measure the prevalence of multimorbidity in Bangladesh, India and China, and to assess the relationship between multimorbidity and patient's opinion regarding their involvement in healthcare decision-making and overall satisfaction of healthcare system. Cross-sectional data on 18 696 men and women aged 18 and above were collected from the World Health Survey of World Health Organization (WHO). Outcome variables were subjective rating of (1) healthcare system's ability to involve patients in decision-making, and (2) satisfaction with the way healthcare system runs in the country.

SphK1 confers resistance to apoptosis in gastric cancer cells by downregulating Bim via stimulating Akt/FoxO3a signaling.

October 2014

Key Laboratory of Tropical Disease Control, Ministry of Education, Sun Yat-Sen University, Guangzhou, Guangdong 510080, P.R. China.

We previously reported that sphingosine kinase 1 (SphK1), an enzyme that catalyzes the production of sphingosine-1-phosphate (SIP), is upregulated in human gastric cancer and predicts poor clinical outcome. In the present study, we used known differential effects of UV irradiation on human MGC-803 gastric cancer cells to determine their effect on SphK1 activity. Ectopic expression of SphK1 in MGC-803 gastric cancer cells markedly enhanced their resistance to UV irradiation, whereas silencing endogenous SphK1 with shRNAs weakened this ability.

Objective: To detect the expession of THY1 in ovarian serous cystadenocarcinoma tissues.

Methods: Immunohistochemistry was performed to detect the expression of THY1 gene in formalin-fixed, paraffin-embedded specimens of normal ovaries (n = 25), ovarian serous cystadenoma (n = 25), and serous cystadenocarcinoma (n = 53). The correlation of THY1 expression with clinicopathological parameters was statistically analyzed.
