Background: Germline BRCA2 mutation is associated with an aggressive prostate cancer phenotype and indicates higher risk for hereditary cancer. Recently, numerous studies have attempted to identify the genomic landscape of prostate cancer to better understand the genomic drivers of this disease and look for the molecular targets to guide treatment selection.

Case Presentation: We report a 67-year-old patient diagnosed with prostate cancer who experienced rapid disease progression after androgen deprivation therapy and subsequent docetaxel treatment.

Although previous studies have shown that certain factors interfere with the sensitivity of propofol, the mechanisms for interindividual variability in response to propofol remain unclear. This study aimed to screen the metabolites to predict patients' sensitivity to propofol and to identify metabolic pathways to explore possible mechanisms associated with propofol resistance. Sera from 40 female patients undergoing elective hysteroscopic surgery in a prospective cohort propofol study were obtained before the administration of propofol.

Psoralen (PSO) exerts anti‑inflammatory pharmacological effects and plays an important role in a variety of inflammatory diseases. However, the effects of PSO with allergic rhinitis (AR) are yet to be reported. In the present study, an AR model was generated by inducing JME/CF15 human nasal epithelial cells with IL‑13, after which MTT was used to assess the cytotoxicity of PSO.

Precise isolation and analysis of circulating tumor cells (CTCs) from blood samples offer considerable potential for cancer research and personalized treatment. Currently, available CTC isolation approaches remain challenging in the quest for simple strategies to achieve cell isolation with both high separation efficiency and high purity, which limits the use of captured CTCs for downstream analyses. Here, we present a filter deterministic lateral displacement concept to achieve one-step and label-free CTC isolation with high throughput.

There is a large amount of evidence that selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs) are related to cardiovascular toxicity, which has aroused concern regarding their safety. However, few studies have evaluated the effects of SSRIs on cardiac injury biomarkers, such as creatine kinase (CK) and creatine kinase isoenzyme (CK-MB). The purpose of our study was to determine whether SSRIs elevated CK and CK-MB levels of prior medicated depressive patients (PMDP) compared to first-episode drug-naïve depressive patients (FDDPs).

Contemporary asymmetric catalysis faces huge challenges when prochiral substrates bear electronically and sterically unbiased substituents and when substrates show low reactivities. One of the inherent limitations of chiral catalysts and ligands is their incapability in recognizing prochiral substrates bearing similar groups. This has rendered many enantiopure substances bearing several similar substituents inaccessible.

Traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) has been used successfully to treat rheumatoid arthritis (RA). Qingre Huoxue treatment (Qingre Huoxue decoction (QRHXD)/Qingre Huoxue external preparation (QRHXEP)) is a therapeutic scheme of TCM for RA. To date, there have been few studies comparing the efficacy and safety of QRHXD and conventional synthetic disease-modifying antirheumatic drugs (csDMARDs) for the treatment of active RA.

Chronic hypoxia promoted pulmonary arterial smooth muscle cells proliferation through upregulated calcium-sensing receptorcanonical transient receptor potential 1/6 pathway.

August 2021

State Key Laboratory of Respiratory Disease, Guangzhou Institute of Respiratory Health, The Division of Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine, National Clinical Research Center for Respiratory Disease, National Center for Respiratory Medicine, The First Affiliated Hospital of Guangzhou Medical University, Guangzhou, China.

Article Synopsis
  • The study investigates how chronic hypoxia (CH) influences the proliferation of pulmonary arterial smooth muscle cells (PASMCs) through the calcium-sensing receptor (CaSR) and transient receptor potential (TRPC) proteins.
  • The researchers found that CH increases cell number, viability, and DNA synthesis in PASMCs by upregulating CaSR, TRPC1, and TRPC6, with various modulators affecting these processes.
  • The results suggest that the CaSR-TRPC1/6 pathway plays a crucial role in PASMC proliferation under hypoxic conditions, highlighting its potential as a target for therapeutic intervention.

To investigate the role of platelet-rich plasma (PRP) from different sources in alleviating oxidative stress and ameliorating melanogenesis in UVB-irradiated PIG1 cells, PIG1 cells were irradiated with 80 mJ/cm2 UVB prior to 1% PRP application and the following experiments were taken: the viability of UVB-irradiated PIG1 cells, cellular malondialdehyde (MDA) and reactive oxygen species (ROS) content, and activities of antioxidant enzymes. Western blotting was utilized to detect the expression level of proteins associated with melanin synthesis, apoptosis, and DNA lesions. We found that PRP intervention promoted cell proliferation, reduced MDA and ROS content, increased the activities of series of antioxidant enzymes, and alleviated DNA damages in UVB-damaged PIG1 cells.

April 2021

Department of Breast Cancer, Cancer Center, Guangdong Provincial People's Hospital, Guangdong Academy of Medical Sciences, No.123 Huifu West, Yuexiu District, Guangzhou, Guangdong 510080, China.

Background: Although dual blockade HER2-based neoadjuvant chemotherapy is associated with excellent outcomes for human epidermal growth factor receptor 2 (HER2)-positive breast cancer, pertuzumab is not available to all patients due to cost. The optimal neoadjuvant chemotherapy for HER2-positive breast cancer in the presence of a single HER2 blockade is unknown. This study aimed to compare the efficacy and safety of epirubicin/cyclophosphamide followed by docetaxel/trastuzumab (EC-TH) with docetaxel/carboplatin/trastuzumab (TCH) neoadjuvant setting for HER2-positive breast cancer under the single HER2 blockade.
