Nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC) is one of the most malignant tumors in southern China and Asia, and lymph node metastasis is an important cause for treatment failure. Lymphangiogenesis is a crucial step in lymphatic metastasis of NPC, while little is known about lymphangiogenesis in NPC. Similar to angiogenesis, lymphangitic neovascularization is a process of balance between pro-lymphangiogenesis and anti-lymphangiogenesis factors, but there are few studies on endogenous lymphangiogenesis inhibitors.

Resveratrol (RES) is a natural phenol which possesses multiple pharmacological actions. The present study aimed to determine whether RES protects against myocardial ischemic injury in association with the inhibition of NF‑κB‑dependent inflammation and the enhancement of antioxidant defenses in mice following acute myocardial infarction (AMI). Male C57/BL mice were randomly assigned to 3 groups as follows: The sham‑operated (sham) group, AMI + vehicle group and AMI + RES group.

Currently, there are no relevant findings on the diagnostic and prognostic roles of adenomatous polyposis coli 2 (APC2) in colorectal cancer (CRC). This study investigated the clinical value of APC2 dysregulation in the prognosis of CRC. Immunohistochemical scores obtained from tissue microarrays were used to quantify the expression of APC2 protein in 201 CRC tissues and 139 adjacent normal tissues.

In China, forensic age estimation in the living has become increasingly important in these few years. Due to increasing juvenile crimes, the age of 16 years has become the legal age threshold for determining whether the juvenile criminal law or adult criminal law applies to the citizen. This study aimed to assess new cut-off values of the third molar maturity index (I) and second molar maturity index (I) at the legal age threshold of 16 years in Southern Chinese population and then to compare the applicability of the cut-off values of I and I we set for discriminating whether a subject is ≥ 16 years.

Background: Resting heart rate (RHR) is considered as a strong predictor of total mortality and hospitalization due to heart failure in hypertension patients. Bisoprolol fumarate, a second-generation beta-adrenoreceptor blockers (β-blocker) is commonly prescribed drug to manage hypertension. The present study was to retrospectively evaluate changes in the average RHR and its association with cardiovascular outcomes in bisoprolol-treated coronary artery disease (CAD) patients from the CAD treated with bisoprolol (BISO-CAD) study who had comorbid hypertension.

Only one of the three known sets of twins with AE has genetic information. This case reports the discovery of new mutation sites in rare twin patients and draws some interesting conclusions by analysing the relationship between genetic information and clinical manifestations.

To developing a multiple cancer types targeting drug delivery carrier system, a 28 amino acids from the VAR2CSA was synthesized as the placental CSA-binding peptide (plCSA-BP). Its specific binding ability to cancer cells was tested on cancer tissue array, and the results showed that plCSA-BP could bind to multiple cancer types. Then, the plCSA-BP was used as a guiding peptide to coat nanoparticles synthesized from N-2-HACC (CSA/HACC-NPs) which were loaded with prodigiosin (CSA/HACC-PNPs) or indocyanine green (CSA/HACC-INPs).

The aryl hydrocarbon receptor (AhR) is a ligand‑activated transcription factor originally isolated and characterized as the dioxin or xenobiotic receptor. With the discovery of endogenous ligands and studies of AhR knockout mice, AhR has been found to serve an important role in several biological processes, including immune responses and developmental and pathological regulation. In particular, it has been considered as a new major player in cardiovascular diseases.

Impaired wound healing is one of the major complications of diabetes, involving prolonged inflammation, delayed re-epithelialization, and consistent oxidative stress. The detailed mechanism remains unclear, and there is currently no effective treatment for diabetic wound healing. In this study, we aim to investigate the potential role and effect of nuclear factor erythroid-2-related factor-2 (Nrf2) activation on diabetic wound healing.

The current methods for quantifying genome-wide 5-methylcytosine (5mC) oxides are still scarce, mostly restricted with two limitations: assay sensitivity is seriously compromised with cost, assay time and sample input; epigenetic information is irreproducible during polymerase chain reaction (PCR) amplification without bisulfite pretreatment. Here, we propose a novel Polymerization Retardation Isothermal Amplification (PRIA) strategy to directly amplify the minute differences between epigenetic bases and others by arranging DNA polymerase to repetitively pass large electron-withdrawing groups tagged 5mC-oxides. We demonstrate that low abundant 5-hydroxymethylcytosine (5hmC), 5-formylcytosine (5fC) and 5-carboxycytosine (5caC) in genomic DNA can be accurately quantified within 10 h with 100 ng sample input on a laboratory real-time quantitative PCR instrument, and even multiple samples can be analyzed simultaneously in microplates.

Inflammation is closely related to the pathogenesis and prognosis of cardiovascular disease (CVD). Interleukin-37 (IL-37), an anti-inflammatory IL-1 family cytokine, shifts cytokine expression from pro- to anti-inflammation via regulation of macrophage polarization and lipid metabolism. In macrophages, IL-37 functions through both intracellular and extracellular pathways to regulate the activity of NF-kB and PTEN as well as the expression of cytokines, including IL-1β, IL-6, and IL-10.

Autophagy (here refers to macroautophagy) is a catabolic pathway by which large protein aggregates and damaged organelles are first sequestered into a double-membraned structure called autophago-some and then delivered to lysosome for destruction. Recently, tremen-dous progress has been made to elucidate the molecular mechanism and functions of this essential cellular metabolic process. In addition to being either a rubbish clearing system or a cellular surviving program in response to different stresses, autophagy plays important roles in a large number of pathophysiological conditions, such as cancer, diabetes, and especially neurodegenerative disorders.

Avian Influenza A (H5N6) Virus causes severe influenza disease in humans and is manifested by acute respiratory distress syndrome, multi-organ failure, and high mortality rates. T cells recognize antigens specifically through a membrane protein T cell receptor (TCR). To ward off a wide variety of pathogens, the human adaptive immune system harbors a vast array of TCRs, which are collectively referred to as the TCR repertoire.

The aim of the present study was to examine whether erastin influences radioresistance in non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) cells and produce a preliminary investigation into its mechanism of action. The radioresistant subtype of NSCLC cells, A549-R and H460-R, were induced by high-dose hypofractionated irradiation. Erastin was used to treat the radioresistant cells and radiosensitivity was examined by colony formation assays.
