Myocardial remodeling (MR) following myocardial infarction (MI) contributes to heart failure. Inflammation is a key determinant in cardiac remodeling, with potential prognostic improvements by inhibiting inflammatory factors. Pattern recognition receptors, including interferon gamma-inducible protein-16 (IFI-16), play significant roles in this process, yet its specific involvement remains underexplored.

Recent evidence suggests that immune thrombocytopenia (ITP), a common bleeding disorder, is linked to an imbalance in macrophage polarization and impaired bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells (BMSCs). However, the relationship between macrophage polarization imbalance and functional defects in BMSCs, as well as the involvement of associated molecules in BMSCs' defects, is not well understood. This study aimed to investigate the regulatory effects of high mobility group protein 1 (HMGB1) on the physiological functions of BMSCs, specifically in relation to macrophage polarization imbalance.

Eur Arch Otorhinolaryngol

December 2024

Department of Radiology, Shenzhen Children's Hospital, Shenzhen, 518000, China.

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to explore the characteristics of external auditory canal cholesteatoma (EACC) among children and to describe its radiological findings on high-resolution computed tomography (CT) of the temporal bone in order to improve the diagnostic accuracy of primary EACC.

Methods: The clinical records and CT imaging features of 44 patients who were diagnosed with EACC between January 2017 and May 2022 at Shenzhen Children's Hospital were retrospectively reviewed. Clinical features, including external auditory canal wall findings, hearing damage, symptoms and physical examination findings, were analysed against the level of lesion involvement.

Chorea-acanthocytosis (ChAc) is a rare, neurodegenerative disorder caused by mutations in the VPS13A gene. In this article, we report on a 32-year-old man diagnosed with ChAc, with involuntary movements of the mouth and trunk, drooling of the mouth, slurred speech, and abnormal vocalizations as the main clinical manifestations. Three weeks after implantation of globus pallidus internal (GPi)-deep brain stimulation (DBS), the patient's symptoms improved significantly.

Article Synopsis
  • Numerous observational studies indicate a potential link between psoriasis (PsO), psoriatic arthritis (PsA), and various autoimmune diseases (AIDs), but causation has not been established.
  • A Mendelian Randomization study analyzed associations between PsO/PsA and AIDs like Crohn's disease, vitiligo, and systemic lupus erythematosus, utilizing several statistical models to ensure the findings were robust.
  • The study found that Crohn's disease and vitiligo could be risk factors for developing PsO, while Crohn's disease, Hashimoto's thyroiditis, rheumatoid arthritis, ankylosing spondylitis, and other conditions may increase the risk for PsA.

Electronic address:

Human adenovirus (HAdV) pneumonia poses a major health burden for young children, however, factors that contribute to disease severity remain elusive. We analyzed immune cells from bronchoalveolar lavage (BAL) of children with HAdV pneumonia and found that CD19CD21 B cells were significantly enriched in the BAL and were associated with increased autoantibody concentrations and disease severity. Myeloid cells, PD-1CD4 T helper cells and CD21 B cells formed tertiary lymphoid structures within the respiratory tracts.

June 2024

Center for Studies of Psychological Application, Guangdong Key Laboratory of Mental Health and Cognitive Science, and School of Psychology, South China Normal University, Guangzhou, 510631, China.

Purpose: This study for the first time delves into the intricate relationship between scientific literacy and the acceptance of traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) by employing a multigroup path analysis based on the Unified Theory of Acceptance and Use of Technology (UTAUT) model. We adopted Scientific Epistemology Belief (SEB) as an indicator for measuring scientific literacy due to its comprehensive reflection of individuals' understanding of scientific knowledge and knowing. In assessing TCM acceptance, we focused on Chinese parents' receptivity towards pediatric TCM, as it offers a more genuine representation of actual inclinations.

Regio- and Stereoselective Transfer Hydrogenation of Aryloxy Group-Substituted Unsymmetrical 1,2-Diketones: Synthetic Applications and Mechanistic Studies.

J Am Chem Soc

July 2024

State Key Laboratory of Structural Chemistry, Center for Excellence in Molecular Synthesis, Fujian Institute of Research on the Structure of Matter, Fujian College, University of Chinese Academy of Sciences, Fuzhou 350100, China.

Developing a general method that leads to the formation of different classes of chiral bioactive compounds and their stereoisomers is an attractive but challenging research topic in organic synthesis. Furthermore, despite the great value of asymmetric transfer hydrogenation (ATH) in both organic synthesis and the pharmaceutical industry, the monohydrogenation of unsymmetrical 1,2-diketones remains underdeveloped. Here, we report the aryloxy group-assisted highly regio-, diastereo-, and enantioselective ATH of racemic 1,2-diketones.
