Four-membered carbocycles are fundamental substructures in bioactive molecules and approved drugs and serve as irreplaceable building blocks in organic synthesis. However, developing efficient protocols furnishing diversified four-membered ring compounds in a highly regio-, diastereo-, and enantioselective fashion remains challenging but very desirable. Here, we report the unprecedented asymmetric transfer hydrogenation of cyclobutenediones.

Article Synopsis
  • Giant cerebral cavernous malformations (GCCMs) are rare and have unique imaging characteristics, which were studied in a group of 12 patients through CT and MRI analyses.
  • Most GCCMs appeared as oval masses with high-density calcifications and showed signs of hemorrhage and hemosiderin deposition on imaging, contributing to their misdiagnosis.
  • The varying shapes and intensities of these lesions were often confused with other types of tumors, highlighting the importance of recognizing the specific imaging features of GCCMs for accurate diagnosis.

Psoriasis (PSO) is a common skin disease affecting approximately 1%-3% of the population, and the incidence rate is increasing yearly. PSO is associated with a dramatically increased risk of cardiovascular disease, the most common of which is atherosclerosis (AS). In the past, inflammation was considered to be the triggering factor of the two comorbidities, but in recent years, studies have found that lipid metabolism disorders increase the probability of atherosclerosis in patients with psoriasis.

Background: Numerous studies have explored care interventions to improve the psychological outcome of intensive care unit (ICU) patients, but inconclusive evidence makes it difficult for decision-makers, managers, and clinicians to get familiar with all available literature and find appropriate interventions. This umbrella review aimed to analyze the relationship between care intervention and psychological outcomes of ICU patients based on existing systematic reviews.

Methods: An umbrella review of evidence across systematic reviews and meta-analyses published between 1987 and 2023 was undertaken.

Diagnosing and grading gastric atrophy and intestinal metaplasia using semi-supervised deep learning on pathological images: development and validation study.

Gastric Cancer

March 2024

Beijing Key Laboratory of Functional Gastrointestinal Disorders Diagnosis and Treatment of Traditional Chinese Medicine; Department of Gastroenterology, Wangjing Hospital, China Academy of Chinese Medical Sciences, No. 6, Zhonghuan South Road, Wangjing, Beijing, 100102, China.

Objective: Patients with gastric atrophy and intestinal metaplasia (IM) were at risk for gastric cancer, necessitating an accurate risk assessment. We aimed to establish and validate a diagnostic approach for gastric biopsy specimens using deep learning and OLGA/OLGIM for individual gastric cancer risk classification.

Methods: In this study, we prospectively enrolled 545 patients suspected of atrophic gastritis during endoscopy from 13 tertiary hospitals between December 22, 2017, to September 25, 2020, with a total of 2725 whole-slide images (WSIs).

Background And Aims: Cognitive impairment (CI) is a prevalent condition in patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD), who face an elevated risk of developing cognitive decline. The fundamental mechanism underlying CI is linked to chronic inflammation, which can be gauged by the Dietary Inflammatory Index (DII). The DII is categorized into anti-inflammatory diets with lower scores and pro-inflammatory diets with higher scores.

Background: The widespread use of vaccines against the novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19) has become one of the most effective means to establish a population immune barrier. Patients with cancer are vulnerable to COVID-19 infection, adverse events, and high mortality, and should be the focus of epidemic prevention and treatment. However, real-world data on the safety of vaccines for patients with breast cancer are still scarce.

Molnupiravir, an urgently approved drug during the Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic, serves as the basis for our study, which relies on the Food and Drug Administration Adverse Event Reporting System (FAERS). The objective is to extract adverse event (AE) signals associated with molnupiravir from the FAERS database, thereby providing a reference for post-marketing monitoring of adverse events. Specifically, we extracted individual case safety reports (ICSRs) from the database, focusing on cases with COVID-19 indications and molnupiravir identified as the primary suspect drug.

Copper-Catalyzed Umpolung Reactivity of Propargylic Carbonates in the Presence of Diboronates: One Stone Four Birds.

J Am Chem Soc

December 2023

State Key Laboratory of Structural Chemistry, and Key Laboratory of Coal to Ethylene Glycol and Its Related Technology, Center for Excellence in Molecular Synthesis, Fujian Institute of Research on the Structure of Matter, University of Chinese Academy of Sciences, Fuzhou 350100, China.

Allylation and propargylation are two powerful synthetic strategies for making new substances that have been of significant importance in chemistry, medicine, and material fields. Conventional tactics employ various preformed allylation and propargylation reagents. In this study, a conceptually novel copper-catalyzed and Bpin-mediated Umpolung reactivity of propargylic carbonates has been achieved for the first time, realizing both allylation and propargylation of aldehydes and ketones without additional reductants.

Guangdong Lung Cancer Institute, Guangdong Provincial People's Hospital (Guangdong Academy of Medical Sciences), Southern Medical University, Guangzhou, People's Republic of China. Electronic address:

Introduction: EGFR C797X (C797S or C797G) mutation is the most frequent on-target mechanism of resistance to osimertinib. The hypothesis that the allelic context of C797X/T790M has implications for treatment is on the basis of sporadic reports and needs validation with larger cohorts.

Methods: We identified patients with EGFR C797X-mutant NSCLC from nine centers who progressed on osimertinib, all analyzed in a single laboratory through next-generation sequencing.
