Article Synopsis
  • * The study used a 15-minute tonic muscle pain procedure with healthy participants, examining real-time pain ratings and fMRI data to understand how these effects operate in a different context compared to previous studies focusing on short-term pain.
  • * Findings indicated that placebo analgesia was more effective and longer-lasting than nocebo hyperalgesia, with distinct neural mechanisms involved, particularly highlighting the roles of brain regions like the putamen and caudate during these responses.

Background: Risk assessment before treatment is important for gastrointestinal stromal tumors (GISTs), which will determine the priority of surgery or preoperative treatment. The prognostic nutritional index (PNI) is an integrated parameter consisting of serum albumin and lymphocyte count. Immunonutritional status defined in this manner is well-known to be closely linked to the prognosis of several other cancers.

The acute-on-chronic liver failure (ACLF) development is highly dynamic. Currently, no satisfactory algorithm identifies patients with HBV at risk of this complication. The aim of the study was to characterize ACLF development in hospitalized HBV-related patients without previous decompensation and to test the performance of traditional prognostic models in ruling out ACLF development within 28 days on admission we conducted a cohort study.

Background: The status of circulating tumor cells (CTCs) is related to the recurrence of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), which is also one of the reasons for the poor prognosis of HCC. The purpose of this study was to explore whether CTCs can help guide the choice of treatment methods for HCC.

Methods: This study is a multicenter retrospective study, including 602 patients with HCC.

Allergen protease-activated stress granule assembly and gasdermin D fragmentation control interleukin-33 secretion.

Nat Immunol

July 2022

State Key Laboratory of Cell Biology, Shanghai Institute of Biochemistry and Cell Biology, Center for Excellence in Molecular Cell Science, Chinese Academy of Sciences, University of Chinese Academy of Sciences, Shanghai, China.

Interleukin-33 (IL-33), an epithelial cell-derived cytokine that responds rapidly to environmental insult, has a critical role in initiating airway inflammatory diseases. However, the molecular mechanism underlying IL-33 secretion following allergen exposure is not clear. Here, we found that two cell events were fundamental for IL-33 secretion after exposure to allergens.

Objective: To run a systematic review and meta-analysis of related studies on body mass index (BMI) and the risk of death among pulmonary hypertension (PH) patients, as well as, to shed light on the shape and strength of the dose-response association.

Methods: Studies published up to Jun 2021 in scientific databases such as Scopus, and PubMed as well as Google Scholar were searched. Cohort studies that reported risk estimates for at least two categories of BMI or per certain increase in BMI in relation to mortality in PH patients were included.

Background And Aim: To investigate the effect of preoperative circulation tumor cells (CTCs) on postoperative recurrence and overall survival prognosis of pancreatic head cancer after pancreaticoduodenectomy (PD).

Methods: From March 2014 to January 2018, 73 patients with pancreatic head cancer underwent radical resection (R0) in Zhongshan People's Hospital. CTCs in peripheral blood of patients with pancreatic head cancer were detected by "Cyttel" method before PD.

Background And Aim: The effect of perioperative blood transfusion (PBT) on the prognosis of patients with ruptured hepatocellular carcinoma (rHCC) with different Barcelona Clinic Liver Cancer (BCLC) stages is not clear. We identified the independent predictors of PBT for postoperative rHCC and investigated the effects of PBT on the prognosis of patients with rHCC at different BCLC stages.

Methods: A total of 340 patients who underwent curative hepatectomy for rHCC between January 2010 and March 2018 were abstracted from the databases of two centers.

Background: We aim at describing the incidence, potential predisposing factors, and progression of major radiotherapy-related neurologic complications (RRNC) in nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC)-endemic regions, especially southern China.

Methods: We performed a multicenter longitudinal retrospective study with clinical follow-ups in 22,302 patients with post-radiotherapy NPC between January 2003 and June 2017 covering three major residential areas. Epidemiology, potential predisposing/protective factors, clinicopathologic progression, and survival conditions of each RRNC were separately recorded and analyzed on the basis of their related clinical, radiologic, and laboratory parameters.

Purpose: There is no research evidence demonstrate which is the better partner strategy, endocrine therapy or chemotherapy, to combine with anti-HER2 therapy as the first-line management of hormone receptor (HR)-positive (HR+) and HER2-positive (HER2+) metastatic breast cancer (MBC). We wished to ascertain if trastuzumab plus endocrine therapy is noninferior to trastuzumab plus chemotherapy.

Patients And Methods: We conducted an open-label, noninferiority, phase III, randomized, controlled trial (NCT01950182) at nine hospitals in China.

Preoperative prediction of tumor recurrence after radiofrequency ablation (RFA) in patients with early hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is helpful for clinical decision-making before treatment. A total of 162 patients with HCC of 3 cm or less who were completely ablated by percutaneous RFA were divided into a derivation cohort (n = 108) and a validation cohort (n = 54). Based on X-Tiles software, Kaplan-Meier curve analysis and COX multivariate analysis to obtain valuable predictive indicators, a clinical scoring system for predicting tumor recurrence was established.
