Intimal sarcoma of the pulmonary artery is rare, but false diagnosis of this sarcoma as pulmonary embolism is not infrequent. The investigation of the mechanism of insomnia could provide the basis for improved understanding and treatment of insomnia. The aim of this study is to investigate the abnormal functional connectivity throughout the entire brain of insomnia patients, and analyze the global distribution of these abnormalities. Whole brains of 50 patients with insomnia and 40 healthy controls were divided into 116 regions and abnormal connectivities were identified by comparing the Pearson's correlation coefficients of each pair using general linear model analyses with covariates of age, sex, and duration of education.

Cortical regulation of striatal projection neurons and interneurons in a Parkinson's disease rat model.

Striatal neurons can be either projection neurons or interneurons, with each type exhibiting distinct susceptibility to various types of brain damage. In this study, 6-hydroxydopamine was injected into the right medial forebrain bundle to induce dopamine depletion, and/or ibotenic acid was injected into the M1 cortex to induce motor cortex lesions. Immunohistochemistry and western blot assay showed that dopaminergic depletion results in significant loss of striatal projection neurons marked by dopamine- and cyclic adenosine monophosphate-regulated phosphoprotein, molecular weight 32 kDa, calbindin, and μ-opioid receptor, while cortical lesions reversed these pathological changes.

Renal transplant recipients infected with hepatitis C virus (HCV) have a high risk of progressing to cirrhosis, end-stage liver diseases, and hepatocellular carcinoma. It is also considered as an independent risk for graft loss and is correlated with proteinuria, transplant glomerulopathy, HCV-associated glomerulonephritis, and chronic rejection. Previous therapy involving interferon alfa and ribavirin led to treatment complications, including toxicity, anemia, sepsis, and drug-drug interactions with calcineurin inhibitors, as well as reduced tolerability and efficacy.
