Background: Mitogen/extracellular signal-regulated kinase kinase-5 (MEK5) has been confirmed to play a pivotal role in tumor carcinogenesis and progression. However, few studies have investigated the role of MEK5 in colorectal cancer (CRC).

Methods: MEK5 expression was determined by immunohistochemistry (IHC) in tissue microarrays (TMAs) containing 2 groups of tissues, and western blotting was used to confirm MEK5 expression in 8 cases of primary CRC tissues and paired normal mucosa.

Objective: To evaluate the effect of electro-acupuncture on Zusanli (ST 36), Guanyuan (RN 4) in patients with sepsis, and explore its mechanism in term of immune regulation.

Methods: In this prospective randomized controlled trial, 60 patients with sepsis were randomly assigned to the control group and the intervention group equally by block randomization. Patients in the control group received routine treatment and those in the intervention group received electro-acupuncture at bilateral Zusanli and Guanyuan in addition to routine treatment, respectively.

Article Synopsis
  • This study investigates the role of the MEK5 gene promoter variants in the susceptibility to sporadic colorectal cancer (CRC), focusing on two specific polymorphisms (rs7172582C>T and rs3743354T>C).
  • The research involved 737 CRC patients and 703 healthy controls, revealing that the rs3743354 CC genotype is linked to a significantly lower risk of CRC compared to the TT genotype.
  • Environmental factors like smoking and drinking were found to interact with the rs3743354 variant, further lowering CRC risk, while no significant association was seen with the rs7172582C>T polymorphism.

Objective: To observe IgG and IgM antibodies in patients with severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS) and to explore their significance.

Methods: IgG and IgM antibodies were detected in SARS Patients in the first, recovery and follow-up stages, the front healthy doctors and nurses and healthy volunteers with indirect enzyme-linked immunoadsorbent assay.

Results: The positive ratio of IgG was higher than that of IgM in SARS patients during the first stage.
