Article Synopsis
  • Emulsified isoflurane was developed to address the limitations of traditional inhalation anesthetics, specifically their slower onset and higher drug usage, and this study aims to evaluate its efficacy and safety compared to propofol for anesthesia induction in adults.
  • In a randomized phase III clinical trial involving 416 patients, both emulsified isoflurane and propofol were administered at different dosages, with success measured via sedation scores and the avoidance of additional sedatives.
  • Results indicated that emulsified isoflurane achieved successful anesthesia induction in 100% of patients, demonstrating it is non-inferior to propofol, and it also showed safety through the monitoring of adverse events and vital signs.

Breast cancer (BC) is a serious global challenge, and depression is one of the risk factors and comorbidities of BC. Recently, the research on the comorbidity of BC and depression has focused on the dysfunction of the hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal axis and the persistent stimulation of the inflammatory response. However, the further mechanisms for comorbidity remain unclear.

Brachial plexus root avulsion (BPRA) is frequently caused by high-energy trauma including traffic accident and birth trauma, which will induces massive motoneurons (MNs) death as well as loss of motor and sensory function in the upper limb. The death of MNs is attributed to energy deficiency, neuroinflammation and oxidative stress at the injured ventral horn of spinal cord triggered by BPRA injury. It has been reported which aldose reductase (AR), an endogenous enzyme that catalyzes fructose synthesis, positively correlates with the poor prognosis following cerebral ischemic injury, diabetic retinopathy and diabetic peripheral neuropathy.

Article Synopsis
  • - The study investigated the efficacy and safety of a new anesthetic called remimazolam compared to propofol during fiberoptic bronchoscopy, using a randomized clinical trial with 154 subjects.
  • - Results showed that both anesthetics were effective, with remimazolam having a similar sedative effect but slightly longer times for loss of consciousness and awakening compared to propofol.
  • - Importantly, remimazolam demonstrated lower rates of hypotension and injection pain than propofol, suggesting it may be a safer option for patients undergoing bronchoscopy.

Aims And Objectives: This study aimed to construct a structural equation model guided by the ecological model to explore the factors influencing health behaviour among hypertensive stroke patients 6 months post-stroke.

Background: Health behaviour is important for recurrence prevention in hypertensive stroke patients. Moreover, previous studies have indicated that health behaviour at the end of the recovery period is of particular concern.

Background: Generalized anxiety disorder (GAD) is a chronic disorder characterized by excessive, pervasive, persistent worrying that is difficult to control. Jiuwei Zhenxin granules may be safer and more effective than non-benzodiazepine anti-anxiety drugs for treating GAD. This study aimed to assess the efficacy and safety of Jiuwei Zhenxin granules alone or in combination with the benzodiazepine alprazolam.

Background: Type 2 diabetes (T2D) is a prevalent chronic disease with elusive. Combining transcriptome and single-cell sequencing data to explore biomarkers of T2D could provide new insights into the in-depth understanding of the molecular mechanisms and diagnosis of T2D.

Methods: The GSE41762 dataset including RNA-seq data for healthy and T2D patients, was obtained from the Gene Expression Omnibus (GEO) database.

Background: This study aimed to determine the main active ingredients of the Ginseng-Gegen (Panax Ginseng-Radix Puerariae) drug pair, to predict relevant action targets, and to establish a network of "drug-active ingredients-targets", to ultimately explore the mechanism of Ginseng-Gegen in the treatment of mesenteric lymphadenitis.

Methods: The Traditional Chinese Medicine Systems Pharmacology (TCMSP) platform was used to screen the chemical constituents of Ginseng-Gegen, and the active ingredient targets were retrieved by UniProt database. The databases of GeneCards and the Online Mendelian Inheritance in Man (OMIM) were applied to search for mesenteric lymphadenitis-related targets.

Purpose: To analyse the clinical efficacy of biofeedback electrical stimulation combined with doxycycline in the treatment of type IIIA chronic prostatitis.

Methods: Eighty patients who met the diagnostic criteria of type IIIA chronic prostatitis in our hospital between February 2020 and February 2022 were selected and equally divided into the drug group and electrical stimulation group according to the random number table method. The drug group was treated with medication alone for 4 weeks; the electrostimulation group was treated with biofeedback electrostimulation on top of medication for 12 weeks.

Background: Colorectal cancer liver metastasis (CRLM) is a high degree of malignancy with rapid disease progression and has a poor prognosis. Both serum apolipoprotein A-I (ApoA-I) and neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio (NLR) play key roles in anti-inflammation and antitumor. This study is aimed at evaluating the implication of serum ApoA-I level in combination with NLR in the prognosis of CRLM.

Assessing the causal association between human blood metabolites and the risk of epilepsy.

J Transl Med

September 2022

Department of Neurology, Guangzhou Women and Children's Medical Center, Guangzhou Medical University, Guangzhou, Guangdong, China.

Background: Metabolic disturbance has been reported in patients with epilepsy. Still, the evidence about the causal role of metabolites in facilitating or preventing epilepsy is lacking. Systematically investigating the causality between blood metabolites and epilepsy would help provide novel targets for epilepsy screening and prevention.

Background: Drug coated balloon (DCB) angioplasty can provide sustained anti-restenotic efficacy without the limitations of permanent vascular implantation and is presumably ideal for treating intracranial atherosclerotic disease. However, the safety of paclitaxel in the neurovasculature remains a concern.

Methods: 242 patients with angiographically verified symptomatic stenosis >70% in intracranial arteries treated with DCB angioplasty were reviewed divided into two groups: group A, patients with stenotic intracranial arteries; and group B, patients with acute, subacute, or chronic occluded intracranial arteries.

Vanillic acid, a phenolic compound mainly obtained from the foot of Pennell, has been demonstrated to possess a cardiovascular-protective effect in previous studies. However, there is lack of research on vanillic acid protecting cardiomyocytes from oxidative stress injury by mediating mitophagy. In the present study, oxidative stress injury in the H9c2 cell line was induced by HO.

Background: Ochronotic arthropathy (OcA) is a rare disease, which is caused by the accumulation of homogentisic acid in the joint. Patients with OcA have obvious joint pain and the disease progresses rapidly, eventually resulting in disability. Arthroplasty is an efficacious treatment in patients with OcA.

Objectives: Evaluation of the clinical performance of ultra-low-dose computed tomography (CT) images of the shoulder joint on image-based diagnosis and three-dimensional (3D) printing surgical planning.

Materials And Methods: A total of 93 patients with displaced shoulder fractures were randomly divided into standard-dose, low-dose, and ultra-low-dose groups. Three-dimensional printing models of all patients' shoulder joints were fabricated.

Objective: To explore the feasibility of the three-dimensional printing (3DP) knee model using the ultra-low-dose computed tomography (CT) scan for preoperative planning and simulated surgery.

Methods: Thirty-six patients were divided into the standard-dose protocol group (A) and ultra-low-dose protocol group (B). The anteroposterior diameter, left and right diameter of femur, anteroposterior diameter of tibial plateau (APTP), left and right diameter, distance from the intercondylar ridge to tibial tuberosity, lower femur angle, and upper tibial angle were measured on CT images.

Stable angina is a common condition with high morbidity and mortality rates. It has been reported that combining oral Chinese patent medicines (OCPMs) and Western medicine (WM) could potentially achieve a better effect than WM alone. However, the optimal OCPMs for stable angina remain controversial and merit further empirical research.
