Purpose: To investigate the correlation between morphological lesions and functional indicators in eyes with neovascular age-related macular degeneration (nAMD).
Methods: This was a prospective observational study of treatment-naïve nAMD eyes. Various morphological lesions and impaired retinal structures were manually measured at baseline and month-3 in three-dimensional optical coherence tomography (OCT) and optical coherence tomography angiography (OCTA) images, including the volumes (mm) of macular neovascularization (MNV), avascular subretinal hyperreflective material (avascular SHRM), subretinal fluid (SRF), intraretinal fluid (IRF), serous pigment epithelial detachment (sPED) and the impaired area (mm) of ellipsoid zone (EZ), external limiting membrane (ELM) and outer nuclear layer (ONL).

Importance: Capsular tension rings (CTRs) can support weak zonules and inhibit capsular shrinkage, thus potentially reducing intraocular lens (IOL) decentration and tilt. However, it has been debated whether CTRs can reduce IOL decentration and tilt in highly myopic eyes and whether CTR implantation is necessary for all highly myopic eyes.
Objective: To evaluate the influence of CTR implantation on IOL decentration and tilt in highly myopic eyes.

Fundus fluorescein angiography (FFA) examinations are widely used in the evaluation of fundus disease conditions to facilitate further treatment suggestions. Here, we present a protocol for performing deep learning-based FFA image analytics with classification and segmentation tasks. We describe steps for data preparation, model implementation, statistical analysis, and heatmap visualization.

Background: Asia accounts for more than half of the world's population and carries a substantial proportion of the global burden of blindness and vision impairment. Characterising this burden, as well as its causes and determinants, could help with devising targeted interventions for reducing the occurrence of blindness and visual impairment.
Methods: Using the Global Burden of Disease Study 2019 database, we retrieved data on the number of disability-adjusted life years (DALYs); crude and age-standardised rates; and the prevalence (with 95% uncertainty intervals (95%UIs)) of blindness and vision loss due to six causes (age-related macular degeneration, cataracts, glaucoma, near-vision impairment, refractive error, and other vision loss) for Asian countries for the period between 1990 and 2019.

Background: In adult patients with high myopia (HM), progressive axial elongation poses a significant risk for the development of subsequent ocular complications that may lead to visual impairment. Effective strategies to reduce or prevent further axial elongation in highly myopic adult patients have not been available so far. Recent studies suggested that medically lowering intraocular pressure (IOP) may reduce axial elongation.

Purpose: Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19), caused by severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2), is a life-threatening disease with largely unknown intraocular pathogenesis. Herein, we determined the presence of SARS-CoV-2-specific ribonucleic acid (RNA) and virus-associated antibodies in the vitreous humor of people who have recently recovered from SARS-CoV-2 infection.
Design: This cross-sectional study included 33 patients (33 eyes) who have recently recovered from SARS-CoV-2 infection.

Methods: The association between HGS and diabetic complications was evaluated using cox models among 84 453 patients with pre-diabetes and diabetes from the UK Biobank with a 12-year follow-up. The association between HGS and longitudinal microcirculatory damage rates was assessed among 819 patients with diabetes from the Guangzhou Diabetic Eye Study (GDES) with a 3-year follow-up.

Epidemiological evidence showed that serum high perfluorooctane sulfonate (PFOS) levels are associated with multiple eye related diseases, but the potential underlying molecular mechanisms remain poorly understood. Zebrafish and photoreceptor cell (661w) models were used to investigate the molecular mechanism of PFOS induced eye development defects. Our results showed a novel molecular mechanism of PFOS-induced inflammation response-mediated photoreceptor cell death associated with eye development defects.

Introduction: Weill-Marchesani syndrome (WMS) is a hereditary connective tissue disorder with substantial heterogeneity in clinical features and genetic etiology, so it is essential to define the full mutation spectrum for earlier diagnosis. In this study, we report Weill-Marchesani-like syndrome (WMS-like) change to autosomal dominance inheritance caused by novel haplotypic mutations in latent transforming growth factor beta-binding protein 2 (LTBP2).
Methods: Twenty-five members from a 4-generation Chinese family were recruited from Guangzhou, of whom nine were diagnosed with WMS-like disease, nine were healthy, and seven were of "uncertain" clinical status because of their young age.
