Strong metal-support interactions (SMSIs) are essential for optimizing the performance of supported metal catalysts by tuning the metal-oxide interface structures. This study explores the hydrogenation of CO to methanol over Cu-supported catalysts, focusing on the synergistic effects of strong metal-support interaction (SMSI) and oxygen vacancies introduced by the CO treatment to the catalysts on the catalytic performance. Cu nanoparticles were immobilized on Mg-Al layered double oxide (LDO) supports and modified with nitrate ions to promote oxygen vacancy generation.

This review article presents a detailed examination of the integral role that electrochemical detection of extracellular vesicles (EVs) plays, particularly focusing on the potential application for early disease diagnostics through EVs biomarker analysis. Through an exploration of the benefits and challenges presented by electrochemical detection vetted for protein, lipid, and nucleic acid biomarker analysis, we underscore the significance of these techniques. Evidence from recent studies renders this detection modality imperative in identifying diverse biomarkers from EVs, leading to early diagnosis of diseases such as cancer and neurodegenerative disorders.

D-Ribose plays fundamental roles in all living organisms and has been applied in food, cosmetics, health care, and pharmaceutical sectors. At present, D-ribose is predominantly produced by microbial fermentation based on the pentose phosphate pathway (PPP). However, this method suffers from a long synthetic pathway, severe growth defect of the host cell, and carbon catabolite repression (CCR).

Supported metal catalysts are essential to a plethora of processes in the chemical industry. The overall performance of these catalysts depends strongly on the interaction of adsorbates at the atomic level, which can be manipulated and controlled by the different constituents of the active material (, support and active metal). The description of catalyst activity and the relationship between active constituent and the support, or metal-support interactions (MSI), in heterogeneous (thermo)catalysts is a complex phenomenon with multivariate (dependent and independent) contributions that are difficult to disentangle, both experimentally and theoretically.

Developing high-performance Pt-based catalysts with low Pt loading is crucial but challenging for CO oxidation at temperatures below 100 °C. Herein, we report a Pt-based catalyst with only a 0.15 wt% Pt loading, which consists of Pt-Ti intermetallic single-atom alloy (ISAA) and Pt nanoparticles (NP) co-supported on a defective TiO support, achieving a record high turnover frequency of 11.

Thermal treatment of food can lead to the formation of potentially harmful chemicals, known as process contaminants. These are adventitious contaminants that are formed in food during processing and preparation. Various food processing techniques, such as heating, drying, grilling, and fermentation, can generate hazardous chemicals such as acrylamide (AA), advanced glycation end products (AGEs), heterocyclic aromatic amines (HAAs), furan, polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs), N-nitroso compounds (NOCs), monochloropropane diols (MCPD) and their esters (MCPDE) which can be detrimental to human health.

Dietary fibers have attracted much attention due to their multiple benefits on gut health. In this work, the protective mechanism of dietary fiber from sweetpotato residues (SRDF) on the high-fat diet (HFD)-induced intestinal barrier injury was investigated using microbiome-metabolomics-based approach. The physicochemical property analysis demonstrated a thermal stability below 200 °C and porous pectin-polysaccharide structure of SRDF with high in vitro functional activities.

Bidirectional haptic communication devices accelerate the revolution of virtual/augmented reality and flexible/wearable electronics. As an emerging kind of flexible piezoelectric materials, piezoelectret materials can effortlessly convert mechanical force into electrical signals and respond to electrical fields in a deformation manner, exhibiting enormous potential in the construction of bidirectional haptic communication devices. Existing reviews on piezoelectret materials primarily focus on flexible energy harvesters and sensors, and the recent development of piezoelectret-based bidirectional haptic communication devices has not been comprehensively reviewed.

Methylated natural products are widely spread in nature. -Adenosyl-l-methionine (SAM) is the secondary abundant cofactor and the primary methyl donor, which confer natural products with structural and functional diversification. The increasing demand for SAM-dependent natural products (SdNPs) has motivated the development of microbial cell factories (MCFs) for sustainable and efficient SdNP production.

Cardiac monitoring after heart surgeries is crucial for health maintenance and detecting postoperative complications early. However, current methods like rigid implants have limitations, as they require performing second complex surgeries for removal, increasing infection and inflammation risks, thus prompting research for improved sensing monitoring technologies. Herein, we introduce a nanosensor platform that is biodegradable, biocompatible, and integrated with multifunctions, suitable for use as implants for cardiac monitoring.

Wind-energy-harvesting generators based on inverted flag architecture are an attractive option to replace batteries in low-power wireless electronic devices and deploy-and-forget distributed sensors. This study examines two important aspects that have been overlooked in previous research: the interaction between an inverted flag and a neighboring solid boundary and the interaction among multiple contiguous inverted flags arranged in a vertical row. Systematic tests have been carried out with metal-only 'baseline' flags as well as a 'harvester' variant, i.

Mesocrystals (MCs) with high-index facets may have superior catalytic properties to those with low-index facets and their nanocrystal counterparts. However, synthesizing such mesocrystal materials is still very challenging because of the metastability of MCs and energetic high-index crystal facets. This work reports a successful solvothermal method followed by calcination for synthesizing copper oxide-based MCs possessing a core-shell structure (denoted as Cu O@CuO HIMCs).
